  • The purpose of this study was to determine domestic and foreign ecological asset research trends. We aimed to understand ecological assets research directions and trends by comprehensively analyzing 12 keywords, including those similar to keywords for comparable assets, to identify related fields and regions. Extensive analysis of domestic and foreign studies was conducted through keyword network analysis of textural information. This approach is helpful for understanding the flow of information and identifying research directions. Foreign studies based on sustainability were connected with 'Economic assessment', 'Management' and 'Policy' areas. It was difficult to determine domestic research trends because there are fewer domestic studies than foreign. There were studies that sought to identify economic value of developing regions. This research can be used to guide the research direction for future ecosystem asset analysis in Korea.

  • Predictions of suitable habitat areas can provide important information pertaining to the risk assessment and management of alien plants at early stage of their establishment. Here, we predict the invasion potential of Muhlenbergia capillaris (pink muhly) in South Korea using five bioclimatic variables. We adopt four models (generalized linear model, generalized additive model, random forest (RF), and artificial neural network) for projection based on 630 presence and 600 pseudo-absence data points. The RF model yielded the highest performance. The presence probability of M. capillaris was highest within an annual temperature range of 12 to 24℃ and with precipitation from 800 to 1,300 mm. The occurrence of M. capillaris was positively associated with the precipitation of the driest quarter. The projection map showed that suitable areas for M. capillaris are mainly concentrated in the southern coastal regions of South Korea, where temperatures and precipitation are higher than in other regions, especially in the winter season. We can conclude that M. capillaris is not considered to be invasive based on a habitat suitability map. However, there is a possibility that rising temperatures and increasing precipitation levels in winter can accelerate the expansion of this plant on the Korean Peninsula.

  • For the culture the population growth, shell length and spawning seasons of Gomphina veneriformis, and its environmental factors, were investigated at the Jeju coastal regions. from Feburuary, 1975 to March, 1976. The soil movements of the tidal flats where the clams inhabited were relatively rapid during the strong tidal actions. The rate of population growth were rapid from April to September, then became obsure. The relative growth equations of the shell height (SH) and the shell breadth (SB) against the shell length (SL) of the clams were as follows: Changhung : SH=0.751 SL + 0.685, SB=0.448 SL-0.630 Pyoson : SH-0.775 SL - 0.115, SB=0.464 SL-1.008 Hwhason : SH=0.794 SL - 0.923, SB=0.485 SL-1.155 Kwhagzee : SH=0.771 SL - 0.644, SB=0.455 SL-1.049 The meat weight increases of the clams were continued from March to late June, then it decreased sharply up to late August. The spawning of the clams seems to be late from June to Spetember in the regions studied.

  • This study aims to identify appropriate tree species and crops for agroforestry target sites in North Korea based on ecological geography and site properties. To this end, an ecological geographic map (13 regions and 4 zones) of North Korea was made using satellite images and North Korean academic journal articles. The target agroforestry sites were selected and mapped according to 18 site conditions depending on 3 site characteristics, and the sites were divided into short-term and long-term target sites depending on the agroforestry management period. Finally, optimal combinations of 30 tree species and 19 crops were selected by overlapping the ecological geographic map and agroforestry target site map. For regions within the same zone, tree species and crops were almost similar; however, compared to regions in other zones, they differed. This is likely because the geographical climatic characteristics reflected in the ecological geographic map vary greatly from zone to zone. These results will be used to propose a combination of suitable tree species and crops that takes into account both management purposes and management types for inter-Korean forest cooperation in the agroforestry sector.

  • Objective: This study aimed to elucidate the underlying gene regions responsible for productive, phenotypic or adaptive traits in different ecological types of Tibetan sheep and the discovery of important genes encoding valuable traits. Methods: We used whole-genome resequencing to explore the genetic relationships, phylogenetic tree, and population genetic structure analysis. In addition, we identified 28 representative Tibetan sheep single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and genomic selective sweep regions with different traits in Tibetan sheep by fixation index (Fst) and the nucleotide diversity (θπ) ratio. Results: The genetic relationships analysis showed that each breed partitioned into its own clades and had close genetic relationships. We also identified many potential breed-specific selective sweep regions, including genes associated with hypoxic adaptability (MTOR, TRHDE, PDK1, PTPN9, TMTC2, SOX9, EPAS1, PDGFD, SOCS3, TGFBR3), coat color (MITF, MC1R, ERCC2, TCF25, ITCH, TYR, RALY, KIT), wool traits (COL4A2, ERC2, NOTCH2, ROCK1, FGF5, SOX9), and horn phenotypes (RXFP2). In particular, a horn-related gene, RXFP2, showed the four most significantly associated SNP loci (g. 29481646 A>G, g. 29469024 T>C, g. 29462010 C>T, g. 29461968 C>T) and haplotypes. Conclusion: This finding demonstrates the potential for genetic markers in future molecular breeding programs to improve selection for horn phenotypes. The results will facilitate the understanding of the genetic basis of production and adaptive unique traits in Chinese indigenous Tibetan sheep taxa and offer a reference for the molecular breeding of Tibetan sheep.

