This paper deals with the simulation of solid particle coating technology via supersonic nozzle in vacuum environment to devote as an aerosol-deposition device. In order to improve efficiencies of nozzle and coating process, effects of shockwave, nozzle geometry, and substrate location were studied computationally under a fixed chamber pressure of 0.01316 bar which is nearly vacuous. Shockwave is the important factor affect to entire flow because shockwave in the jet flow dissipates the kinetic energy of the flow in the supersonic condition. Results show that various nozzle geometries have significant effect on the supersonic flow and we know that the supersonic nozzle should be optimized to minimize the loss of the flow. Another parameter, the distance between substrate and nozzle tip, shows little effect in this study.
The effects of substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, reaction temperature, and water content were investigated in intramolecular esterification. This study used cyclohexane as organic solvent, power lipase as enzyme, and benzyl alcohol and octanoic acid as substrate. The initial reaction rate was found to be proportional to enzyme concentration; followed Michaelis-Menten equation for octanoic acid; and was inhibited by benzyl alcohol . The observed initial reaction rate first increased, then decreased with increasing reaction temperature, giving rise to the maximum rate at 20$\circ$. The drop in the reaction rate at higher temperature was to partition equilibrium change of substrate between organic solvent and hydration layer of enzyme molecule in addition to the deactivation by enzyme denaturation. Water layer surrounding enzyme molecule seemed to activate in organic solvent and the realistic reaction was done in the water layer. In the enzymatic reaction in organic solvent, the initial reaction rate was influenced by partition quilibrium of substrate, so the optimum condition of substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, reaction temperature, and water content would give a good design tool.

We introduced mechanical stimuli and micropatterned substrate with micro fibers to investigate the effects of those on neurite outgrowth along with nerve growth factor (NGF) in vitro. Microfiber substrates were fabricated using an electrospinning process. And PC-12 cells cultured on substrates were simulated with nerver growth factor and laminar flow shear stress in a fluid flow system The results suggest that microfiber substrates and fluid-induced shear stress are promising for simulating neuronal regeneration in a desired direction.

Hafnium nitride (HfN) thin films were deposited onto a silicon substrate by inductive coupled nitrogen plasma-assisted radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The films were prepared without intentional substrate heating and a substrate negative bias voltage ($-V_b$) was varied from -50 to -150 V to accelerate the effects of nitrogen ions ($N^+$) on the substrate. X-ray diffractometer patterns showed that the structure of the films was strongly affected by the negative substrate bias voltage, and thin film crystallization in the HfN (100) plane was observed under deposition conditions of -100 $V_b$ (bias voltage). Atomic force microscopy results showed that surface roughness also varied significantly with substrate bias voltage. Films deposited under conditions of -150 $V_b$ (bias voltage) exhibited higher hardness than other films.

The substrate temperature is an important parameter in thin film deposition process. In this paper the effects of the substrate temperature on the properties of CuIn0.75Ga0.25Se2(CIGS) thin films are reported. Structure, surface morphology and optical properties of CIGS thin films deposited at various substrate temperatures have been investigated using a number of analysis techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis shows that CIGS films exhibit a strong <112> preferred orientation. As expected, at higher substrate temperatures the films displayed a higher degree of crystallinity. The <112> peak was also enhanced and other CIGS peaks appeared simultaneously These results were supported by experimental work using Raman spectroscopy. The Raman spectra of the as-grown CIGS thin films show only the Al mode peak. The intensity of this peak was enhanced at higher deposition temperatures. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results revealed very small grains in films fabricated at 48$0^{\circ}C$ substrate temperature. When the substrate temperature was increased the average grain size also increased together with a reduction in the number and size of the voids. The deposition temperature also had a significant influence on the transmission spectra.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) arc grown on Ni catalysts employing an inductively-coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) method. The structural and field-emissive properties of the CNTs grown are characterized in terms of the substrate-bias applied. Characterization using the various techniques, such as field-omission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Auger spectroscopy (AES), and Raman spectroscopy, shows that the structural properties of the CNTs, including their physical dimensions and crystal qualities, as well as the nature of vertical growth, are strongly dependent upon the application of substrate bias during CNT growth. It is for the first time observed that the provailing growth mechanism of CNTs, which is either due to tip-driven growth or based-on-catalyst growth, may be influenced by substrate biasing. It is also seen that negatively substrate-biasing would promote the vertical-alignment of the CNTs grown, compared to positively substrate-biasing. However, the CNTs grown under the positively-biased condition display a higher electron-emission capability than those grown under the negatively-biased condition or without any bias applied.
Ni-base self-fluxing alloy powder particles were flame sprayed onto the SS400 mild steel substrate surface. The effects of both substrate temperature and spraying distance on the splat behavior of sprayed particles were examined. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) In the splat behavior of Ni-base self-fulxing alloy particles sprayed onto the SS400 mild steel substrate, splashing was observed under the room temperature condition. On the contrary, it showed circular plate pattern in the substrate temperature range over 373K. 2) It was cleared that there was close relationship between mechanical properties of coating layer and splat behavior of sprayed particles. 3) From the experimental results, optimum spraying conditions showed excellent mechanical properties in the case of Ni-base self fluxing alloy sprayed onto the SS400 mild substrate were 473K of substrate temperature and 250mm of spraying distance.
The benthic macroinvertebrates index (BMI) was developed based on the 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), which is the amount of biodegradable organic matter in stream water. However, benthic macroinvertebrates mainly live in the streambed substrate and are affected by the interaction of water quality and substrate. This study was conducted to examine the interactive relationship between water quality items (BOD5, total phosphorus (TP), total suspended solids (TSS)) and substrate with BMI by performing statistical analyses (four-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis). The data used in the analyses were collected from 19,915 sampling units at 1,937 sites in South Korea from 2010 to 2020. The interaction effect between BOD5 and substrate types was confirmed through a four-way analysis of variance. Partial correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis estimated the degree of influence on the change in BMI value in the order of mean grain size of the substrate as (𝜱m) > BOD5 > TP > TSS. BMI can be regarded as an index that evaluates the comprehensive effects of water quality and streambed status, although it is an index that was developed based on the amount of biodegradable organic matter in a water column.
Despite the success of $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ (CIGS) based PV technology now emerging in several industrial initiatives, concerns about the cost of In and Ga are often expressed. It is believed that the cost of those elements will eventually limit the cost reduction of this technology. one candidate to replace CIGS is $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ (CZTSe), fabricated by co-evaporation technique. Effects of substrate temperature of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ absorber layer on the performance of thin films solar cells were investigated. As substrate temperature increased, the grain size of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ films increased presumably. At a optimal condition of substrate temperature is $320^{\circ}C$, the solar cell shows a conversion efficiency of 1.79% with $V_{OC}$ of 0.213V, JSC of $16.91mA/cm^2$ and FF of 49.7%.

Soft magnetic properties and microstructural evolution of FeTaNC films were investigated, and compared with FeTaN and FeTaC films. Effects of substrate species (glass vs. $CaTiO_3$) on the magnetic properties were also investigated. Co-addition of N and C significantly enhance the grain refinments and magnetism, compared with N or C addition only. Good soft magnetic characteristics of coercivity of 0.17 Oe, permeability of 4000 (5MHz), and saturation flux density of 17 kG can be obtained in the FeTaNC in the relatively wide process windows. While these values appears to be similar to those of FeTaN on glass substrate, most distinctive difference between FeTaNC and FeTaN(or C) is in the effects of substrate. Whereas FeTaNC films show good magnetic characteristics for both glass and $CaTiO_3$ substrates, FeTaN(or C) films show significant degradation on the $CaTiO_3$ substrate.
