A long-term project(ten-year ; 1982-92) for the photoeletric observation in the UBV passbands of selected eclipsing binaries with P$\geq$10 days has initiated at Yonsei University Observatory using 40-cm and 61-cm reflectors. the instrumentatio used and the observation techniques and the reduction procedures applied to this investiagation are described. Out of 39 program stars, successful results have been obtained during our first two years for the 11 stars listed below, with the orbital period in days in the parenthesis, and the incomplete light curves of these stars are presented. SX Cas (36.57) AQ Cas (11.72) UU Cnc (96.71) RY Gem (9.30) V373 Cas (13.42) NY Cep (15.28) RX Cas (32.32) V396 Cas (15.28) ZZ Cnc (25.60) Zet Aur (982.2) Eps Aur (9885.) For the rest of the stars, the observations made in the first two years are not sufficient to attempt any meaning light curve construction ; some of the data are too fragmented and others show large scatter.
We constructed the photometric observation system with a small semi-automatic telescope for the systematic observations of eclipse timings of eclipsing binary stars. The system is consisted of a Paramount GT-1100s mount system, a Celestron 14 optical system, and a SBIG ST-8 camera. We developed the OBSTOOL S/W which controls the telescope and the CCD camera using the COM(Component Object Model) supported by the softwares, The Sky and MaximDL. The system performs photometric observations of a variable, comparison and check stars by moving the telescope to the chosen star separately in a similar way such as the method of photoelectric observation. We wrote pert scripts which enable a data handling pipeline for the obtained data to be classified by each of date, object and filter. And thus the images are easily preprocessed using the IRAF S/W package. Eclipse light curves of some eclipsing binary stars observed with this system are presented.
As a part of the short-period variability survey (SPVS) at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory, we obtained time-series BV CCD images in the region of the open cluster NGC 1039 (M34). The observations were performed for 22 nights from July 29, 2008 to September 26, 2010. We also made LOAO observations for 10 days from September 18, 2009 to October 30, 2010 to confirm the small variabilties of ${\delta}$ Scuti-type variable stars. In this paper we presented the observational properties of 28 variable stars found in the region. They are seven ${\delta}$ Scuti-type variable stars, two ${\gamma}$ Doradus-type variable stars, four-teen eclipsing binary stars and five semi-long periodic or slow irregular variables, respectively. Only three variables were listed in the GCVS and the rest are newly discovered ones. We have performed multiple-frequency analysis to determine pulsation frequencies of the ${\delta}$ Scuti-type and ${\gamma}$ Doradus-type variable stars, using the discrete Fourier transform and linear least-square fitting methods. We also have derived the periods and amplitudes of 12 eclipsing binaries from the phase fitting method, and presented the light curves of all variable stars.
Multiple stellar systems composed of triple, double+double or double+triple, etc. are very rare and interesting objects for understanding the star formation and dynamical evolution. However, only six systems have been found to be a doubly eclipsing quadruple, which consists of two eclipsing binaries, and four systems to be a triply eclipsing hierarchical triple. Recently, the 15 doubly eclipsing multiple candidates located in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) have been reported by the OGLE project. In order to examine whether these candidates are real multiple systems with eclipsing features, we performed a high-cadence time-series photometry for the LMC using the KMTNet (Korea Microlensing Telescope Network) 1.6 m telescopes in three site (CTIO, SAAO, and SSO) during 2016-2017. The KMTNet data will help reveal the photometric properties of the multiple-star candidates. In this paper, we present the VI light curves and their preliminarily analyses for 12 of the 15 eclipsing systems in the LMC, based on our KMTNet observations and the OGLE-III survey data from 2001-2009.

Many filtered CCD measures form the basis of six new light curves of the eclipsing system SW Lyn. From these measures and additional observations for eclipse timing, 47 new times of minimum light over the time-interval of about 13 years have been calculated. The complex period variability can be sorted into a linear period improvement with 5.8-year and 33.9-year periodic terms. The shorter cyclic term of these is ascribed to a cool companion of the eclipsing pair but the longer one has no testable interpretation at present. The new light curves are synthesized by the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinney differential corrections computer code. The results incorporate a source of "third light" which comes from the cool companion star that had been identified by the cycling of the period of the eclipsing pair and also had previously been identified spectroscopically. There is a measure of satisfaction with current understanding of the SW Lyn eclipsing system because of consistent syntheses of all historical light curves. This agreeable convergence, however, comes partly at the expense of an unanticipated temperature of the hot star and of a photospheric spot that has no obvious basis in the detached character modeled for the binary. We offer predictions of changes in the stellar parameters if the modeled detached-configuration should be wrong. The SW Lyn stellar system is still difficult to understand.
Some Algol-type interacting binary stars exhibit strange photometric variations that can be phase-dependent and/or secular. This paper discusses the possibility of explaining these observed variations as resulting from an accretion structure eclipsing one or both of the stars. Some previous studies are reviewed and suggestions for future work are made, including the prospective of incorporating data from the Kepler Observatory.

