The effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of cast Ti-6%Al-4%V alloy was investigated. Heat treatment of cast Ti-6Al-4V alloy was conducted by solution treatment at $950^{\circ}C$ for 30 min; this was followed by water quenching and then aging at $550^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 1440 min. The highest hardness of the heat-treated specimens was obtained by solution treatment and subsequent aging for 5 min due to precipitates of fine ${\alpha}$ that formed from retained ${\beta}$ phase. The tensile strength of this alloy increased without dramatic decrease of the ductility due to microstructural refinement resulting from the decomposition of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ martensite into fine ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phases, and also due to the fine ${\alpha}$ phase formed from the retained ${\beta}$ phase by aging treatment for 5 min. In addition, this strengthening might be caused by the transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect, which is a strain-induced martensite transformation from the retained ${\beta}$ phase during deformation, and which occurs even after aging treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 5 min.
Heat treatment conditions and the formation of microstructures were studied for improving the transformation-induced plasticity(TRIP) effect of retained austenite and mechanical properties of Fe-0.2%C-1.5%Si-1.5%Mn sheet steel. An excellent combination of elongation about 30% and high strength over 760MPa was achieved by processing of intercritical annealing and isothermal holding Intercritical annealing the sheet steel produced fine particles($1{\sim}2{\mu}m$) of retained austenite which were stabilized due to C enrichment by subsequent holding in bainite transformation range. Heat treatment conditions were depended on the shape and distribution of second phases as well as the volume fraction and stability of retained austenrte. In this work, the heat treatment condition of optimal strength-elongation balance was obtained by holding the steel at $400^{\circ}C$ for 200sec, after intercritical annealing at $790^{\circ}C$ for 300sec.
Effect of heat treatment conditions on formability and property of warm hydroformed parts for Al 6061 extruded tubes was investigated in this study. For the investigation, as-extruded, fully annealed and T6-treated Al 6061 seamless tubes were prepared. To evaluate the warm hydroformability, uni-axial tensile test and free bulge test were performed at various pre- and post-heat treatment conditions. And the tensile test specimens were obtained from hexagonal prototype hydroformed parts at $250^{\circ}C$. As a result, hydroformability of fully annealed tube is 25% higher than that of extruded tube. The tensile strength and strain of hydroformed part reach to 330 MPa and 12%, respectively, when the part was T6 treated after warm hydroforming. However, the hydroformability of T6 pre-treated tube is relatively low due to the decreased elongation, 8%.
Even though 304 low-carbon (304L) stainless steel was developed to enhance the resistance to intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, it is occasionally subject to degradation in harsh environments. The degree of sensitization (DOS) of 304L stainless steel was studied as a function of sensitization using a double-loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DL-EPR) method. Sensitizing heat treatment was performed in an Ar atmosphere at 500℃, 600℃, and 700℃, with heat treatment times varying from 0 to 96 h. DOS was measured by the ratio of the peak current density value of the forward scan to that of the reverse scan. After the EPR experiment, the specimen surface was observed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The DOS of the specimens heat-treated at 600℃ increased with heat treatment times up to 48 h and then decreased due to a self healing effect. The DOS was higher in specimens heat-treated at 600℃ than those at 500℃ or 700℃. Corrosion of the sensitized specimens occurred mainly at the δ-γ phase boundary. The corrosion morphology at the δ-γ phase boundary changed with sensitizing heat-treatment conditions due to differences in chromium activity in γ austenite and δ ferrite.
The purpose of this study was to analyze microstructural changes and evaluate the mechanical properties of TWIP steel subjected to variations in heat treatment, in order to identify optimal process conditions for enhancing the performance of TWIP steel. For this purpose, a homogenization heat treatment was conducted at 1,200 ℃ for 2 h, followed by hot rolling at temperature exceeding 1,100 ℃ and cold rolling. Annealing heat treatment is achieved using a muffle furnace in the range of 600 ℃ to 1,000 ℃. The microstructure characterization was performed with an optical microscope and X-ray diffraction. Mechanical properties are evaluated using micro Vickers hardness, tensile test, and ECO index (UTS × Elongation). The specimens annealed at 900 ℃ and 1,000 ℃ experienced a significant decrease in hardness and strength due to decarburization. Consequently, the decarburization phenomenon is closely related to the heat treatment process and mechanical properties of TWIP steel, and the effect of the microstructure change during annealing heat treatment.
