  • Many services have been served by the exiting subway systems since they have opened in 1975. But its efficiency and competition were going down because of the high construction cost and difficult connection with other transportations, etc. Otherwise, the light rail transit system is much lower construction cost than the subway and the high way building. Also those systems are good at the inexpensive operation cost, the fixed time and safety, the easy access. Recently, the several provinces are planning or advancing the light rail transit system because of these many benefits. Consequently, those system's economical feasibility analysis is required rapidly to show the resonable construction's cause and to get the private investment. This paper offers the system's economical feasibility through the several benefit analysis after the light rail transit system's construction.

  • In light of the growing traffic congestion problem and congestion cost, the container transport by railway has to be increased. The freight transport by railway can have decided advantages over trucks in terms of energy efficiency, emissions and cost for certain freight movements, just as transportation in the metropolitan region can have great advantages over driving truck. But the freight transport by truck should gain significant mobility benefits from a freight railway system. Thus, the DMT(Dual Mode Trailer) transport system which is coupled railway transport advantages with load transport advantages has been developed and used in the european countries. The DMT transport will therefore serve the areas required by transport organizers. The purpose of this paper is to estimate economical feasibility analysis for development of DMT transport system. Consequently, this study analyzed the characteristics of the DMT system. The horizontal load.unload system is being considered as an adoptable DMT system in consideration of the situation in Korea.

  • In order to provide a basic information for the government policy in the future, rice milling costs of Small Capacity Farm-house Rice Whiteners (SCFRW) were estimated by surveying and analyzing the major factors to affect their costs. Two types of SCFRW having one stage and two stage milling process and two rice varieties, Tong-il and Akibare, were considered for their cost estimation, respectively. Also, their costs were compared with those of Private Custom-work Mill in order to determine its economical feasibility. The results were concluded as follows; 1. Major factors to affect the costs were annual milling quantity, purchase price of SCFRW and grain milling loss. 2. Total milling costs of SCFRW were a function of annual milling quantity. These costs decreased rapidly as annual milling quantity increased. 3. In comparison of milling costs between single pass type and double pass type SCFRW, the former was more economical than the latter. 4. Also, in comparison of milling costs between two varieties by using SCFRW, Akibare was less expensive than Tong-il. 5. In comparison with private Custom-work Mill, both single pass and double pass type SCFRW were less economical than private Custom-work Mill. 6. In order to have an economical feasibility, SCFRW should be designed and developed to reduce its milling loss and purchase price.

  • This paper evaluated the economic feasibility of the life extension of Kori unit 1 and Wolsong unit 1 according to the types of the nuclear power plants (NPPs) and the life extension period comparing to the levelized costs of energy (LCOE) of the new NPPs, coal-fired plants (CFPs), and combined cycle gas turbine (CCGTs) which proposed in the $7^{th}$ Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. The economic feasibility of the life extension of NPPs using LCOE method is affected by the types of NPPs, lifetime extension periods, discount rate, and capacity factor. According to the analysis results, the pressurized light water reactor (PWR) is more economical than the pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR). Comparing the economical efficiency between the life extension of NPPs and other alternatives, the operation of the PWR for 20 years is more economical than the one of new NPPs and CFPs. However, 20 years of life extension of PHWR is more economical than the CCGTs, but less economical than new NPPs and CFPs. In summary, the 20 years of life extension of the NPPs seems to be more, especially for the PWR, which is more cost effective than other generation alternatives. Therefore, the government policy of the life extension of NPPs need to be a selective approach that simultaneously considers both safety and economics rather than closing all NPPs.

  • The private sector is currently reviewing the feasibility of the project or deciding economic policies by analyzing the economic ripple effects. However, the arms acquisition project focuses on the need for the national defense weapons system by analyzing the costs and the effectiveness of the analysis and reviewing the necessity and feasibility of the project. In order to analyze the economic ripple effects, KB (the Bank of Korea) prepares and publishes an analysis table of industrial associations in a given unit. IAAR (the industrial association analysis report) is difficult to apply directly to the defense weapons system. Therefore, research on the economic ripple effects applicable to the defense arms procurement project was needed. In this study, we propose the generic methodology for estimating economical and technical ripple effects resulted in acquiring new weapon systems. Based on the analysis of inter-industrial relations, economical ripple effects are estimated with production inducing effects, value-induced effects, employment-induced effects and export-induced effects. Also, the technological ripple effects are estimated with technological intensity represented by investment cost in research and development. To show the validity of proposed methodology, a case study of acquiring new weapon systems such as GR (guided rocket), destroyer, and helicopter is accomplished. From the case study, it is concluded that these economical & technological ripple effects can be used as a reference to decision making in the course of acquiring major future defense weapons systems.
