1.8m 망원경을 이용한 방출선 천체 연구 (EMISSION LINE SPECTROSCOPY WITH THE 1.8M OPTICAL TELESCOPE)

  • The emission line objects such as planetary nebulae, symbiotics, gaseous nebulae, HII regions, novae, supernovae, SNRs, nearby spiral galaxies, dIrr, dE, and nearby active galactic nuclei, would be goldmines for us to dig with the 1.8m bohyunsan optical (BOAO) telescope. We discussed the importance of strategically important diagnostic lines and atomic constant calculation for a study of Galactic and extragalactic emission objects. The scientific background on a spectrometer development history is briefly presented and spectroscopic research areas other than the emission objects are also summarized.

High Resolution Optical Spectra of HBC 722

  • We present the results of high resolution (R>35,000) optical spectroscopic monitoring observations of a new FU Orionis-like young stellar object, HBC 722. We observed HBC 722 with the Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) and Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) since November 26, 2010. HBC 722 is the FU Orionis-like object best characterized for the pre-outburst phase, and it provides the first opportunity to profile the burst phase of accretion across all wavelengths. We detected a number of lines such as $H{\alpha}$, $H{\beta}$, Fe II ${\lambda}$ 5018, Mg I ${\lambda}$ 5183, Na I D doublets, and metallic photospheric lines. In this work, we focus on the time variations of those spectral lines to understand the accretion process of HBC 722.

A Possible Cause for the Cool Homopause of the 8-micron North Polar Hot Spot of Jupiter

  • We have found cool homopause temperatures (Kim et al. 2016) of 180 - 250 K for the 8-micron North Polar Hot Spot (8NPHS) of Jupiter, which has been observed to be stationary at 180 deg (SysIII) longitude since the early 1980s. The 3-micron spectro-images of Jupiter that we analyzed were obtained with GNIRS, Gemini Near-Infrared Spectrograph at Gemini North on January 13, 2013(UT), and at $8{\mu}m$ on Feburary 6, 2013(UT) with TEXES, the Texas Echelon Cross Echelle Spectrograph at the NASA IRTF. The cool homopause was unexpected, and a possible implication of the relatively cool 8NPHS homopause compared with those of other auroral regions will be presented.

  • A CCD camera for the BOES (Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph) has been developed. The camera consists of a 2048 ${\times}$ 4096 format CCD, a SDSU Gen-I CCD controller, and a continuous flow cryostat (CFC) designed by the ESO. In order to control the CCD under SDSU Gen-I controller, the voltage level of all the biases and clocks were lowered by -6V. The CFC showed cooling time of about 10 hour, after which the chip temperature settled down with variation less than ${\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The final chip temperature is around -105$^{\circ}C$ with the setting value for the CFC as -170$^{\circ}C$.

HIGH RESOLUTION NEAR-INFRARED SPECTRA OF NEARBY QUASAR, PG1426+015

  • We observed low-z quasar PG1426+015 (z=0.086), using the near-IR high resolution echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. Using an Adoptive Optics system, the full width at half maximum of the point spread function was about 0.3 arcsec, which can effectively separate the quasar spectra from the host galaxy spectra. We also maximize the total exposure time up to several hours per target, and develop data reduction methods to increase the signal-to-noise ratios. This poster presents the data reduction processes and sample spectra from the quasar and its host galaxy. These spectral lines will be used to study the physical mechanism of quasars, and the velocity dispersions of the stars in the bugle of the host galaxy.

Near-Infrared Spectra of Super Star Clusters in M82

  • We observed selected super cluster regions in M82 with 5'5 arcsec field-of-view using near-IR high resolution echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. The slit width of 0.15 arcsec makes the high resolution (R ${\approx}$ 20,000) spectra in the H and K bands. In this poster, we present sample spectra of [FeII] lines and ro-vibration lines of $H_2$ which trace ionic shocks in the intercloud regions and molecular shocks. The line widths of $Br{\gamma}$ line are also measured to derive the velocity dispersion within the super star clusters.

Spectral Analysis of SN 2011fe in M101 and Implications for Explosion Mechanism

  • We present some results of the spectral analysis for Type Ia supernova SN 2011fe in M101, which was discovered by the Palomar Transient Factory on August 24 2011 UT. We performed spectroscopic observations for SN 2011fe at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory with the high resolution echelle spectrograph BOES attached to 1.8-m reflector. Spectra of 18 epochs are obtained from September 6 2011 to April 1 2012 UT. Spectral feature variations for several significant lines and explosion mechanism will be discussed.

A novel and simple higher order shear deformation theory for stability and vibration of functionally graded sandwich plate

  • In this work, a new higher shear deformation theory (HSDT) is developed for the free vibration and buckling of functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates. The proposed theory presents a new displacement field by using undetermined integral terms. Only four unknowns are employed in this theory, which is less than the classical first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and others HSDTs. Equations of motion are obtained via Hamilton's principle. The analytical solutions of FG sandwich plates are determined by employing the Navier method. A good agreement between the computed results and the available solutions of existing HSDTs is found to prove the accuracy of the developed theory.

보현산천문대 고분산 편광 분광기 개념 설계 (CONCEPTUAL DESIGN STUDY OF THE BOES STOKESMETER)

  • We plan to install the polarimetric optics in the AGU(acqusition and guiding unit) of the 1.8 m telescope at the BOAO(Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory). With this, the spectropolarimetric observations with the resolution of 45,000 and 60,000 in 4,000 to $8,000{\AA}$ ange could be done by the BOES(BOao Echelle Spectrograph). If we use the precision radial velocity measurement capability of the BOES, the accuracy of the magnetic field intensity measurements with this new BOES stokesmeter will be much increased. We present here the design concept of the BOES stokesmeter. Some details on the optics, mechanical parts, fiber parts and the lab test procedures of this stokesmeter are explained.

타이탄의 고분산 스펙트럼 (HIGH RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPY OF TITAN)

  • We have carried out the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of Titan using BOES (Bohyunsan Echelle Spectrometer) to establish a standard spectral atlas of Titan. The observations were made on November 3, 4, 16 and 17, 2003 using a 300 11m fiber optics with a spectral resolving power of 30,000. The spectral atlas will be served as a reference for the future spectroscopic researches of Titan and other planetary objects. We were able to confirm $CH_4$ absorption lines of the Kuiper bands, and find unidentified lines near $7500{\AA}$.
