A neuro-fuzzy algorithm is presented for nuclear reactor power control in a pressurized water reactor. Automatic reacotr power control is complicated by the use of control rods because of highly nonlinear dynamics in the axial power shape. Thus, manual shaped controls are usually employed even for the limited capability during the power maneuvers. In an attempt to achieve automatic shape control, a neuro-fuzzy approach is considered because fuzzy algorithms are good at various aspects of operator's knowledge representation while neural networks are efficinet structures capable of learning from experience and adaptation to a changing nuclear core state. In the proposed neuro-fuzzy control scheme, the rule base is formulated based ona multi-input multi-output system and the dynamic back-propagation is used for learning. The neuro-fuzzy powere control algorithm has been tested using simulation fesponses of a Korean standard pressurized water reactor. The results illustrate that the proposed control algorithm would be a parctical strategy for automatic nuclear reactor power control.
Solenoid valve has used in various industrial field extensively. A solenoid valve has different size, shape and method of operation accordantly to industrial field. Many researchers study on kinds of solenoid valve such as flow rate, dynamic, magnetic field, valve shape and operating method. But the flow rate characteristic and dynamic response time performance on the diaphragm valve are not studied. This paper describes the flow rate characteristic and dynamic response time performance on the diaphragm valve. At first, the diaphragm valve is simulated in AMESim simulation tool. AMESim model found that an effect of valve performance depends on parameter. The parameter is the diaphragm orifice area. And the performance test bench confirms the effect in this parameter. Finally, it finds out the flow rate characteristic and dynamic response time performance on the diaphragm valve.
This paper experimentally demonstrates the feasibility of using shape memory alloy(SMA) actuators in controlling structural vibrations of a flexible cantilevered beam. The dynamic characteristics of the SMA actuator are identified and integrated with the beam dynamics. Three types of control schemes; constant amplitude controller(CAC), proportional amplitude controller (PAC) and sliding mode controller(SMC) are designed. The CAC and PAC are determined on the basis of physical phenomenon of the SMA actuator, while teh SMC is formulated in a mathematical manner. The proposed controllers are implemented and evaluated at various operating condirions by investigating the control level of suppression in transient vibration.
This paper presents vibration and position tracking control of a smart structure using shape memory alloy(SMA) actuators. A governing equation of motion of the proposed structure is obtained via Hamilton's princeple. The dynamic characteristics of the SMA actuator are experimentally identified and incorporated with the governing equation to furnish a control system model. Subsequently, a sliding mode controller which has inherent robustness to external disturbances is formulated on the basis of the sliding mode conplacement, and also for the position tracking control of desired trajectories with low-frequency sine and square waves.
An indoor package air-conditioner (PAC) has complex noise sources such as motor noise and fluid noise caused by the fan motor, heat transfer and shroud. Sound intensity techniques and ODS(Operational deflection shape) techniques are applied to identify the noise characteristics of an indoor air-conditioner's cabinet. The sound intensity is used to visualize the noise source locations. and the ODS to visualize the vibration pattern and to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the noise source. Acoustic intensity and operational deflection distribution are obtained in space domains as well as frequency domains. Using the visual information of source locations and its dynamic characteristics, the damping patch is applied to reduce structure borne noise in the cabinet. As a result, the noise emitted by the cabinet is reduced by 5dB.
This study presents stiffness-based optimal design to control quantitatively lateral drift of frame-shear wall structures subject to seismic loads. To this end, lateral drift constraints are established by introducing approximation concept that preserves the generality of the mathematical programming and can efficiently solve large scale problems. Also, the relationships of sectional properties are established to reduce the number of design variables and resizing technique of member is developed under the 'constant-shape' assumption. Specifically, the methodology of dynamic displacement sensitivity analysis is developed to formulate the approximated lateral displacement constraints. The 12 story frame-shear wall structural models is considered to illustrate the features of dynamic stiffness-based optimal design technique proposed in this study.
This paper describes the real-time implementation of an adaptive controller fur the robotic manipulator. Digital signal processors(DSPs) are special purpose micro-processors that are particularly powerful for intensive numerical computations involving sums and products of variables. TMS320C50 chips are used in implementing real time adaptive control algorithms to provide an enhanced motion for robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from the improved Lyapunov second stability analysis based on the direct adaptive control theory. The adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feedforward controller and feedback controller. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a assembling robot.
This paper presents passive vibration control method to suppress train-induced vibration on a long-span steel arch bridge. According to the train load frequency analysis, undesirable resonance of a bridge will occur when the impact frequency of the train axles are close to the modal frequencies of the bridge. Because the first mode shape of the long-span steel arch bridge may take anti-symmetric shape along the bridge direction, however, the optimal control configuration for resonance suppression should be considered carefully In this study, bridge-vehicle element is used to estimate the bridge-train interaction precisely. From the numerical simulation of a loom steel arch bridge under TGV-K train loading, dynamic magnification influences are evaluated according to vehicle moving speed and efficient control system with passive dampers are presented in order to diminish the vertical displacement and vertical acceleration.
Vibrations of a wind turbine blade have a negative impact on its performance and result in failure of the blade, therefore an approach to effectively control vibration in turbine blades are sought by wind industry. The small domestic horizontal axis wind turbine blades induce flap wise (out-of-plane) vibration, due to varying wind speeds. These flap wise vibrations are transferred to the structure, which even causes catastrophic failure of the system. Shape memory alloys which possess physical property of variable stiffness across different phases are embedded into the composite blades for active vibration control. Previously Shape memory alloys have been used as actuators to change their angles and orientations in fighter jet blades but not used for active vibration control for wind turbine blades. In this work a GFRP blade embedded with Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) and tested for its vibrational and material damping characteristics, under martensitic and austenite conditions. The embedment portrays 47% reduction in displacement of blade, with respect to the conventional blade. An analytical model for the actuated smart blade is also proposed, which validates the harmonic response of the smart blade.
This paper demonstrates the feasibility of utilizing Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) actuators in controlling the motion of micro active catherer. The dynamic behavior of SMA is obtained by several experiments for the design of the controller. Two different type of structures which realize catheter are proposed. Each prototype of micro active catherer is fabricated, and its control performance which used the designed controller is investigated. The results obtained show the potential of the SMA as viable means for actuating the micro active catheter.
