  • This study was carried out to investigate the steaming and wet grinding conditions to save effective compositions and to utilize whole roots of ginseng. The sweetness at the 3 different steaming conditions of non steaming group (A), $95^{\circ}C$/3 hr group (B) and $121^{\circ}C$/15 min group (C) resulted in 7.7, 10.7 and $11.2^{\circ}Brix$, and the browning intensity of 0.37, 1.97 and 1.50, respectively. The contents of crude saponin at the different steam heat treatments were 7.19 (A), 6.99 (B) and 8.83 mg/g (C). When sensory evaluation was conducted, the ginseng products processed at C condition showed the highest scores in the evaluation categories of bitter taste reduction, sweetness and overall acceptance. These results suggest that sensory characteristics of ginseng could be enhanced by the steam heat treatments. When the wet grinding with water addition volume to the steamed ginseng treated at $121^{\circ}C$ for 15 min was also investigated, the smallest particle size resulted from the water addition volume of 300%. The grinding efficiency of ginseng was found to be high at 30 min of grinding time and 3 times of grinding frequency with the mean particle size of $67.66\;{\mu}m$. The content of effective component did not show significant differences by grinding time and grinding frequency. Based on the results, the steam heat treatments ($121^{\circ}C$/15 min) and wet grinding procedures were found to be effective in utilizing whole roots and saving the effective compositions of ginseng.

  • Because cable-supported bridges have long spans and large members, their movements and geometrical changes by temperatures tend to be bigger than those of small or medium-sized bridges. Therefore, it is important for maintenance engineers to monitor and assess the effect of temperature on the cable-supported bridges. To evaluate how much the superstructure expands or contracts when subjected to changes in temperature is the first step for the maintenance. Thermal movements of a cable-stayed bridge in service are evaluated by using long-term temperatures and displacements data. Displacements data are obtained from extensometers and newly installed GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receivers on the bridge. Based on the statistical data such as air temperatures, each sensor's temperatures, average temperatures and effective temperatures, correlation analysis between temperatures and displacements has been performed. Average temperatures or effective temperatures are most suitable for the evaluation of thermal movements. From linear regression analysis between effective temperatures and displacements, the variation rate's of displacement to temperature have been calculated. From additional regression analysis between expansion length's and variation rate's of displacement to temperature, the thermal expansion coefficient and neutral point have been estimated. Comparing these parameters with theoretical and analytical results, a practical procedure for evaluating the real thermal behaviors of the cable-supported bridges is proposed.

