  • Objectives: This study aimed to optimize the thread depth and pitch of a recently designed dental implant to provide uniform stress distribution by means of a response surface optimization method available in finite element (FE) software. The sensitivity of simulation to different mechanical parameters was also evaluated. Materials and Methods: A three-dimensional model of a tapered dental implant with micro-threads in the upper area and V-shaped threads in the rest of the body was modeled and analyzed using finite element analysis (FEA). An axial load of 100 N was applied to the top of the implants. The model was optimized for thread depth and pitch to determine the optimal stress distribution. In this analysis, micro-threads had 0.25 to 0.3 mm depth and 0.27 to 0.33 mm pitch, and V-shaped threads had 0.405 to 0.495 mm depth and 0.66 to 0.8 mm pitch. Results: The optimized depth and pitch were 0.307 and 0.286 mm for micro-threads and 0.405 and 0.808 mm for V-shaped threads, respectively. In this design, the most effective parameters on stress distribution were the depth and pitch of the micro-threads based on sensitivity analysis results. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the optimal implant design has micro-threads with 0.307 and 0.286 mm depth and pitch, respectively, in the upper area and V-shaped threads with 0.405 and 0.808 mm depth and pitch in the rest of the body. These results indicate that micro-thread parameters have a greater effect on stress and strain values.

  • Global wanning induced by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide is a serious problem for mankind. Carbon dioxide ocean disposal is one of the promising options to reduce carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere because the ocean has vast capacity for carbon dioxide sequestration. However, the dissolution rate of liquid carbon dioxide in seawater must be known in advance in order to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide sequestration in the ocean. Therefore, the solubility, the surface concentration, the droplet size and other factors of liquid carbon dioxide at various depths are calculated. The results show that liquid carbon dioxide changes to carbon dioxide bubble around 500 m in depth, and the droplet is completely dissolved below 500 m in depth if carbon dioxide droplet is released both at 1000 m in depth with the initial droplet diameter of 0.011 m or less and at 1500 m in depth with the diameter of 0.015 m or less. In addition, the hydrate film acts as a resistant layer for the dissolution of liquid carbon dioxide. The surface concentration of carbon dioxide droplet with the hydrate film is about 50% at 1500 m in depth and about 60% at 1000 m in depth of the carbon dioxide solubility. Also, the ambient carbon dioxide concentration in the plume is an another crucial parameter for complete dissolution at the intermediate ocean depth, and the injection of liquid carbon dioxide from a moving ship is more effective than that from a fixed pipeline.

  • A study was investigated to find out the mechanical optimum conditions of power tiller-plow system on both paddy field and upland. Mathematical model was developed for the theoretical analysis of this system and the experimentation on the field was carried out with two different sizes of 5PS and 8PS power tiller equipped with rubber tire. 1) The relationship between the plowing depth and draft resistance of the power tiller-plow system was a quadratic function. 2) The minimum point of the specific draft resistance of the 5 PS plow was found at the smaller plowing depth than that of 8 PS plow, therefore we can find that the curved surface of 5PS plow bottom should be improved for the effective plowing operation. 3) As the improvement of the mechanical balance by the desirable change of the curved surface of plow bottom, the relative position of hitch point and dimension of plow beam would be realized, the 5 PS power tiller could be used to plow deeply (about 16-17cm). 4) The virtual acting point of the total draft resistance on the plow bottom approached to the land side as the plowing depth increased. 5) The resultant of vertical reaction force $R_2$ on the landside was increased with the plowing depth, while the vertical reaction force $R_1$ on the wheel was decreased as the slope angle of the body of power tiller increased. 6) For the effective plowing operations ; a) The slope angle of the body should be as small as possible. b) The diameter of the wheel should be as small possible. c) The horizontal and vertical distances $l_2, h_1$ between the wheel axis and plow bottom should be as large as possible. 7) To use the 5PS power tiller as the major unit of agricultural machinery, the curved surface of the 5 PS plower bottom and the mechanism of attachment between the power tiller and the plow should be changed as the indications of this study, and in addition to these, the new operation method of the field work should be developed.

  • This study was created to resolve the problems embedded in the formal measuring experiments to determine the earth's size in the current curriculum, to develop an updated measuring experiment to determine the earth's size and to establish its effect. For this study, pre-service elementary teachers, who had attempted the experiment of measuring the size of the earth when they were in middle school, performed the experiments in the existing national curriculum, and their responses, collected through in-depth interviews, were examined. To begin with, the pre-service elementary teachers conducted the experiment of measuring the earth size and they recorded the problems while performing it. At the end, an in-depth interview was administered. Based on the problems, an updated measuring experiment to determine the earth's size was suggested to be applied to the same contents and be analyzed through the in-depth interviews. Common themes which were mutually categorized and analyzed by the two researchers were obtained based on the records produced while conducting the experiment and the in-depth interview data. The teachers mentioned that the experiments for measuring the size of the earth in the current curriculum gave rise to difficulties in measuring precisely the angles between the string and the post. Also, there has been a scientific contradiction that solar altitudes were increased in a high latitude region, instead of decreased. For this reason, an alternative method has been developed to measure the earth's size using the distance and the solar altitude difference of two places. The teachers all agreed that by using the updated measuring experiment, they can acquire more precise measurements and it is easier, faster and consequently more effective than the existing methods. Through the results of this study, I suggest that the newly developed experiment by the researchers can overhaul the problems of the current experiments and it can be an effective alternative to the current experiment.

