Comparison of results from two different methods of soil-structure dynamic interaction analysis is presented. Two methods include transfromed static and seismic response analyes. In seismic response analysis, the difference in result of total stress analysis relative to effective stress analysis is investigated.
Under the rapid change of a new vehicle model, it is necessary to develop a durability analysis technique using computer simulation. In order to do this. reliable dynamic stress-time history for the vehicle components must be calculated on various road conditions. In this paper, a full vehicle simulation model which is composed of flexible frame and chassis components is proposed and verified its reliability from the comparison with field test data. Finally, dynamic stress-time history on the rear chassis components is predicted with hybrid and modal superposition method.

The static and dynamic structural integrity qualification was performed through the seismic analysis of a small-size Savonius-type vertical wind turbine at dead weight plus wind load and seismic loads. The ANSYS finite element program was used to develop the FEM model of the wind turbine and to accomplish static, modal, and dynamic frequency response analyses. The stress of the wind turbine structure for each wind load and dead weight was calculated and combined by taking the square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS) to obtain static stresses. Seismic response spectrum analysis was also carried out in the horizontal (X and Y) and vertical (Z) directions to determine the response stress distribution for the required response spectrum (RRS) at safe-shutdown earthquake with a 5% damping (SSE-5%) condition. The stress resulting from the seismic analysis in each of the three directions was combined with the SRSS to yield dynamic stresses. These static and dynamic stresses were summed by using the same SRSS. Finally, this total stress was compared with the allowable stress design, which was calculated based on the requirements of the KBC 2009, KS C IEC 61400-1, and KS C IEC 61400-2 codes.

The dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIF ; $K_{I}$$^{dyn}$) were studied in some polymeric materials using caustics method with a high speed camera system. Also crack tip propagation speed was measured by dynamic crack propagation velocity measuring device. To calculate DSIF a finite element analysis program-INha Stress Analysis Moving CRack(INSAMCR) was utilized. Dynamic fracture characteristics were investigated to verify a relationship between DSIF and crack tip propagation speed and acceleration in PMMA, Homalite-100 and Polycarbonate. The relationship between dynamic stress intensity factor and crack tip velocity revealed typical shapes. Measured crack tip acceleration data envelope converges to the zero level with increasing DSIF. Equivalently crack tip velocities show a wide spread range at low values of DSIF, but become a constant with a higher DSIF. $1.2MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, $1.4MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ and $1.3 MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ were obtained as $K_{I}$$^{dyn}$ values to arrest the dynamic crack for PMMA, Homalite-100 and Polycarbonate, respectively. INSAMCR was run to verify experimental results in PMMA and shows good agreementment.

The OHT(Over Head Transportation) Vehicle transports heavy products quickly and repeatedly at the industrial workplace. The belt in the OHT vehicle is used to support the weight of the OHT Cage. The fatigue of the belt is caused by the dynamic load during the operation time. Since the fatigue fracture of the belt affects the safety at the workplace, the correct prediction of the dynamic load is necessary to calculate the fatigue life of the belt on the design step. In this paper a computer aided analysis method is proposed for the belt in the early design stage using dynamic analysis, stress analysis, belt tensile test, belt fatigue test and fatigue lift prediction method. From the dynamic load time histories and the stress of the belt FE model, a dynamic stress time history is produced. Using linear damage law and cycle counting method, fatigue life cycle is calculated. The method developed in this paper is used to reduce the time and cost for designing the OHT belt in different environment and condition.
Considering the effect of dynamic response amplification, a reliability analysis of an offshore wind turbine support structure under an earthquake is presented. A reliability analysis based on the dynamic response requires a large amount of time when using not only a level 3 approach but also level 2 such as a first order reliability method (FORM). Moreover, if a limit state is defined by using the maximum stress at a structural joint where stress concentration occurs, a three-dimensional element should be used in the finite element analysis. This makes the computational load much heavier. To deal with this kind of problem, two techniques are suggested in this paper. One is the application of a quasi-static structural analysis that takes the dynamic amplification effect into account. The other is the use of a stress concentration factor to estimate the maximum local stress. The proposed reliability analysis is performed using a level 2 FORM and verified using a level 3 simulation approach.

Researches on the FRF-based substructuring method have been mainly focused on vibratory response analysis. Present study Is concerned about the application of the method to the dynamic stress analysis of a air-conditioner compressor mounting bracket in a passenger car. This is performed by using reaction forces that can be obtained by the FRF-based substructuring method. The air-conditioner system, composed of a compressor and bracket, Is analyzed by using the FRF-based substructuring method. The experimental and numerical FRFs are combined to calculate the system responses and reaction forces at the connection point. The dynamic reaction forces plugged into the bracket FE model to compute the stresses of the bracket Dynamic strains by the present method are compared with those from strain-gage test for bracket system on shaker. The comparison shows possibility of practical usage of the method for the real problem

Structural components subjected to high frequency vibrations, such as those used in vibrating parts of gas turbine engines, are usually required to avoid resonance frequencies. Generally, the operating frequency is designed at more than resonance frequencies. When a vibrating structure starts or stops, the structure has to pass through a resonance frequency, which results in large stress concentration. This paper presents the transient thermoelastic stress analysis of vibrating cantilever beam using infrared thermography and finite element method (FEM). In FEM, stress concentration factor at the 2nd resonance vibration mode is calculated by the mode superposition method of ANSYS. In experiment, stress distributions are investigated with infrared thermography and dynamic stress concentration factor is estimated. Experimental result is agreed with FEM result within 10.6%. The advantage of this technique is a better immunity to contact problem and geometric limitation in stress analysis of small or micro structures.

This paper describes the dynamic shock effects on the pretensioned concrete member by the detensioning using finite element analysis. The investigation was performed by linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis. In nonlinear dynamic analysis, Brittle Cracking Model was applied for concrete behavior. It was shown that the amplitude of stress wave was significantly decreased when time for cutting of tendon was above 0.05sec. The maximum stress values obtained from linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis was nearly same. However, the position forthe maximum tensile stresses were different.

The modified couple stress-based third-order shear deformation theory is presented for sigmoid functionally graded materials (S-FGM) plates. The advantage of the modified couple stress theory is the involvement of only one material length scale parameter which causes to create symmetric couple stress tensor and to use it more easily. Analytical solution for dynamic instability analysis of S-FGM plates on elastic medium is investigated. The present models contain two-constituent material variation through the plate thickness. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's energy principle. The governing equations are then written in the form of Mathieu-Hill equations and then Bolotin's method is employed to determine the instability regions. The boundaries of the instability regions are represented in the dynamic load and excitation frequency plane. It is assumed that the elastic medium is modeled as Pasternak elastic medium. The effects of static and dynamic load, power law index, material length scale parameter, side-to-thickness ratio, and elastic medium parameter have been discussed. The width of the instability region for an S-FGM plate decreases with the decrease of material length scale parameter. The study is relevant to the dynamic simulation of micro structures embedded in elastic medium subjected to intense compression and tension.
