  • E.coli methionyl tRNA synthetase consist of 676 amino acids and plays a key role in initiation of protein synthesis. The native form of this enzyme is a homodimer, but the monomeric enzyme truncated approximately C-terminal 120 amino acids retains the full enzymatic activities. X-ray crystal structure of the active monomeric enzyme shows that it has two domains. The N-terminal domain is thought to be a binding site for acceptor stem of tRNA, ATP, and methionine. The C-terminal domain is mainly a-helical and makes an interaction with the anticodon of $tRNA^{Met}$. Especially it is suggested that the region of helix-loop-helix including the tryptophan residue at the position 461 may be the essential for the interaction with anticodon of $tRNA^{Met}$. In this work the structure and function of E. coli methionyl-tRNA synthetase was studied by spectroscopic method (NMR, CD, Fluorescence). The importance of tryptophan residue at the position 461 was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. Tryptophan 461 is expected to be an essential site for the interaction between E. coli methionyl-tRNA synthetase and E. coli $tRNA^{Met}$. Proton and heteonuclear 2-dimensional NMR spectroscopy were also used to elucidate the protein-tRNA interaction.

  • With the growing complexity of the U.S. health care system, highly motivated medical directors with strong leadership skills are vital to the success of health care facilities. Presently, there are no articles assessing a plastic surgeon's qualifications for the role of medical director. In addition, there is a paucity of literature comparing the responsibilities of medical directors across various types of health care institutions. Herein, we outline why plastic surgeons have the unique skillset to succeed in this role and highlight the differences between medical director positions across the vast landscape of health care. While the intricacies of this position vary greatly across different landscapes of the health care industry, successful medical directors lead by following a set of universal principles predisposing them for success. Plastic surgeons innately exhibit a subset of particular traits deeming them suitable candidates for the medical director position. While transitioning from the role of a surgeon to that of a medical director does require some show of adaptation, plastic surgeons are ultimately highly likely to find intrinsic benefit from serving as a medical director.

  • We present the frame synchronization scheme using the FFT window position restoration algorithm appropriate for wireless OFDM systems under multipath fading environment. From the restoration of the synchronization parameters of previous several frames, the algorithm can extract the synchronization parameters for the next frames. To analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compare the probability of synchronization failure under time and frequency domains, respectively. From the simulation results, one can see that the algorithm in the time domain shows better performance than in the frequency one, for the $E_b/N_o$ of 6.0dB or more.

  • The external quality factor ($Q_e$) is controlled by coupling condition between resonator and input/output ports in design of microwave filter. In this paper, we represent extracting method of external quality factor using phase response for resonator with input/output ports according to position of feed line from microstrip line resonator. The results regarding to position, coupling gap and line width for tapped line and coupled line structure are represented, and we got the exact $Q_e$ value from the this method. This results will be applied to coupled resonator filter design.

  • This paper describes the impulse response characteristics of the grounding systems in power utility system. Several regulations regarding to electric power equipments, services and managements require that the groundings of class 1 ($E_1$) and class 2 ($E_2$) must be connected at the common point in grounding systems. In addition, the grounding for arrester ($E_{LA}$), which belongs to the grounding of class 1, should be connected at the same point. However, there is no method and position of common-connection at anywhere. In this work, when the impulse current was injected through the grounding conductor for arrester, the investigations measuring and analyzing potential rises induced at the common connection point and other grounding conductors were conducted. The experiments were carried out in the conditions of the grounding conductor of 25m long and the near or remote common connection from ground electrode. The lightning impulse current was applied so as to simulate the on-set of arrester due to lightning and/or switching surges.

  • Based on the Results of Marine Meteorological and Oceanographical Observations during 1966∼1987 and the Ten-day Marine Report during 1970∼1989 by Japan Meteorological Agency, the possible area where the Japan Sea Proper Water (JSPW) can be formed is investigated by analyzing the distribution of water types in the Japan Sea. The Japan Sea can be divided into three subareas of Northern Cold Water(NCW), Polar Front(PF) and Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) by the Polar Front identified by a 6℃ isothermal line at the sea surface in vinter. Mean position of the Polar Front is approximately parallel to the latitude 39∼40。N. The standard deviation of the Polar Front from the mean position of about 130km width is the smallest in the region between 136。E and 138。E where the Polar Front is very stable, because the branches of the Tsushima Current are converging in this region. However, standard deviations are about 180∼250km near the Korean peninsula and the Tsugaru Strait due to greater variability of warm currents. In the NCW area north of 40∼30。N and west of 138。E, the water types of the sea surface to the loom depth are similar to those of the JSPW. This fact indicates that the surface layer of the NCW area is the possible region of the JSPW formation in winter.

  • The position fixing is the first essential in any offshore activity. At sea, position is almost always related to fixed points on land. The traditional method of the position fixing of a vessel is by double horizontal sextant angles observed between three fixed stations, plotted as a graphical resection using station pointers. Of recent, offshore fixing progresses in simple object of navigation and fishery, and it is tending to use and develop ocean and coast compositly. Therefore, we compared and analyzed deviation of fixed point for more accurate offshore fixing. This paper used only navigation instruments such as NNSS, Loran-C, Omega involved in long range and world wide among the methods of E. P. F. (Electromagnetic Position Fixing).

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of e position change upon reported discomfort and bleeding complications during bed rest following a liver biopsy. Methods: The research design for this study was a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design. Twenty-nine participants were assigned to the treatment group and twenty seven participants were in the comparison group. Following the biopsy, the treatment group participants had a position change from the supine without compression for two hours followed by compressive right lateral position for two hours. The comparison group maintained continuously the compressive right lateral position with sandbag for four hours. Results: There were statistically significant differences in reported discomfort between the treatment and comparison groups following the intervention. No significant differences were found in bleeding complications between the two groups. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that the positional change is an effective nursing intervention in reducing discomfort without risk of bleeding following a liver biopsy.

  • Handles on objects are very important to increase the safety and efficiency of manual handling of people who use them. In this study, four different prototype cartons combined with auxiliary handles were designed to determine the optimal handle position of cartons through the evaluation of user preferences. Twenty male students are participated in the experiment. Likert-5 point summated rating method was applied to evaluate the user preferences for provided handles of the carton among upper, middle, and lower position under the four different sizes and materials handling conditions(carrying positions). The results show that the subjects preferred upper part of the handle on the small cartons regardless of the carrying positions while upper and middle parts of the handle on the big cartons for handling above the waist height were preferred. An optimal handle position depending on the different sizes of carton and the different carrying positions were recommended based on the results of evaluation. It is thus recommended that the cartons provide handles on its relevant position depending on the size and materials handling condition to reduce the musculoskeletal stress and in turn to increase the user satisfaction.

  • This paper investigates a relationship between a market position of a venture capitalist(i.e.,VC) and its subsequent performance. Although a VC firm may perform better if it occupies a narrow niche(e.g.,specialist), which allows the firm to attain deep insider knowledge and build an identity as an industry expert, a firm may perform better if it has a broader niche(e.g.,generalist), which gives the firm access to more diverse information and opportunities and to effectively spread out potential risks. Given that accesses to valuable information and chances are critical for success in venture capital industry, we hypothesize that venture capitalists with broad niche width are more likely to grow in the future and analyze 26-year data on US venture capital industry. We found that, in general, a firm can enjoy the advantage of having a broad niche. However, the return to having a broad niche varies depending on its status within the market: a return greater for low- status than high-status VC firms. Our finding suggests that explorative efforts may be more rewarding for low-status VC firms.
