  • The purpose of this study was to identify concretely how to improve inquiry learning. To put the purpose in detail : 1) to define the inquiry skills 2) to select the factors of inquiry skills appropriate to the content of Science I (earth science) textbook 3) to develop items which consist of experimental inquiry and concept inquiry in due proportion, to evalute inquiry skills 4) to analyze the relationship between high school students' cognitive levels and the achievement of science inquiry skills. To achieve these objectives, the investigator sampled 558 students in eleventh grade, living in Seoul, Chung-Ju and Kwang-Ju, and evaluated their cognitive levels and the achievement of science inquiry skills. The results of this study showed that the cognitive levels of students were lower than those identified in Piaget's work and that the achievement of science inquiry skills were low also. It may be thought that one of most important reasons to bring about those results is lacking in adaptation capability of science inquiry items and inquiry learning. So, it can be recommended as a way to heighten cognitive levels to make inquiry learning using the textbook content. In conclusion, the investigator make suggestions as follows : 1) to give inquiry learning which consist of experimental inquiry and concept inquiry in due proportion 2) to develop inquiry items to include content for evaluating inquiry learning, and test items for psycho-motor areas 3) to publish textbooks which motivate students' inquiry activities and develop their creative thinking, considering students' cognitive levels and inquiry skills.

  • The purposes of the study are to see as to how much of changes has occurred in the newly revised high school Home Economics Textbooks required by the 6th Curriculum and to seek future policy directions which can be improved even better, if any, for further revision. To implement this proposal, the study employs 6 different textbooks published in 1996 geared for the 6th Curriculum for data base. The components of the contents divides into two major parts. The first part faUs into a category of holistic analysis of the textbooks, which gives a general perspective of the changes in the textbook revised. It includes those areas of changes in the total number of pacover page, illustrations, table of contents, appendices, unit cover, introductory remarks, summary and evaluation, etc. It also covers the information on authors of textbook. The latter part consists of several specific areas of major changes occurred in the textbooks for the 6th Curriculum. It covers such areas of changes in the composition of category and its weigh laboratory experiences, and illustrations and tables. To conclude the study, there found followings key features : 1) The new textbooks have adopted more of varieties in physical appearances and contents per se as to the older ones. And yet, there still found a weakness in numbers of authors participated to a full reflection of contents variety. In addition, the background of authors reflected on an unrealistic idealism which lacks the on-site information provided by the school teachers. 2) The content area consists of 3 major areas of Human Development & Family Relationship. Food and Nutrition. Clothing and Textiles with ratio of 23.8%, 23.1%, and 21.9% respectively. 3) Human Development & Family Relationship area ranked first with 71 times in the numbers of laboratory activities for each content area. followed by Food and Nutrition with 56 and Family Resorces & Consumerism with 54. These increased numbers of laboratory activities in textbooks represent the changing contents of Home Economics and imply the desirable and positive directions of Home Economics education in Korea. numbers of laboratory activities for each content area. followed by Food and Nutrition with 56 and Family Resorces & Consumerism with 54. • Recently, MPEG-I (Immersive) has been exploring compression performance through standardization projects for immersive video. The MPEG Immersion Video (MIV) standard technology is intended to provide limited 6DoF based on depth map-based image rendering (DIBR). MIV is a model that processes the Basic View and the residual information into an Additional View, which is a collection of patches. Atlases have the unique characteristics depending on the kind of the view they are included, requiring consideration of the compression efficiency. In this paper, the performance comparison analysis of screen content coding tools such as intra block copy (IBC) is conducted, based on the pattern of various views and patches repetition. It is demonstrated that the proposed method improves coding performance around -15.74% BD-rate reduction in the MIV.

  • Background: While online orthopedic resources are becoming an increasingly popular avenue for patient education, videos on YouTube are not subject to peer review. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the quality of YouTube videos for patient education in ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries of the elbow. Methods: A search of keywords for UCL injury was conducted through the YouTube search engine. Each video was categorized by source and content. Video quality, reliability, and accuracy were assessed by two independent raters using five metrics: (1) Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria (range 0-4) for video reliability; (2) modified DISCERN score (range 1-5) for video reliability; (3) Global Quality Score (GQS; range 1-5) for video quality; (4) ulnar collateral ligament-specific score (UCL-SS; range 0-16), a novel score for comprehensiveness of health information presented; and (5) accuracy score (AS; range 1-3) for accuracy. Results: Video content was comprised predominantly of disease-specific information (52%) and surgical technique (33%). The most common video sources were physician (42%) and commercial (23%). The mean JAMA score, modified DISCERN score, GQS, UCL-SS, and AS were 1.8, 2.4, 1.9, 5.3, and 2.7 respectively. Conclusions: Overall, YouTube is not a reliable or high-quality source for patients seeking information regarding UCL injuries, especially with videos uploaded by non-physician sources. The multiplicity of low quality, low reliability, and irrelevant videos can create a cumbersome and even inaccurate learning experience for patients.

  • A meatadata has become an essential element in order to recommend video content to users. However, it is passively generated by video content providers. In the paper, a method for automatically generating metadata was studied in the existing manual metadata input method. In addition to the method of extracting emotion tags in the previous study, a study was conducted on a method for automatically generating metadata for genre and country of production through movie audio. The genre was extracted from the audio spectrogram using the ResNet34 artificial neural network model, a transfer learning model, and the language of the speaker in the movie was detected through speech recognition. Through this, it was possible to confirm the possibility of automatically generating metadata through artificial intelligence.

  • With progress in emerging new media technology and associated device, there is growing interest in a new type of contents in the filed of children education. In this research, we developed a edutainment content for enhancing sociability and visual perception of children exploiting kinect. Recreating what is visually perceived with physical movement is adopted to develop visual perception. It is also designed such that one's sociability can be enhanced through experiencing natural physical contact and collaboration while interacting with the developed content. The prototype of the content was created through development of character to boost interest, a short animation for storytelling, and interactive programming. In the second pilot test which was done with the content improved through the first pilot test, it was observed that children easily played with it and actively participated in experiencing it. From this observation, it is expected that the developed content may work as a promising edutainment content which fosters children to enhance visual perception and sociability through natural interaction.