Due to high corrosion resistance, Zinc has been widely used in the automobile, shipping or construction industries as a galvanizing material. Zinc is popular as a coating element, but its low mechanical strength impede the expansion of applications as a load-bearing structure. The mechanical strength of Zinc can be increased through zinc based alloy process, but the ductility is significantly reduced. In this study, the mechanical strength and ductility of Zinc-Magnesium alloys with respect to heat treatment hold time was investigated. In order to enhance the mechanical strength of Zinc, a Zinc-Magnesium alloy was fabricated by a melting process. The heat treatment process was performed to improve the ductility of Zinc-Magnesium alloy. The microstructure of the heat-treated alloy specimen was analyzed using SEM. The hardness and compressive strength of the specimen were measured by a micro-hardness tester and a nano-indenter, respectively.
The effect of vacuum heat treatment in the thermal sprayed ceramics coating on a capstan by either high velocity oxygen fuel(HVOF) or plasma thermal spray process was investigated. The coating materials applied on the capstan were tungsten and chrome carbides. In order to characterize the interface between coating layer and bare materials, hardness, adhesion strength, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and microstructural analysis are conducted. The adhesion strength of the carbide coated materials by HVOF process is over 500MPa compared to those of plasma coating process is 230MPa. In case of the carbide coated materials by HVOF process, the adhesion strength is increased to 15MPa and the porosity is reduced under 5% by vacuum heat treatment for 5 hrs at $1000^{\circ}C$. The XRD results reveal that the increasement is believed due to the phase stabilization of metastable $Cr_3C_2$ phase to stable $Cr_{23}C_6$ phase.
The effects of heat treatment on the fatigue life and welding residual stress of welded plates were investigated in this study. The plates were welded by flux cored arc welding process, and post weld heat treated at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The residual stresses of welded plates before and after post weld heat treatment were measured by hole drilling method. To measure the fatigue life of welded plates, low cycle fatigue tests under strain control and high cycle fatigue tests under load control were performed respectively, by using cylindrical specimens containing weld metal and heat affected zone. The obtained result shows that the post weld heat treatment reduces the residual stress, and resultantly changes the fatigue life of welded plate. Goodman diagrammatic analysis has also been performed to study the effect of post weld heat treatment on the high cycle fatigue life.

In this study, as an effort to improve the brittlement of coating layer, aluminum bronze coatings formed on steel substrates by arc jet spray process were subjected to post heat treatment. After each treatment, mechanical properties such as hardness, and UTS, and microstructural characterization of the specimens were investigated. The results showed that the hardness in the coatings slightly decreased with increasing heat treatment tine and temperature. The UTS of as-sprayed coatings was 4.31kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ and slightly increased to 5.51kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ after heat treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 120min. On the other hand, the interdiffusion of copper and aluminum particles after heat treatment lead to decrease of the porosity density and increase the bond strength.

Soybean is one of the most common food materials for making traditional Korean foods such as soybean paste, soy source and soy snack, and their manufacturing processes include heat treatment of soybean. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of heat treatment on the physicochemical properties of soybean. All samples were heat treated under commercial steamed, puffed or air-fried conditions, and then the protein molecular weight distribution, thermal properties, fluorescence intensity, protein solubility, and water and oil holding ability of the heat treated soybeans were examined. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis indicated that heat treatment caused fragmentation of polypeptide chain in soybean, showing the band of low molecular ranging from 17 to 40 kDa. The differential scanning calorimetric analysis showed the decrease of enthalpy values (${\Delta}H$) by heat treatment. Fluorescence spectroscopy indicated that the heat treatment caused lipid oxidation as proved by increasing emission intensity. The protein solubility at pH 3-6, and water holding capacity of heat treated soybeans were the higher than no treatment. These results suggest that the heat treatment resulted in decreased enthalpy values, and increased protein degradation, lipid oxidation and water affinity of soybean. Moreover, the effect of heat treatment on physiochemical properties of soybeans was more significant under air-fried condition.
