  • N-screen is a promising technology to improve support for multimedia multicasting, content sharing, content mobility, media scalability, and seamless mobility. In this paper, the WiMedia distributed-MAC (D-MAC) protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-screen wireless service. Furthermore, to provide a multi-hop, one source multi-use N-screen service through point to point streaming in a seamless D-MAC protocol, a dynamic multi-frame transmission technology is proposed. In this technology, a dynamic time slot allocation scheme and a multi-hop resource reservation scheme are combined. In the proposed dynamic time slot allocation scheme, two thresholds, a hard threshold and a soft threshold, are included to satisfy the power consumption and delay requirements. A multi-frame DRP reservation scheme is proposed to minimize end-to-end delay during the multi-hop transmissions between N-screen devices. The proposed dynamic multi-frame transmission scheme enhances N-screen performance in terms of the multi-hop link establishment success rate and link establishment time compared to the conventional WiMedia D-MAC system.

  • The availability of Phaffia rhodozyma as an astaxanthin sources in the aquaculture industry is limited because of the low carotenoid content of natural isolate. In this study, we have used the protoplast fusion technique to construct cell hybrids with an increased content of astaxanthin from P. rhodozyma. Cell hybrids (F307 and F406) obtained were very stable and produced considerably more astaxanthin (> 1 mg/g yeast) than the wild parent. Karyogamy was confirmed by the isolation of recombinants after mitotic segregation of parental auxotrophic genetic markers, the increased amount of chromosomal DNA/cell and the presence of single nucleus/cell.

  • Existing science education that excludes narrative thinking impedes the understanding of the context of workbook content. The object of this research is to develop a storytelling-learning program based on narrative thinking to elevate learners' interest in science and expand their inventive problem-solving abilities. Following an analysis of the current Korean curriculum, eight types of storytelling materials that utilize local content were developed for grades 7-9. The learning program used quest storytelling and was designed such that learning activities such as investigation, discussion, and experimentation were included in the process of solving each quest. Learners experienced an interest in storytelling learning resulting from participation in this storytelling-learning program. Moreover, learners demonstrated inventive problem-solving abilities in the process of completing the stories. During the process of assembling the storytelling materials, the students interacted with enthusiasm and generated ideas. The teachers indicated a positive feedback to the storytelling program as a new attempt to stimulate learners' interests. In the future, with continuous development and application, storytelling-science-learning programs that base science learning on narrative thinking are expected to be successful.

  • In this work, the effect of co-carbon fillers on the electrical and mechanical properties of epoxy nanocomposites was investigated. The graphite nanosheets (GNs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were used as co-carbon fillers. The results showed that the electrical conductivity of the epoxy nanocomposites showed a considerable increase upon an addition of MWNTs when GNs were fixed at 2 wt.%. This indicated that low content GNs formed the bulk conductive network and then MWNTs added were intercalated between the GN layers, resulted in the formation of additional conductive pathway. Furthermore, the flexural strength of the epoxy nanocomposites was enhanced with increasing the MWNT content. It was probably attributed to the flexible MWNTs compared with rigid GNs, resulted in the enhancement of the mechanical properties.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of the meaning in life for elementary school students. Methods: The conceptual framework was based on the five main concepts (meaning in life, creativity, experiences, attitudes, choice and responsibility) of logotherapy. Data from 1,600 higher grade elementary school students were analyzed for content of meaning in life. Results: The experiences of meaning in life were identified as follows: Important things in my life (people close to me, things that brings me happiness, to live in earnest, surrounding environment), Activities I like to do (relaxing, achievements, family relationships), Experiences that made me feel like I am loved (taken care of by family, material recompense, being respected), Times when I feel grateful (receive love and care, health), Importance of choices (consequences of bad choices, result of good life choices). Conclusion: These results suggest that elementary school students can understand meaning-centered health education and this kind of education is necessary to promote their wholistic health.

The data from 236 home economics teachers were randomly selected through a mailing survey in nation wide. The findings of this study are as follows: Teacher’s attitudes toward housing area implied some suggestions for the following curriculum. And these attitudes were similar among respondents. The level of demands for each content on housing was over 3.2 out of 5, which indicated generally high demands toward housing area. Safety issues was the most demanded content. followed by solving space problems. Those demanding related issues were similar among respondents.

  • Being aware of the present situation in Latvia and in whole Europe, Mathematics curriculum development is a topical issue. One of the ways how to deal with it is the application of study modules in the study process. The division of Mathematics studies in the Forms and Content Modules allows students to understand better the organization of study process of mathematics, and creates conceptual awareness of Mathematics logics and its practical application helping students to understand causal relationships and to develop cognitive skills. In the article will be present same theoretical aspects and practical experience in Latvia University of Agriculture.