  • Regeneration of Periodontium with PRP does not only improve regeneration rate and density of bone but have a possibility to estimate faster healing process for soft tissue. And also, autogenous bone and xenogenic bone graft are effective on regeneration of periodontium. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of autogenous bone and xenogenic bone $(BBP^{(R)})$ grafts with the PRP technique on regeneration of periodontium. 52 Generally healthy Pt. who had pocket depth 5mm at any of 6 surfaces of the teeth were in the study at Dept. of Perio. in Dankook Dental Hospital. Open Flap was treated for 18 infra-bony pockets as control group, autogenous bone with PRP was inserted for 25 infrabony pockets as first test group, and $(BBP^{(R)})$ with PRP was inserted for 22 infrabony pockets as 2nd test group. Then evaluation was made after 3 and 6 months 1. There were significant differences between average probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level of 3, 6 months and minimal and maximal attachment level after 6 months each other. 2. There were significant differences in average probing pocket depth of control group and 2nd experimental group between 1 and 6 months. For clinical attachment level and minimal and maximal proving attachment level, there was a significant difference after 6 month of surgery. 3. There was no significant difference between two test groups for average probing depth, clinical attachment level, and minimal and maximal probing attachment level. As the result, PRP with bone graft could be very effective for regeneration of periodontium and there was no difference between xenogenic bone and autogenous bone.

  • The influence of plasma carburizing process on the surface hardness of SCM415 low-alloy steel (0.15% C) was investigated under the various process conditions of gas composition. gas pressure, plasma current density. temperature and time. The effective case depth was found to depend on the amount of methan gas containing carbon. thus the deepest case depth and the uniform hardeness were obtained with the 100% methan gas. The case depth increased with the plasma current density. The effective plasma carburizing temperature of SCM415 steel was found to be higher than 85$0^{\circ}C$, and the case depth was proportional to the square root of carburizing time under the same current density. The bending fatigue strength of the plasma carburized specimen is' higher than those of as- received specimen or reheat-quenched specimen.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop environmentally friendly constructed wetland system in order to improve the environment. This system was constructed with two constructed wetlands andone pond. The size of the first and second wetland was 2.5m in length, 2.5m in width and 0.7m in depth for the first wetland and 0.6m in depth for the second wetland. Those were filled with pebbles with about 16~32mm in diameter from bottom to 20cm depth and onto the pebbles with about 0.5 mm in diameter sand in depth 40cm. The first constructed Wetland was planted with pragmites communis. The second was planted with Iris pseudoacorus and Acorus calamus var. aneustatus.A vertical flow system was used in the first constructed wetland and a horizontal flow system in the second. The water of outflow from the second wetland flowed into the pond. This system was installed in Yangpyeong, Kyunggi Province. The Quality of inflow and outflow were analyzed at the first time from May 20 to May 30, 2002 and at second time from June 10 to July 18, 2002. At the second period wetland was implanted with microbes in order to improve the efficiency of constructed wetlands. Following standard methods for wastewater, BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P were analyzed. This system was effective in reducing COD, BOD, SS, T-N and T-P level. The result shows that wastewater was purified through constructed wetland system with plants and highly purified with microbes especially in T-P. The Average total phosphorous concentration of influent and effluent in constructed wetland with microbes was 2.8mg/${\ell}$ L and 0.21mg/${\ell}$ respectively. This system can be used in rural community because this is not only effective on purification of sewage but also is harmonized with the surrounding nature.

  • Post-installed anchor is a structural material that connects structural and non-structural members to existing concrete members. However, there are cases where rebar interception and construction error occur at the site. In that case, measures are needed to prevent performance degradation of the rear-installation anchors. In this study, in order to evaluate the performance of torsional control expandable post-installed anchors for compressive strength and effective depth of the reference concrete was tested. The results of the most commonly used tests of M10 and M20 showed that had variable coefficients within 15%, satisfying the reliability presented in KCI(2017). It was also confirmed that the depth of the buried and the strength of concrete affect the strength of the pavement. Based on the results of the existing similar studies and the results of this study, the design equation of the post-installed anchor was proposed and the results were compared with the existing design.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear strength of reinforced concrete beam according to beam section size and shear reinforcement ratio. A total of nine specimens were tested and designed concrete compressive strength is 24 MPa. The main variables are shear reinforcement ratio and beam section size fixed with shear span to depth ratio (a/d = 2.5), the tensile reinforcement ratio (${\rho}=0.013$) and width to depth ratio (h/b = 1.5). The test specimens were divided into three series of S1 ($225{\times}338mm$), S2 ($270{\times}405mm$) and S3 ($315{\times}473mm$), respectively. The experimental results show that all specimens represent diagonal tensile failure. For $S^*-1$ specimens (d/s=0), the shear strength decreased by 33% and 46% with increasing the beam effective depth, 26% and 33% for $S^*-2$ specimens (d/s=1.5) and 16% and 20% for $S^*-3$ specimens (d/s=2.0) respectively. As the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the decrease range in shear strength decreases. In other words, this means that as the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the size effect of concrete decreases. In the S1 series, the shear strength increased by 39% and 41% as the shear reinforcement ratio increased, 54% and 76% in the S2 series and 66% and 100% in the S3 series, respectively. As the effective depth of beam increases, the increase range of shear strength increases. This means that the effect of shear reinforcement increases as the beam effective depth increases. As a result of comparing experimental values with theoretical values by standard equation and proposed equation, the ratio by Zsutty and Bazant's equation is 1.30 ~ 1.36 and the ratio by KBC1 and KBC2 is 1.55~.163, respectively. Therefore, Zsutty and Bazant's proposed equation is more likely to reflect the experimental data. The current standard for shear reinforcement ratio (i.e., $S_{max}=d/2$) is expected to be somewhat relaxed because the ratio of experimental values to theoretical values was found to be 1.01 ~ 1.44 for most specimens.
