Channel Estimation Method Using Power Control Schemes in Wireless Systems

  • Green communication is a new paradigm of designing the communication system which considers not only the processing performance but also the energy efficiency. Power control management is one of the approaches in green communication to reduce the power consumption in distributed communication system. In this paper, we propose improved power control schemes for mobile satellite systems with ancillary terrestrial components (ATCs). In order to increase system capacity and reduce the transmitting power of the user's equipment, we propose an efficient channel estimation method consisting of a modified open-loop power control (OLPC) and closed-loop power control (CLPC). The OLPC works well if the forward and reverse links are perfectly correlated. The CLPC is sensitive to round-trip delay and, therefore, it is not effective in a mobile satellite system. In order to solve the above problem, we added monitoring equipment to both the OLPC and CLPC to use information about transmitting power that has not yet been received by the receiver over the satellite/ATC channel. Moreover, we adapted an efficient pilot diversity of both OLPC and CLPC in order to get a better signal to interference plus noise ratio estimation of the received signal.

LEAST-SQUARE SWITCHING PROCESS FOR ACCURATE AND EFFICIENT GRADIENT ESTIMATION ON UNSTRUCTURED GRID

  • An accurate and efficient gradient estimation method on unstructured grid is presented by proposing a switching process between two Least-Square methods. Diverse test cases show that the gradient estimation by Least-Square methods exhibit better characteristics compared to Green-Gauss approach. Based on the investigation, switching between the two Least-Square methods, whose merit complements each other, is pursued. The condition number of the Least-Square matrix is adopted as the switching criterion, because it shows clear correlation with the gradient error, and it can be easily calculated from the geometric information of the grid. To illustrate switching process on general grid, condition number is analyzed using stencil vectors and trigonometric relations. Then, the threshold of switching criterion is established. Finally, the capability of Switching Weighted Least-Square method is demonstrated through various two- and three-dimensional applications.

An Efficient Data Traffic Estimation Technique in Defense Information Network through Network Simulation (네트워크 시뮬레이션을 통한 군 통신 정보유통량의 효율적 예측 기법)

  • The change of information and communications technology affects into many parts of military battlefield as the future warfare will be information-oriented warfare, relying on information technology. The more IT-based military systems are deployed the more multimedia data traffic increase. To accommodate such user's requirements the bandwidth capacity of military communications network must be upgraded. The cost of upgrading network capacity is increasing as well. But there has no systematic estimation approach to analyze the amount of data traffic in the military network. In this paper we suggest an efficient data traffic estimation technique using network simulation with the respect of Input and output, scenario, toolset and technique, and experimental environments.

Efficient Motion Compensated Extrapolation Technique Using Forward and Backward Motion Estimation (순방향과 역방향 움직임 추정을 이용한 효율적인 움직임 보상 외삽 기법)

  • Motion compensated extrapolation (MCE) techniques show inferior performance compared to motion compensated interpolation techniques, since only past frames are used in MCE. MCE techniques are used for the reconstruction of corrupted frames, the up-conversion of frame rates and the generation of side information in the distributed video coding system. In this paper, the performance of various MCE techniques are evaluated and an efficient MCE technique using the forward and backward motion estimation is proposed. In the proposed technique, the present frame is extrapolated by averaging two frames which are generated by forward and backward motion estimation respectively. It is shown that the proposed method produces better PSNR results and less blocking phenomena than conventional methods.

Resource Allocation for Maximizing Energy Efficiency in Energy Harvesting Networks with Channel Estimation Error (채널 추정 오차가 존재하는 에너지 하베스팅 네트워크에서 에너지 효율성을 최대화 하는 자원할당 방안)

  • Recently, energy harvesting technology is considered as a tool to improve the lifetime of sensor networks by mitigating the battery capacity limitation problem. However, the previous work on energy harvesting has failed to provide practical information since it has assumed an ideal channel knowledge model with perfect channel state information at transmitter (CSIT). This paper proposes an energy efficient resource allocation scheme that takes account of the channel estimation process and the corresponding estimation error. Based on the optimization tools, we provide information on efficient scheduling and power allocation as the functions of channel estimation accuracy, harvested energy, and data rate. The simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional energy harvesting networks without considering channel estimation error in terms of energy efficiency. Furthermore, with taking account of channel estimation error, the results provides a new way for allocating resources and scheduling devices.

  • The two-stage minimum risk point estimation of mean, the probability of success in a sequence of Bernoulli trials, is considered for the case where loss is taken to be symmetrized relative squared error of estimation, plus a fixed cost per observation. First order asymptotic expansions are obtained for large sample properties of two-stage procedure. Monte Carlo simulation is carried out to obtain the expected sample size that minimizes the risk and to examine its finite sample behavior.

  • The correspondence problem for stereo image matching plays an important role in expanding view points as multi view video applications become more popular. The conventional disparity estimation algorithms have limitation to find exact disparities because they consider not image features but similiar intensity points. Thus we propose an efficient disparity estimation algorithm considering features of stereo image pairs. As simulation results, our proposed method confirms better intermediate views than the existing block-matching methods.

  • In this paper, an efficient block matching algorithm which is based on the Block Sum Pyramid Algorithm (BSPA) is presented. The cost of BSPA[1] was reduced in the proposed algorithm by using l2 norm and partial distortion elimination technique. Motion estimation accuracy of the proposed algorithm is equal to that of BSPA. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was verified by experimental results.

  • In the microcell- or picocell-based system the frequent movements of the mobile bring about excessive traffics into the networks. A mobile location estimation mechanism can facilitate both efficient resource allocation and better QoS provisioning through handoff optimization. Existing location estimation schemes consider only LOS model and have poor performance in presence of multi- path and shadowing.   • A novel motion vector re-estimation technique for transcoding into lower spatial resolution is proposed. This technique is based on the fact that the block matching error is proportional to the complexity of the reference block with Taylor series expansion. It is shown that the motion vectors re-estimated by the proposed method are closer to optimal ones and offer better quality than those of previous techniques.