  • This study proposed an estimation method of allowable wave height for loading and unloading of the ship and evaluation of effective working days considering moored ship motion that is affected by sip sizes, mooring conditions, wave periods and directions. The method was examined validity by comparison with wave field data at pier $8^{th}$ in Pohang New Harbor. The wave field data obtained with wave height of 0.10~0.75 m and wave period of 7~13 s in ship sizes of 800~35,000 ton when a downtimes have occurred. On the other hand, the results of allowable wave height for loading and unloading of the ship in this method have obtained with wave heights of 0.19~0.50 m and wave periods of 8~12 s for ship sizes of 5,000, 10,000 and 30,000 ton. Thus this method well reproduced the field data respond to various a ship sizes and wave periods. And the results of this in Korea are didn't respond to various the ship sizes and wave periods, and we h method tended to decrease in 16~62 percent when have considered long wave, and it is decreased in 0~46 percent when didn't consider long wave than design standards in case of the ship sizes of 5,000~30,000 ton, wave period of 12 s and wave angle of $75^{\circ}$. The allowable wave heights for loading and unloading of the ship proposed by design standards in Korea have found that overestimated on smaller than 10,000 ton. On the other hand, the rate of effective working days considering ship motion at pier $8^{th}$ in Pohang New Harbor reduced in 6.5 percent when compare with the results without considering ship motion.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the cost-effectiveness of Eastern, Western, and collaborative treatments and suggest a cost-effective approach for patients with frozen shoulder pain. Methods : Using the data of fifty-two patients, treatment effectiveness was measured by CSA, SPABI, and ROM scales and changes from the baseline score were evaluated. Data source for cost estimation was based on the national health insurance (NHI) payment system. Because the price in NHI was differentiated by health care institutions, five collaborative types were considered in assessing costs. Cost-effective ratios were computed for economic evaluation. Results : Compared with Eastern treatment, collaborative and Western treatments showed better effects on CSA scale after 4 weeks' treatment. The collaborative approach was also the most effective treatment on SPADI and ROM scales. The direct cost per patient receiving Eastern treatment was less than other treatments. In general, collaborative treatment dominated Eastern and Western treatments in cost-effectiveness an analysis. However, the cost-effectiveness ratio of Eastern treatment resulted in \9,000 compared to \29,000 of collaborative treatment on SPADI. Four different indicators of ROM scales resulted in different approaches as the cost-effective treatment. Conclusions : Considering cost-effectiveness ratios, collaborative treatment was the best treatment on CSh and SPADI scales after 4 weeks' treatment. As for ROM scales, the recommended alternatives were Eastern treatment for patients with abduction and adduction disabilities, Western treatment for those with flexion disability, and collaborative approach fir those with extension disabiliry.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of assertiveness training and value clarification training on nurse's conflict and conflict management mode. Fifty seven registered nurses participated in the study ; they were employed by three general hospital located in Daegu, Korea. The study employs two treatment groups. The assertiveness training group consisted of subjects who participated in 90-120 minutes sessions of assertiveness training nine times over five weeks. The other treatment group, was adiministed nine, 90-120 minutes sessions of value clarification during the same period. For the control group, nursing subjects were appointed the training after five weeks. Pre-test evaluation were administered to all subjects in three groups prior to one week of the treatment. Role conflict Inventory-general(RCI-G) and Communication Conflict Inventory-general (CCI-G) measure nurse's conflict management mode. Post-test evaluation were administered to all subjects in three groups two weeks after the last session by Role Conflict Inventory-Specific(RCI-S), Communication Conflict Inventory-Specific (CCI-S), Management Model-Specific(CMMI-S). The analysis of variance(ANOVA) and covariance(ANCOVA) on gain scores were running the SPSS program. In order to test statistical differences among mean scores of the scales obtained after treatment, multiple comparisons were carried out by Turkey method. Conclusions obtained from the results are as follows. 1. The assertiveness training and the value clarification training were effective in decreasing the nurse's role conflict. The value clarification was more effective than the assertiveness training in decreasing the nurse's role conflict. 2. Both assertiveness training and value clarification training were effective in decreasing nurse's communication conflict. There was, however, no differences between assertiveness training and value clarification training in decreasing the nurse's communication conflict. 3. The assertiveness training and the value clarification training were quite effective in compromizing and collaborating conflict management mode, to reducing the withdrawl and accomodate, force and accomodate conflict management mode to conflict. There was no difference in the effectiveness of assertiveness training and value clarification. In assessing the effects of the treatments, this study employed different measurements. It is unclear whether the measurement affected the test results. It is worth conducting a further test using the same measurements. The results of future studies can be compared with those of this study. The homogeneity of the control group and treatment group is questionable. Futher studies may employ homogeneous sample group to evaluate whether the sample characteristics bias the test results. Assertiveness training or value clarification training for nurses can be utilized in nursing intervention.

  • Various approaches for sound source segregation have been proposed. Among these approaches, frequency domain binaural model(FDBM) has the advantages of low computational load and effective howling cancellation. A binaural hearing assistance system based on FDBM has been proposed. This system can enhance desired signal based on the directivity information. Although FDBM has been evaluated in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and coherence function, the evaluation results do not always agree with the human impressions. These evaluation methods provide physical measures, and do not take account of perceptual aspect of human being. Considering a binaural hearing assistance system as a one of major applications, the quality of segregated sound should keep level enough. In the paper, signal segregation performance by means of FDBM is evaluated by three objective methods, i.e., SNR, coherence and Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality(PESQ), to discuss the characteristic of FDBM on the sound source segregation performance. The simulation's evaluation results show that FDBM improves the quality of the left and right channel signals to an equivalent level. And the results suggest the possibility that PESQ provides a more useful measure than SNR and coherence in terms of the segregation performance of FDBM. The evaluation results by PESQ show the effects from segregation parameters and indicate appropriate parameters under the conditions. • The purpose of this study is to propose the evaluation criteria of asphalt pavement condition in narrow regional road considering the traffic environment in order to reduce road budget of local governments. In general, narrow regional roads are considered relatively less important because they have low travel speed and low traffic volume of heavy-vehicle. Generally, automatic surveying equipment is used for investigations of pavement condition, but the operating costs are not efficient for the narrow regional roads because the cost is too high. This study presents the pavement condition evaluation index suitable for narrow regional roads. In this study, the pavement condition evaluation index is presented considering the traffic environment of narrow regional roads. The pavement condition were classified into three classes based on the crack measured by visual inspection, and the validity of the pavement condition evaluation index presented through the expert's questionnaire survey was examined. Pavement condition for the narrow regional roads was classified into three grades based on the index values calculated by visual inspection. Expert's surveys were conducted to evaluate the validity of the proposed pavement condition evaluation. The proposed evaluation index shows a high correlation with questionnaire survey result ($R^2=0.88$). The proposed evaluation index which is obtained through visual crack inspection under limited conditions can be applied to narrow regional roads. In addition, it is expected that it will be effective not only for road management but also for road management budget by more economical evaluation method of pavement condition.
