  • Wireless mesh network technology with transmission speeds similar to wired and wireless technology means to build, compared with wired networks, building a more efficient network to provide convenience and flexibility. The wireless mesh network router nodes in the energy impact of the mobility is less constrained and has fewer features entail. However, the characteristics of various kinds due to network configuration settings and the choice of multiple paths that can occur when the system overhead and there are many details that must be considered. Therefore, according to the characteristics of these network routing technology that is reflected in the design and optimization of the network is worth noting. In this paper, a multi-path setting can be raised in order to respond effectively to the problem of the router node data loss and bandwidth according to traffic conditions and links to elements of the hop count evaluation by using a genetic algorithm as a workaround for dynamic routing the routing metric for wireless mesh network scheme is proposed.

Efficient Anaerobic Digestion for Highly Concentrated Particulate Organic Wastewater (고농도 입자성 유기폐수의 고효율 혐기성 소화 공정)

  • It has been mentioned that CSTR (Completely Stirred Tank Reactor) and UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) processes, the existing anaerobic processes, have problems in the treatment of highly concentrated particulate organic wastewater (HCPOW). Therefore, this paper discusses the treatment possibility of distillery wastewater which is a typical HCPOW using ADEPT (anaerobic Digestion Elutriated Phased Treatment) process. In the comparison of CSTR and ADEPT, ADEPT produced much higher gas than that of CSTR removing more organic matters and suspended solids in ADEPT process, ADEPT had no effect on the decrease in pH by volatile fatty acids and showed steady pH in spite of relatively short HRT. In the results of removal rate according to recycle ratios between 6Qin and 2Qin in ADEPT, 6Qin showed high removal rate during the operation time. Therefore it appears that ADEPT had an applicability for the treatment of distillery wastewater. ADEPT could be a economical process, due to the short HRT, the energy recovery by the methane production, and the utilization for carbon source of produced organic acid from the ADEPT-acid reactor.

Efficient Receiver Design Based On Block-Coded Correlator Scheme for UWB-IR (무선광대역 시스템을 위한 블록 부호화 상관기 기반의 효율적인 수신기 설계 기법)

  • Noncoherent receivers are favored for block-code-modulated ultrawideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) systems because of their low implementation complexity compared with coherent rake receivers. However, existing noncoherent schemes, such as transmitted reference (TR) systems and averaged differential receivers (ADR), suffer from performance degradation and energy efficiency loss. Codeword matching and signal aggregation (CMSA) is a low complexity noncoherent receiver for UWB-IR. As the frame/symbol duration is shortened to boost data rate, interframe interference (IFI) or intersymbol interference (ISI) occurs and degrades the detection performance of CMSA. In this paper, block coded correlator which consists of the delay components and the reference signal is proposed to improve the performance of the receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed system leads to the better performance compared to the conventional CMSA receiver.

Tillage Characteristics of the Single-Edged Rotary Blade (단면형 로터리경운날의 경운 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to developed high-efficient rotary tillage system for a power tiller by improving the rotary blade. A kind of the rotary blade with single-edged blade(DS) was developed that requires lower tillage energy than conventional double-edged blade(CD) on the design theory for Japanese rotary blade. In order to find out the tillage characteristics between the single-edged blade and the double-edged blade for power tiller, experiments were performed in soil-bins which were filled up clay loam, loam and sandy loam, and then analyzed the effects of the factors such as soil texture, travelling speed, rotational speed, and tillage depth to each of the blades. And field tests were carried out to compare tillage performances of the two blades using rotary cultivator driven by conventional power tiller. The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1) On the soil bin experiment, it was found that tillage torque of the single-edged blade was less than the ones of the double-edged blade. The decreasing ratios of maximum tillage torque of the single-edged blade to the ones of the double-edged blade were 1 to 8% at clay loam, 5 to 20% at loam and 9 to 31% at sandy loam, respectively. 2) By the field tests, that the tillage performances with the single-edged blade compared with the double-edged blade was improved about 19% in field capacity, about 34% in fuel consumption, and 12.5% in soil breaking ratio. Furthermore, the fluctuation of engine speed, the variation of exhaust gas temperature, and the amount of soil clogging on the blade and straw wound on the rotary shaft showed lower values with the developed blade than the conventional blade. So, it may be concluded that tillage performance by the developed single-edged blade was improved compared with the one by the conventional double-edged blade.

