Nonlinear Echo Cancellation using a Correlation LMS Adaptation Scheme (상관(Correlation) LMS 적응 기법을 이용한 비선형 반향신호 제거에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, nonlinear echo cancellation using a correlation LMS (CLMS) algorithm is proposed to cancel the undesired nonlinear echo signals generated in the hybrid system of the telephone network. In the telephone network, the echo signals may result the degradation of the network performance. Furthermore, digital to analog converter (DAC) and analog to digital converter (ADC) may be the source of the nonlinear distortion in the hybrid system. The adaptive filtering technique based on the nonlinear Volterra filter has been the general technique to cancel such a nonlinear echo signals in the telephone network. But in the presence of the double-talk situation, the error signal for tap adaptations will be greatly larger, and the near-end signal can cause any fluctuation of tap coefficients, and they may diverge greatly. To solve a such problem, the correlation LMS (CLMS) algorithm can be applied as the nonlinear adaptive echo cancellation algorithm. The CLMS algorithm utilizes the fact that the far-end signal is not correlated with a near-end signal. Accordingly, the residual error for the tap adaptation is relatively small, when compared to that of the conventional normalized LMS algorithm. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm, the DAC of hybrid system of the telephone network is considered. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can cancel the nonlinear echo signals effectively and show robustness under the double-talk situations.

  • This paper focuses on the development of speech enhancement techniques for hands-free audio terminals, including two major problems : noise cancellation and acoustic echo cancellation. The objective is to find a joint structure to get a near-end speech signal with minimum distortion and low levels of echo and noise. To solve the two problems, a new promising technique is studied and tested in computer simulation conditions.

  • We propose a new relay system which use echo cancellation in relay station. In the proposed relay system, a half of time resource is required to transmit a symbol compared to conventional relay system. We show the echo cancellation method and frame structure of the proposed system. Simulation result shows that the proposed system has twice capacity than that of the conventional system.

  • Blind speech separation (BSS) is well-known as a powerful technique for speech enhancement in many real world environments. In this paper, we propose a new application of BSS - acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) in a car environment. For this purpose, we develop a block-online BSS algorithm which provides robust separation than a batch version in changing environments with moving speakers. Simulation results using real world recordings show that the block-online BSS algorithm is very robust to speaker movement. When combined with AEC, simulation results using real audio recording in a car confirm the expectation that BSS improves double talk detection and echo suppression.

  • In this paper, the echo noise robust CHMM learning model using echo cancellation average estimator LMS algorithm is proposed. To be able to adapt to the changing echo noise. For improving the performance of a continuous speech recognition, CHMM models were constructed using echo noise cancellation average estimator LMS algorithm. As a results, SNR of speech obtained by removing Changing environment noise is improved as average 1.93dB, recognition rate improved as 2.1%.

  • NLMS algorithm is degraded by the ambient noises and the near-end speech signals. In this paper, a robust acoustic echo cancellation algorithm is proposed. To enhance the echo cancellation performance, the step size of the proposed algorithm is normalized by the sum o fthe power of the reference signals and the primary signals. as results of comparing the excess mean square errors, it is shown that the proosed algorithm can enhance the performance of cancelling the echo signals. Some experiments, which is used multimedia personal computer, are carried out. As results of experiments, the proposed algorithm shows better performance than conventional ones.

  • Echo cancellation is required for a dual-duplex high speed communication such as digital subscriber line(DSL), in order to allow each individual loop to operate in a full duplex fashion. Echo cancellation was one of the most difficult aspects of DSL design, requiring high linearity and total echo return loss in excess of 70 dB. For a long and rapidly changing echo response, if the echo is cancelled by an adaptive echo canceller, the echo canceller needs more taps and its performance is decreased. But if the response is divided into several responses, which response is estimated by a adaptive digital filter and combined, the computation complexities are decreased and the performance is increased. Therefore, the adaptive multi-stage echo canceller is proposed to decrease the computation complexity and increase the performance of echo return loss, in which the echo canceller is composed of several stage echo canceller estimating each divided echo response. Through computer simulations, this multi-stage echo canceller is verified to have merits for high speed communications such as DSL application.

A Study on the Design of Integrated Speech Enhancement System for Hands-Free Mobile Radiotelephony in a Car

  • This paper presents the integrated speech enhancement system for hands-free mobile communication. The proposed integrated system incorporates both acoustic echo cancellation and engine noise reduction device to provide signal enhancement of desired speech signal from the echoed plus noisy environments. To implement the system, a delayless subband adaptive structure is used for acoustic echo cancellation operation. The NLMS based adaptive noise canceller then applied to the residual echo removed noisy signal to achieve the selective engine noise attenuation in dominant frequency component. Two sets of computer simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the system; one for the fixed acoustical environment condition, the other for the robustness of the system in which, more realistic situation, the acoustic transmission environment change. Simulation results confirm the system performance of 20-25dB ERLE in acoustic echo cancellation and 9-19 dB engine noise attenuation in dominant frequency component for both cases.

Echo and Noise Reduction Using Modifed AP Algorithm Combined with Linear Predictor (선형예측기와 개선된 AP(affine projection) 알고리즘을 결합한 반향 및 잡음 제거)

  • In this paper, we propose a residual echo and noise reduction scheme for hands-free telephony applications. The proposed algorithm uses a noise robust modified AP algorithm which estimate well echo path in noisy and whitens residual echo signal using linear prediction at non double-talk duration. It is confirmed that the proposed algorithm shows better performance from acoustic interference cancellation (AIC) viewpoint.

  • The system in which a microphone and a loudspeaker are simultaneously used can cause an echo. The echo is caused by feedback between the output of the loudspeaker and the input of the microphone. The acoustic echo canceller is a device to cancel the echo in a communication system. Its general procedure for cancellation is first estimating the plant response of the feedback path and then eliminating the feedback signal from the input signal. In this paper, full-band and sub-band approaches are compared by using some simulation examples.
