  • The purpose of this study was to identify environmental perception of eco-friendly apartment residents in the perspective of ecology. Questionnaire survey was adopted in this study, and 92 cases were used for data analysis. As an indicator of environmental perception, the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) instrument was used. The NEP instrument consists of five dimensions: the reality of limits to growth, anti-anthropocentrism, the fragility of nature's balance, the rejection of exemptionalism, and the possibility of an eco-crisis. The findings showed that the residents held ecological environmental perceptions. Various social characteristics(gender, age, income) of the respondents were related to acceptance of the NEP.

  • An attempt to clarify the landscape structure of urban areas was carried out on Mt. Hwangryung located in the center of Pusan, southern Korea. By means of aerial photographs and field survey, a vegetation map including land-use pattern was made. Landscape structure was described by analyzing the vegetation map. Landscape element types were classified into secondary forest, introduced plantation, and other elements including urbanized area. almus firma and Pinus thunbergii communities, introduced plantation elements, formed matrix and some secondary forest elements and the other artificial plantations of small scale tended to distribute as small patches in such matrix. The number of patches per unit area in secondary forest elements was more than that in introduced plantation element. The result on patech size was vice versa. As the results of landscape ecological analyses, it was estimated that differentiation of patches recognized in community level would be related to artificial interference and those in sub-communities levels to natural process such as progression of succession. On the other hand, restoration plans in viewpoints of restoration and landscape ecology were suggested to improve ecological quality of Mt. hwangryung.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of visual properties on the human movement behavior experimentally and empirically using spatial analysis technique based on ecological perception theory. For the survey of choosing behaviors of heading direction in built environments, the experiment was conducted in which the subjects were made to choose moving directions in some spaces using the virtual environment simulation tool, and then comparative analysis was conducted on the interrelation between the experiment results and various visual properties in existing spatial analysis techniques based on ecological perception theory. As a result, the occlusivity of the isovist theory was found to be the most significant index in the human choice of heading direction, and the longest radial also showed somewhat significant effect on it.

  • This study aims to establish operating methods for value-oriented and competitive operation of Dalseong Wetland Ecological Learning Center in Daegu, Korea, which will open in 2018. For this purpose, we surveyed 77 Ecological learning facility managers nationwide using 22 questions on the subjects such as the operating method, volunteer, budget, and profit. The managers of 50 ecological learning facilities (Type A) responded, and we extracted the responses by the managers of 12 ecological learning facilities (Type B) that had the similar size as the Dalseong Wetland Ecological Learning Center and conducted an additional analysis. The results of the survey indicated that it was advisable for Daegu Metropolitan City to operate the Dalseong Wetland Ecological Learning Center and that the staff at least 3-5 managers were necessary while the number of volunteers to regularly work at the center was estimated to be 25-30. Excluding labor costs, the annual operating budget was estimated to be between 150 million won and 200 million won if Daegu Metropolitan City operates the facility directly. This study is meaningful in that it provides reference data to establish realistic and detailed management plan of the Dalseong Wetland Ecological Learning Center based on the opinions of the surveyed managers of ecological learning facilities in Korea.

  • There are several environmental variables that may be influential to the spatial distribution of forest vegetation. To create a map of forest vegetation zone over southern part of Korean Peninsula, digital map layers were produced for each of environmental variables that include topography, geographic locations, and climate. In addition, an extensive set of field survey data was collected at relatively undisturbed forests and they were introduced into the GIS database with exact coordinates of survey sites. Preliminary statistical analysis on the survey data showed that the environmental variables were significantly different among the previously defined five forest vegetation zones. Classification of the six layers of digital map representing environmental variables was carried out by a supervised classifier using the training statistics from field survey data and by a clustering algorithm. Although the maps from two classifiers were somewhat different due to the classification procedure applied, they showed overall patterns of vertical and horizontal distribution of forest zones. considering the spatial contents of many ecological studies, GIS can be used as an important tool to manage and analyze spatial data. This study discusses more about the generation of digital map and the analysis procedure rather than the outcome map of forest vegetation zone.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose remedial devices through the analysis on the operation status of nature trails in the nine National Parks in Korea. To accomplish these goals, the field survey for the nature trail facilities and their nature environmental conditions and a questionnaire survey also had been done, and 1,102 samples have been collected. Nature trails are usually located where the visitors re concentrated for a certain season or year-round, and ease of the visits guaranteed. However, since most of trails are located along the valley, the courses have disadvantage of passing in a single trail. Also, many trails are using former tracking courses, and the environmental conditions are not satisfactory due to the damages incurred by the visitors. Since nature trails are still on the introductory stage, basic tactics such as the design of courses, construction methods, management skills needs further improvements. As the Natural Parks Act does not have any clear definition of nature trails, it invokes the definition of tracking course instead, which in turn hinders the development of the nature trails. The nature trail system was just introduced to Korean National Parks and a pioneer in the Korea. Therefore, when provincial and urban recreational parks wish to introduce the environmental education programs within each park system, nature trails in national parks can be performed as a role model. Further improvements should be made within the such fields as preliminary natural ecological survey, lacks of professional designers for the facilities, lacks of interpreter and interpretation within nature trails.

  • The fashion industry analyzes the value of its essence with ecological design and is expressed as an innovative sculpture using digital technology. Accordingly, this study explores ecological images and digital technologies, categorizes types and derives their meanings through analysis of ecological images shown in modern digital fashion. A literature survey was conducted on ecological images and digital technology as a theoretical background. To analyze the expression type and internal meanings of ecological images, designs with ecological formability were selected and analyzed from related journals, books, and internet sites. The finding are as follows: The expression type was first identified as organic curved garment silhouettes of a non-material liquid with digital retouching. Second, ecological fashion design includes structural shape that applies the silhouette of an organism and patterning of the ecosystem. Third, ecosystems consist of interactions between components of an ecosystem that appear in the interactive type. Accordingly, the internal meanings of ecological images in modern digital fashion are: first, digital fashion can encircle the inherent concepts of nature as organic collections of individuals; second, digital ecological images emphasize a sense of community with coexistence and harmony, playing a complementary role; and finally, the images express perceptual features by providing people with transcendent experiences. This study is significant as it analyzes new formative features based on ecological systems in the digital fashion environment, establishes an aesthetic system through internal meanings, and enhances awareness of human-natural relationships.