  • By the development of the network technology, the types and amount of information that users keep in contact with have been dramatically increased. As a result, users are consuming a lot of time and energy to find needed information. On this, this article presents a new methodology that can efficiently manage their information within small cost by using content-based recommendation method and keyword affinity method. By using keyword affinity method, this methodology solves the content-based recommendation method's weak point that the performance is not good within the environment that the preferences of users are rapidly changing and new contents are created continuously and the accuracy level is low until the information of preferences are sufficiently gathered. This article carried out research on the personal e-mail environment where new information is frequently created and disappeared. Also this article assists folder recommendation for the efficient management of e-mail and verified the methodology mentioned above by an experiment to compare the performance of existing folder recommendation methods with the performance of this new method.

  • In this paper, Non-contact power supply(NCPS) with the long primary cable longer than 20m and the large air-gap between the primary and secondary of Non-Contacting Transformer(NCT) is presented. The NCT has a large leakage inductance bigger than its magnetizing inductance because it has low coupling, and it is not efficient for NCPS to transfer the primary energy to the secondary one. In order to improve this problem, the voltage-gain characteristics of the series resonant converter, the parallel resonant converter, and the series-parallel resonant converter are analyzed respectively. In addition, the experimental results of 10kW prototype the series-parallel resonant converter is presented.

  • Hydrogen-natural gas blends(HCNG) engine is optimizing technology of performance and emission characteristics with use of hydrogen's fast flame speed and wide flammability limit. As lean-burn limit is extended, the improvement in thermal efficiency and harmful emissions can be achieved. However, the extension of lean-burn limit under a wide open throttle operation point could be realized with the increase in boosting capacity in a lean-burn engine with turbo-charging system. In the present study, the power output characteristics of HCNG engine with turbo-charger change is assessed and feasibility of the increase in boosting capacity is evaluated. The turbo-charger design with high efficiency at higher flow rate rather than higher boosting pressure makes efficient operation possible at relatively rich mixture condition.

  • From the time the product is manufactured until it is carried and ultimately used, the product is subjected to some form of handling and transportations. During this process, the product can be subjected to many potential hazards. One of them is the damage caused by shocks. In order to design a product-package system to protect the product, the peak acceleration or G force to the product that causes damage needs to be determined. When a corrugated fiberboard box loaded with products is dropped onto the ground, part of the energy acquired due to the action of the gravitational acceleration during the free fall is dissipated in the product and the package in various ways. The shock absorbing characteristics of the packaging cushion materials are presented as a family of cushion curves in which curves showing peak accelerations during impacts for a range of static loads are shown for several drop heights. The new method for determining the shock absorbing characteristics of cushioning materials for protective packaging has been described and demonstrated. It has been shown that cushion curves can be produced by combining the static compression and impact characteristics of the material. The dynamic factor was determined by the iterative least mean squares (ILMS) optimization technique in which the discrepancies between peak acceleration data predicted from the theoretical model and obtained from the impact tests are minimized. The approach enabled an efficient determination of cushion curves from a small number of experimental impact data.

  • According to lessons learned from an accident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, it is advisable to make a comprehensive radiation survey by the accident phase for efficient response and risk management using diverse survey platforms. This study focuses on the technical status of environmental radiation monitoring using a UAV (Unmanned aerial vehicle) and the performance test of developed aerial survey system based on two detectors with an high energy resolution through the field application to contaminated areas. Finally, the performance of aerial survey at diverse flight heights was successfully achieved by introducing the correction factor to represent the results into ambient dose rate at 1m above the ground.

  • Lifeline Damages induced by earthquake loading brings not only a structure damage but the communication problems by the interruption of various energy utilities such as electric power, gas, and water resources. Earthquake loss estimation systems in USA and Japan, called as HAZUS (Hazard in US) and HERAS (Hazards Estimation and Restoration Aid System), respectively, have been established for the purpose of efficient responding to the earthquake hazard. Sufficient damage records are required to establish these systems. However, there are insufficient data set of damage records obtained from previous earthquakes in Korea. In this study, according to the construction specifications of the pipelines in both Korea and USA, the behavior of both ductile and brittle pipelines embedded in dense sand overlying various soils, such as clay, sand, and gravel were examined with respect to the pipeline characteristics under various earthquake loadings. The applicability of pipeline damage prediction used in HAZUS program to Korea has been investigated.