  • As a first step for delineating the provenance regions of the forest trees in Korea, horizontal zones have been deduced primarily from the various climatic factors such as annual mean temperature, extremely low temperature, relative humidity, annual gum of possible growing days, duration of sunshine and dry index. The basic concept to the delineation of the provenance regions was based on the ecological regions, which was likely to be more practical than that on the basis of the typical provenance regions at the species level. Primary classification of the regions has been based on the forest zones(sub-tropical, warm-temperate, mid-temperate and cool-temperate) as a broad geographic region. Further classification has been carried out using cluster analyses among the basic regions within forest zone. On the basis of clustering, a total of 19 regions including 3 from sub-tropical, 6 from warm-temperate, 8 from mid-temperate and 2 from cool-temperate was horizontally delineated. Of the mean values of 6 climate factors at the broad geographic region level, three factors such as annual mean temperature, extremely low temperature, annual growing days showed directional tendencies from subtropical to cool-temperate, while the others didn't. The values of relative humidity, duration of sunshine and dry index varied among the provenance regions within forest zone. These three factors might he more sensitive by the micro-environment condition than by the macro-environment condition. Present study aimed to delineate the primary provenance regions for tentative application to forest practices. These will be stepwise revised through the supplement using accumulated information regard to genecological data.

  • This article is written in the viewpoint of landscape ecological geography. The coast of South Chung-chong Province will make new characters of region in the development strategies program. This study is to describe geomorphological landscapes of South Chung-chong Province relating with it's environment based on the coast. Although landforms constitute prominent landscape features as tidal flats and rock cliff do, it is nonetheless the features such as beaches, sanddunes, and coastal plains that have various ramifications for human communities. Tidal flats, beaches and coastal sanddunes are special in that their formation is attributable to the combined action of tidal flows, waves and winds. To some extent, the erosion of sand has been a global phenomenon. Human impact are involved. The influence of globalization and expansion of liberal trade appears in regions variously. Individual regions need to secure its competitiveness in the world market. Regions are not value-neutral abstract conception, but must be informal commercialized characters of region. The coast of South Chung-chong Province has experienced rapid and dramatic changes. In industrial times, the middle of west coast Korea turned into a major reclamation at larger scale. Reclaimed land was based on location of industry and mechanized agriculture. The west coast highway and bridges between island and land contributed to the development of west coast transportation. As information society matured, trend and value are changing. Environment and ecology emphasize and rediscover the value of tidal flats and sanddunes. The west coast region now receives attention as eco-tour and sustainable course.

  • The systematic data management system in the area of river flow analysis has not yet constructed, even though the need is evident due to the complicated process of tremendous input/output data in the modeling study and the importance of visualization of spatial flow variation. The objectives of this study are to suggest the method for analysis of changing river sections affecting ecological habitat characteristics. The effects of ecological habitat characteristics are assessed with respect to changing river sections. A GIS special analysis is created representing in the past section of Nonsan-river using historical data. Topographic surfaces are subject to erosional and depositional forces that a specific set of surface characteristics unique to elevation data. GIS spatial analyst is used to generate surface grids from historical point data. Using the GIS spatial analyst can be constructed sections for anywhere of river. The change of depth between 1979 and 1988, the left bank elevations of a river are increased about 1.5m. But the right bank elevations of a river are decreased about 2.3m caused by erosion. In addition, the change of spatial between 1988 and 2002, the regions of a river from upper stream to midstream are decreased the elevation. But the downstream regions are increased the elevation. These changes are analyzed in GIS program to assess methods for affecting ecological habitat.
