Computational approaches for prediction of protein-protein interaction between Foot-and-mouth disease virus and Sus scrofa based on RNA-Seq

  • Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) is a highly contagious trans-boundary viral disease caused by FMD virus, which causes huge economic losses. FMDV infects cloven hoofed (two-toed) mammals such as cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and various wildlife species. To control the FMDV, it is necessary to understand the life cycle and the pathogenesis of FMDV in host. Especially, the protein-protein interaction between FMDV and host will help to understand the survival cycle of viruses in host cell and establish new therapeutic strategies. However, the computational approach for protein-protein interaction between FMDV and pig hosts have not been applied to studies of the onset mechanism of FMDV. In the present work, we have performed the prediction of the pig's proteins which interact with FMDV based on RNA-Seq data, protein sequence, and structure information. After identifying the virus-host interaction, we looked for meaningful pathways and anticipated changes in the host caused by infection with FMDV. A total of 78 proteins of pig were predicted as interacting with FMDV. The 156 interactions include 94 interactions predicted by sequence-based method and the 62 interactions predicted by structure-based method using domain information. The protein interaction network contained integrin as well as STYK1, VTCN1, IDO1, CDH3, SLA-DQB1, FER, and FGFR2 which were related to the up-regulation of inflammation and the down-regulation of cell adhesion and host defense systems such as macrophage and leukocytes. These results provide clues to the knowledge and mechanism of how FMDV affects the host cell.

  • Given both structural safety and economic benefits of aging facilities, remodelling of the existing facilities is preferable to reconstruction. This recognition provides an opportunity to reduce the commitment of resources and national budget. However, when a subordinate troop asks for remodeling or reconstruction of a deteriorated facility, it is difficult to ensure the consistency and objectivity in the process of decision making for the alternatives due to the absence of systematic and quantitative rating methodology. Their economic evaluation methodology only exists in a manual format. Thus, further research is required for converting the methodology into an automated system in view of practicality such as rapid and accurate data processing. The contributions of this study are as follows: 1) Literature review found out a representative economic evaluation model focused on military facilities, and comparative analysis with a similar study identified the strength and weakness. 2) this study presented how to convert the theoretical framework which enables to solve a specific subject matter into an automated system. 3) it developed a user friendly interfaces which consist of four functional modules by considering the usability and accessibility of the system user. 4) the developed system was verified by a case study in terms of four kinds of performance indicators.

  • Parts obsolescence is a component type, in which raw materials or parts that make up a weapons system, are developed and produced according to demand, but they age due to changes in technology or market conditions. The weapon system equipment currently being used by the military is having difficulty in procurement, maintenance, and operation because of the obsolescence of parts. Parts obsolescence during the life cycle of a weapons system affects not only the combat readiness of the military but also the economic loss of material, parts, and equipment manufacturers and suppliers. On the other hand, advanced technology has reduced the life span of electronic components that make up the weapons system. In addition, because of the nature of the weapons system, the obsolescence of components takes decades from development to disposal, which has a serious adverse effect on equipment readiness and life cycle costs. Therefore, it is necessary to manage systematically the parts obsolescence from development until the disposal of the weapons system equipment. This study examined the system of component control in developed countries to present a proper management plan for local situations and propose development plans for the early settlement of component control.

  • Contemporary society maintains mass-product system that keeps endless cycle of making and consuming. In this vein, everyday life becomes to be under the control of function and efficiency. On the contrary, the people are getting to have a desire of escaping from this everydayness, that is, the desire for non-everydayness. British architect, Nigel Coates understood the potentiality of contemporary metropolis which produce new experiences through their heterogeneities. During 1980s, Japanese economic bubble provided rich nourishment to the desire for non-everydayness based on consumers' tastes. Nigel Coates snatched this phenomena and designed commercial spaces aligned to the non-everydayness. He shows very eloquent version of escaping sense. We can find the exquisite quality of non-everydayness through design vocabulary of object's form and arrangement. In the viewpoint of object form, Coates adopted classical statues of Greek, that is antique, and modern gadgets such as airplane wings and seats. Also, we can find abundant gestures of curvilineal contours throughout the objects he designed. As for the objects' arrangement, he introduced repetition and curved composition that can stimulate human interaction with interior scape.

Eco-Efficiency Assessment of the Recycling Process in Resources Recycling Center (자원재활용센터의 재활용 공정에 대한 생태효율성 평가)

  • In this study, we evaluate the eco-efficiency for recycling processes of Busan Resources Recycling Center for each year from 2010-2012. It analyze the impact of global warming on the power consumption by Life Cycle Assessment. Also calculate the economic value by net profit components those are sales amount and electric charge in accordance with the process operation. On the basis of these results, each of the eco-efficiency Factor analysis and dynamics analysis of 2011 and 2012 as the base year to 2010 are performed. As a result, the impact of global warming in all the recycling processes is increased by increasing power consumption 2010-2012. But net profit is decreased. In addition, the eco-efficiency of all the recycling processes is decreased and analysis result of the eco-efficiency trends is located on the Fully non Eco-efficiency (--) level. Therefore, all the recycling processes are necessary improvement for power consumption reducing and net profit increasing to further the environmental and economically sustainable direction.

