Three Dimensional Analysis of High Frequency Induction Welding Phenomena (고주파 유도용접 현상의 3차원 해석)

  • High frequency induction welding is widely employed for longitudinal seam welding of small scale tubes and pipes because of its relatively high processing speed and efficiency. This research is aimed at understanding the variables that affect the quality of the high frequency induction welding. The welding variables include the welding frequency, weld speed, V-angle and tube thickness. Temperature distribution of the tube is calculated through three dimensional coupled electromagnetic and thermal FE analysis. The skin and proximity effects are considered in the electromagnetic analysis. The influence of the impeder is also analyzed. The effects of the operating welding variables on the temperature distribution are investigated quantitatively by exhibiting the heat affected zone (HAZ). The results explain the mechanism of significant enhancement of welding efficiency when the impeder is used. The proper welding conditions without the overheated edge are obtained through FE analysis.

A Scalable Coding Based on Edge-Preserving Filter and the Region of Interest Based on Saliency Detection (에지 보존 필터 및 관심영역 전송에 기반한 스케일러블 코딩 방법)

  • 본 논문에서는 HVS(human visual system)의 특성을 고려한 새로운 스케일러블 코딩방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 먼저 영상 내에서 관심영역(saliency map)을 찾고 관심영역을 제외한 부분에 에지 보존 필터를 적용한다. 그 영상은 정해진 양자 파라미터 값으로 인코딩 되어 제안된 코딩 시스템의 베이스 층(base layer)이 된다. 기존 스케일러블 코딩 표준에서의 베이스 층과 다르게 본 논문의 베이스 층은 관심 있는 중요영역(foreground)을 보존하고 또한 배경(background)의 에지 성분도 보존한다. 기본 층이 전송되면 개선층(enhancement layer)은 원 영상과 복원된 베이스 층 영상간의 차분 영상에서 관심영역 순으로 보내진다. 실험은 HEVC 를 바탕으로 수행되었고 스케일러블 코딩 표준인 SHVC 와 관심영역에서 비교를 했을 때 제안된 알고리즘이 더 높은 PSNR 을 가지는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 전체적으로 지각적인 품질(perceptual quality) 또한 향상되었음을 확인하였다.

Application of Blurred Under-subtraction Method on Angiography (BUS (blurred under-subtraction)를 응용(應用)한 혈관조영사진(血管造影寫眞)의 증강(增强))

  • Subtraction is an essential technic to improve imaging quality in various radiological procedures. The limitations of subtraction, however, are well known. Blurred under-subtraction (BUS) method has been suggested to overcome and compensate these limitations. Ten cases of angiography were subtracted by conventional subtraction and BUS technic. Results of this study revealed that BUS method is simple to perform and imaging quality obtained by BUS is excellent. Comparing to conventional subtraction, BUS method has advantages. For example, BUS need no mask film or no immobilization of patient during examination. Improvement of imaging Qualify is achieved by edge enhancement, homogeneous blurring of background density and increasing contrast. With emphasis of its simplicity in technic, we would report that BUS method is a useful adjunct imaging technic in various radiological procedures.

  • It is expected that Korean restaurant business will become one of the most important contributors to the notion's economy by the year 2000. As the many visible and invisible trade barriers are tumbled down and market opening to foreign competition expedites, a strategy to solidify the competitiveness of the restaurant industry is urgently needed. Some of the strateges that need to sharpen the competity edge are as follows: 1. Development of restaurant business management knowhow and enhancement of information gathering capability. 2. Development of its own unique brand of food and service tailored to many different tastes of clientele. 3. Promotion of the industry's globalization efforts with the development of local restaurant brand & Korean traditional foods and with the expansion of foreign investment. 4. Reinforcement of staff training and provision of a compensation package to attract qualified personnel. 5. deregulation of many anachronistic laws and restrictions with government's full support for the industry to realize what it's supposed to be in the 21st century.

  • The significance of intellectual property in the knowledge-based society has been increasing and as a result, the patent customer's demand for a top quality patent administration service has increased as well. Therefore, Korean Intellectual Property Office(KIPO) adopted 6 sigma as a tool for KIPO's innovation to improve the quality of patent administration and enhance customer satisfaction. KIPO's steadfast promotion of 6 sigma resulted in many successful outcomes such as improvement of policy and service process from customer's point view, streamlining the administrative procedures, increased work efficiency, capability enhancement of core personnel, and so on. Since 6 sigma has proved itself to be equipped with features suitable for innovation in public sector, it can be used as an extensible innovation tool to meet the challenges in rapidly changing administration environment and to achieve a competitive edge.

  • In nature, the swallowtail butterfly is known to be a versatile flyer using gliding and flapping efficiently. Furthermore, it has long tails on the hind-wing that may be associated with the enhancement of the gliding performance. In the present study, we investigate the aerodynamic property of swallowtail butterfly wing in gliding. We use an immersed boundary method and conduct a numerical simulation at the Reynolds numbers of 1,000 - 3,000 based on the free-stream velocity and the averaged chord length for seven different attack angles. As a result, we clearly identify the existence of the wing-tip and leading-edge vortices, and a pair of the streamwise vortices generated along the hind-wing tails. Interestingly, at the attack angle of $10^{\circ},$ hairpin vortices are generated above the center of the body and travel downstream.

  • Image quality is improved if the high frequency domains of boundary surface are made distinct. We suggested a method of correcting indistinct defects in ultrasonic images resulting from dynamic imaging. According to the results of the experiment, boundaries in input ultrasonic images became distinct. However, we need to solve the problem that information on pixels of low signal intensity adjacent to boundaries is lost because high-frequency components in the boundaries are strong.

  • 화질의 개선을 위해 잡음을 제거하는 기술이 많이 개발되고 있으며 그 기술들 중에 효과적으로 사용되고 있는 것 하나가 양방향 필터이다. 양방향 필터는 거리에 대한 가중치와 화소 값에 대한 가중치를 모두 고려하기 때문에 경계 부분을 보존하면서 잡음을 제거하는 것이 가능하다. 필터를 적용함으로 잡음이 제거되지만 본 논문에서는 그보다 나은 결과를 위해서 경계 부분을 캐니 에지 검출기로 검출하고 강조함으로써 양방향 필터의 장점을 전보다 부각시켜 이전보다 효과적인 화질개선 방법을 제시하고자 하였다.

Single Image Fog Removal based on JBDC and Pixel-based Transmission Estimation

  • In this paper, we present an effective single image fog removal by using the Joint Bright and Dark Channel (JBDC) and pixel-based transmission estimation to enhance the visibility of outdoor images susceptible to degradation due to weather and environmental conditions. The conventional methods include refinement process of coarse transmission with heavy computational complexity. The proposed transmission estimation reveals excellent edge-preserving performance and does not require the refinement process. We estimate the atmospheric light in pixel-based fashion, which can improve the transmission estimation performance and visual quality of the restored image. Moreover, we propose an adaptive transmission estimation to enhance the visual quality specifically in sky regions. Comprehensive experiments on various fog images show that the proposed method exhibits reduced computational complexity and excellent fog removal performance, compared with the existing methods; thus, it can be applied to various fields including real-time devices.

  • The structural and optical properties on $Bi^{3+}$ addition in (Y,Gd)(V,P)$O_4:Eu^{3+}$ red phosphor were investigated. With the addition of $Bi^{3+}$, the band edge in excitation spectrum shifts toward longer wavelength region, resulting in remarkable enhancement of the red emission intensity at 619 nm.
