  • Complementarity, complementary principle and complementary approach have been often used in school mathematics but its meaning has not been obvious. Thus this paper tries to make explicit the meaning by looking around complementary characteristic of mathematical knowledge. First of all, we examines the general meaning of complementarity and Investigate complementary characteristics of mathematical concepts through incommensurability and zeno's paradox. From this, complementary approach to school mathematics is studied. To understand and uncover complementary characteristics of mathematical concepts make it possible for student to have an insight. It is the most important thing that students can have an image of mathematics as a living system rather than as a mechanical application of rules and fragmentary in formations.

  • The education will boil from daily life and as doing desirably, Nammyung emphasized. This fact all people importantly from education, to think. But recognizes this problem the center of life and study of oneself and the case which indicates writes. Nammyung led and recognized the importance of daily life from education. The life of the human being becomes more distant from daily life and when being absorbed in being external makes a valuable territory lose from life. When with the same interest of education becomes more distant from daily life of life, the education makes the meaning lose. When meaning the education is embodied from if human life, must have an educational interest in daily life. And works from the daily life which is repeated, meeting, association, dialogue and relationship, introspection etc. must become the interest territory of education, the education must devise is value from daily life the possibility of experiencing in order to be. Because the work which is ordinary, meeting from ordinary, with human relation and association dialogs, reflective etc. to compose a life. When the education excepts a daily life consequently, will not be able to give the value which is important in life. When saying conclusively, the education must escape from the fact that considers seriously a knowledge acquisition and a compensation. And the education must do to make a value the people experience rather from daily life. The resultant education will be able to accomplish the essential function of the education which loses, daily life will be valuable and there is a possibility which to make feel will do. With being like that, education could be reconciled with the people.

  • This study aims to establish an analogy of presenting facade of elementary school in order to express a formal manifest in accordance with children's aesthetic sense and also to provide a better visual environment for children. The results of the study are as follows: 1) Formal expression of elementary school should be carried out primarily on harmony and unity, and based upon these, ideas of the architect should be applied. 2) Formal meaning of volumes and spacious feelings that are analogized in facades and masses of elementary schools should consider factors like the number of classrooms, sitescale. Volumetric sense should be composed as to induct coziness, conciseness, corresponding with conscious characteristics classified by grade. 3) Characteristics of presented meaning should be based upon humanistic intimacy, at the same time visually expressing characteristics of sculptural value and rationality.

  • In this paper, we deal with the teaching of parameter in the school mathematics. The roles of letters become different according to the letters-used context. That is, the meaning of letters may change in the course of being used. But specifying the roles of letters without understanding the distinction between the roles is not enough for students to learn the meaning of variables, specifically that of parameters. Therefore, the parameter-learning should focus on the dynamic change of roles. That implies flexible thinking and changing of perspectives.

  • In this study, we tried to make clear the meaning of implication, and inquired into Piaget's theory on the development of children's logical thinking focussing on implication. Because the progressive development of the notion of implication is very important to learn the meaning of conditional proposition, we searched a sequence for the learning implication on basis of Piaget's theory.

  • In today's information-rich society, the need for information literacy has urgency. Three tasks of information processing are filtering, meaning-matching, meaning-construction that could be strengthened through inquiry-based learning. The cycles of reflection and practice develop the habit of mind, or conscious information processing that allow the learners to acquire higher level of information literacy. An on-line inquiry-based learning environment designed for information literacy may help learners to perform their lifelong learning better with the ability to appreciate, locate, evaluate, and use information effectively.

  • Digital technology has advanced rapidly and it is anticipated that multimodal ways of meaning-making will become increasingly important. Consequently, teaching multimodal literacies is becoming a major issue in education. This study focuses on the use of picture diaries as a means of teaching multimodal literacies. Picture diaries are one of the basic and unique multimodal texts used in lower elementary level classes in Korea. A further advantage is that it is a promising text model which can be taught in unplugged ways. In order to explore the educational implications of using such picture diaries, this study sought to analyze the ways in which twenty four $1_{st}$ graders in an elementary school constructed meaning with written language and pictures in composing picture diaries. 251 picture diaries composed during several months of their $1_{st}$ grade period were analyzed based on the constant comparative method. The results indicated that the students utilized both written language and pictures in diverse and creative ways to provide their audience with more comprehensive meaning. These results indicate that teachers need to consider their students as active multimodal meaning-makers and provide their students with more opportunities to practice multimodal meaning-making and share their experiences.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of suicidal risk, meaning in life, and life respect in various ages of patients and identify factors influencing their life respect. Method: The participants were 229 patients in a public hospital who completed questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Fisher's exact test, ANOVA with Duncan post hoc test, and multiple regression. Results: There was a negative correlation between the meaning of life and life respect in the old age group (r=-.23, p=.02) and all subjects (r=-.14, p=.01) after controlling for age. Factors significantly influencing life respect were gender (${\beta}$=0.11, p=.050) and educational status (${\beta}$=-0.17, p=.022), and the multiple regression model explained 16.7% of the variance in all subjects (p<.001). In the early adulthood group, factors significantly influencing the life respect were gender (${\beta}$=0.18, p<.001) and suicidal thoughts (${\beta}$=0.21, p=.028), and the multiple regression model explained 6.8% of variance in all subjects (p=.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that suicidal prevention and educational programs for increasing an appreciation of life should consider subject's characteristics, such as gender and educational status.

  • These days, constructivism has become a central theory in mathematics education. A essential concept in constructivism is 'construction' and the meaning of construction of mathematical knowledge is a core issue in mathematics educational field. In the basis of Dewey's epistemology, this article is trying to explicate the meaning of construction of mathematical knowledge. Dewey, Kant and Piaget coincide in construction of knowledge from the viewpoint of the interaction between mind and environment. However, unlike Dewey's concept, Kant and Piaget are still in the line of traditional realistic epistemology. Dewey's concept of construction logically implies teaching-learn learning principles. This can be named as a principle of genetic construction and a principle of progressive consciousness.