A Study on the Priority of Residential Choice Element by Middle-size City Residents (중도시 거주자의 주거선택요소 중요도)

  • The purpose of study is to suggest the data on what residential choice elements have to be considered to be important when the apartments are planed in middle size cities. This study analyzed the environmental characteristics of Cheong-Ju city and compared the priority of residential choice elements by using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process). The results of analysis are as follows. 1) The rate of housing supply in Cheong-Ju city is low at $80.2\%$ and concentrated on small sized apartments. Furthermore, the educational and traffic facilities are very insufficient. 2) While residential choice in Cheong-Ju is heavily characterized by educational surroundings, it is less affected by economic aspects such as housing prices and the value of investments and accessibility to public transportations, distance to working places. 3) It is affected by residents' general characteristics like as sex, age, life cycle, education level, properties, home ownership, number of room and type of house they want. In conclusion, the middle size cities like Cheong-Ju need the large scale residential plans connected with educational considerations, focused on improvement in quality and outdoor space. In addition, it is recommended to make plans to satisfy the diverse needs of consumers.

사회보장제도(社會保障制度)의 생애후생부담귀착(生涯厚生負擔歸着)에 관한 연구(硏究) : 일반균형연산모형(一般均衡演算模型)을 이용한 접근(接近)

  • 지금까지 사회보장제도(社會保障制度)의 경제적(經濟的) 효율성(效率性)에 대한 많은 논의가 있어 왔다. 그러나 그중 생애주기(生涯週期)(life-cycle)에 바탕을 둔 일반균형연산모형(一般均衡演算模型)(AGE : Applied General Equilibrium)에 의환 경험적 분석은 미진하였다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)의 목적(目的)은 사회보장제도(社會保障制度)의 세대내(世代內) 생애소득분위간(生涯所得分位間) 재분배효과(再分配效果)와 경제적(經濟的) 효율성(效率性)을 분석하는 데 있다. 연구방법으로서 Fullerton and Rogers(1993) 모형을 수정한 일부문(一部門), 다소비자(多消費者) 생애주기(生涯週期) 일반균형연산모형(一般均衡演算模型)을 이용하였다. 본 연구는 미국을 대상으로 한 정상상태(定常狀態)(steady state)의 분석이며, 소비자(消費者)를 생애소득별(生涯所得別)로 5분위(分位)로 나누어 기존 사회보장세(社會保障稅) 및 급여(給與)가 경제적(經濟的) 효율성(效率性)뿐만 아니라 계층간(階層間)의 분배(分配)에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 분석하였다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)의 주요한 기여사항(寄與事項)은, 첫째 사회보장제도(社會保障制度)의 부담귀착분석(負擔歸着分析)에 새로운 연구방법(硏究方法)을 시도하였다는 점, 둘째 재정정책(財政政策)의 하나인 사회보장제도(社會保障制度)의 실질적(實質的) 부담(負擔)의 귀착문제(歸着問題)를 생애주기모형(生涯週期模型)으로 분석하였다는 점, 셋째 부담(負擔)의 귀착(歸着)은 사회보장세(社會保障稅)와 아울러 사회보장급여(社會保障給與)를 고려하여 분석하지 않으면 편향(偏向)(biased) 될 수 있다는 점을 지적한 점, 넷째 분석결과(分析結果) 기존 사회보장제도(社會保障制度)는 생애주기적(生涯週期的) 소득분배(所得分配)의 관점에서 누진적(累進的)(progressive)인 제도이지만 경제적(經濟的) 비효율성(非效率性)(efficiency cost)을 내재하고 있다는 점 등을 밝힌 것이다.

  • Reports on VE/LCC based coastal structural design were analyzed to derive possible improvement. VE/LCC technique may be effectively applied to making decisions in coastal structural design. However, it has not been well utilized in recent projects for some problems. Therefore, recent project reports on VE/LCC have been analyzed and merits and demerits were classified. Then, the reason why VE/LCC cannot be effectively applied to real projects was drived. Finally, some pre-requisites to improve the technique were summarized.

  • 상수도시설은 준공후 관련지자체에 이관 관리하는 시설로서 사용관종이 현재 다양하게 생산 보급되고 있어 관종 선정시 다각적인 측면에서 검토하여 채택하여야 한다. 최근 한국토지공사에서 사용하고 있는 상수도 관종은 대부분 택지개발계획 등 인허가 당시부터 관리주체인 지방자치단체 등과의 협의과정을 거쳐 선정되는 경우가 많아 자재선택에 한계성이 있다. 이를 극복하기 위해서는 자재 성능에 대한 공사내 명확한 기준이 제시되어야 한다. 상수관종을 선정하기 위한 가장 중요한 요소는 경제성으로 판단되는데, 관종의 경제성은 시공비와 자재비를 포함한 단순 공사비에만 국한되는 것이 아니라 유지관리비용을 포함한 생애주기비용(LCC: Life Cycle Cost)을 평가하여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국토지공사에서 택지지구 조성을 위해 사용한 배수관.급수관용 상수관종에 대한 경제성 평가기준을 제시하였고, 평가기준에 따라 각각의 택지지구 조성사례별로 종합적인 경제성 평가를 수행하였다. 보다 풍부한 자료를 바탕으로 객관적인 경제성평가 기준을 수립하기 위한 전(前)과정으로 이해되길 바라며, 설계시부터 객관적인 평가기준을 통해 합리적인 상수관을 선정하여 지금까지의 상수관종 자재선택의 한계를 최소한으로 축소하고자 하는데 가장 큰 목표를 가지고 있다.

  • Domestic remodeling market is now growing centering around non housing building. Unlike non housing building remodeling business, understanding of remodeling demanders accustomed to profit of reconstruction, deficiency of experience performing remodeling project and construction, shortage of will performing remodeling policy and detailed action method are difficulties in performing apartment building remodeling business. Understanding change of remodeling demanders. strong economic incentive by government, construction management paradigm shift from new construction into building life cycle, application of construction method using existing building condition before remodeling and remodeling related industry infrastructure are required to improve this remodeling business circumstances.