We present analyses of ~1250 variable sources identified in a 20 square degree field toward NGC 2784 by the KMTNet Supernova Program. We categorize the variable sources into three groups based on their B-band variability. The first group consists of 31 high variability sources with their B-band RMS variability greater than 0.3 magnitudes. The second group of medium variability contains 265 sources with RMS variability between 0.05 and 0.3 magnitudes. The remaining 951 sources belong to the third group of low variability with an RMS variability smaller than 0.05 magnitudes. Of the entire ~1250 sources, 4 clearly show periods of variability greater than 100 days, while the rest have periods shorter than ~51 days or no reliable periods. The majority of the sources show either rather irregular variability or short periods faster than 2 days. Most of the sources with reliable period determination between 2 and 51 days belong to the low-variability group, although a few belong to the medium-variability group. All the variable sources with periods longer than 35 days appear to be very red with B - V > 1.5 and V - I > 2.1 magnitudes. We classify candidates of 51 Cepheids, 17 semi-regular variables, 3 Mira types, 2 RV(B) Tauri stars, 26 eclipsing binary systems and 1 active galactic nucleus. The majority of long-term variables in our sample belong to either Mira or semi-regular types, indicating that long-term variability may be more prominent in post-main sequence phases of late-type stars. The depth of the eclipsing dips of the 26 candidates for eclipsing binaries is equivalent to ~0.61 as the average relative size of the two stars in the binary system. Our results illustrate the power of the KMTNet Supernova Program for future studies of variable objects.

High-resolution spectroscopic observations of the eclipsing binary system RR Lyn were made using the 1.8 m telescope at the Bohuynsan Optical Astronomical Observatory in Korea. The spectral resolving power was R = 82,000, with a signal to noise ratio of S/N > 150. We found the effective temperatures and surface gravities of the primary and secondary components to be equal to $T_{eff}$ = 7,920 & 7,210 K and log(g) = 3.80 & 4.16, respectively. The abundances of 34 and 17 different chemical elements were found in the atmospheric components. Correlations between the derived abundances with condensation temperatures and the second ionization potentials of these elements are discussed. The primary component is a typical metallic line star with the abundances of light and iron group elements close to solar values, while elements with atomic numbers Z > 30 are overabundant by 0.5-1.5 dex with respect to solar values. The secondary component is a ${\lambda}$ Boo type star. In this type of stars, CNO abundances are close to solar values, while the abundance pattern shows a negative correlation with condensation temperatures.
The orbital period changes of the W UMa eclipsing binary AU Ser are studied using the (O-C) method. We conclude that the period variation is due to mass transfer from the primary star to the secondary one at a very low and decreasing rate $dP/dt=-8.872{\times}10^{-8}$, superimposed on the sinusoidal variation due to a third body orbiting the binary with period $42.87{\pm}3.16$ years, orbital eccentricity $e=0.52{\pm}0.12$ and a longitude of periastron passage ${\omega}=133^{\circ}.7{\pm}15$. On studying the magnetic activity, we have concluded that the Applegate mechanism failed to describe the cycling variation of the (O-C) diagram of AU Ser.
We present an analysis of the measurements of mid-eclipse times of V839 Oph, collected from literature sources. Our analysis indicates a period increase of $3.2{\times}10^{-7}$ day/yr. This period increase of V839 Oph can be interpreted in terms of mass transfer of rate $1.76{\times}10^{-7}M_{\odot}/yr$, from the less to the more massive component. The O - C diagram shows a damping sine wave covering two different complete cycles of 36.73 yr and 19.93 yr with amplitudes approximately equal to 0.0080 and 0.0043 day, respectively. The third cycle has to be expected to cover about 13.5 years with lower amplitude than those of the former two cycles. These unequal duration cycles show a non periodicity which may be explained as resulting from either the presence of a tertiary component to the system or cyclic magnetic activity variations due to star spots. For the later mechanism, the obtained characteristics are consistent when applying Applegate (1992) mechanism.
