  • In this paper, we propose quality of service mechanisms for flow-based routers which have to handle several million flows at wire speed in high-speed networks. Traffic management mechanisms are proposed for guaranteed traffic and non-guaranteed traffic separately, and then the effective harmonization of the two mechanisms is introduced for real networks in which both traffic types are mixed together. A simple non-work-conserving fair queuing algorithm is proposed for guaranteed traffic, and an adaptive flow-based random early drop algorithm is proposed for non-guaranteed traffic. Based on that basic architecture, we propose a dynamic traffic identification method to dynamically prioritize traffic according to the traffic characteristics of applications. In a high-speed router system, the dynamic traffic identification method could be a good alternative to deep packet inspection, which requires handling of the IP packet header and payload. Through numerical analysis, simulation, and a real system experiment, we demonstrate the performance of the proposed mechanisms.

  • The next generation cellular wireless communication systems require high data rate transmissions and large system capacities. In order to meet these requirements, multiple antennas can be used at the base and mobile stations, forming MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) channels. This paper proposes a MIMO SDMA(Space Division Multiple Access) technique with dynamic slot allocation which allows the transmitter to efficiently transmit parallel data streams to each of multiple receivers. The proposed technique can increase system capacities significantly by transmitting a larger number of data streams than conventional MIMO techniques while minimizing the performance degradation due to the beamforming dimension reduction.

  • We present a method of runtime configuration scheduling in reconfigurable SoC design. As a model of computation, we use a popular formal model of computation, hierarchical FSM (HFSM) with synchronous dataflow (SDF) model, in short, HFSM-SDF model. In reconfigurable SoC design with HFSM-SDF model, the problem of configuration scheduling becomes challenging due to the dynamic behavior of the system such as concurrent execution of state transitions (by AND relation), complex control flow (HFSM), and complex schedules of SDF actor firing. This makes it hard to hide configuration latency efficiently with compile-time static configuration scheduling. To resolve the problem, it is necessary to know the exact order of required configurations during runtime and to perform runtime configuration scheduling. To obtain the exact order of configurations, we exploit the inherent property of HFSM-SDF that the execution order of SDF actors can be determined before executing the state transition of top FSM. After obtaining the order information and storing it in the ready configuration queue (ready CQ), we execute the state transition. During the execution, whenever there is FPGA resource available, a new configuration is selected from the ready CQ and fetched by the runtime configuration scheduler. We applied the method to an MPEG4 decoder and IS95 design and obtained up to 21.8% improvement in system runtime with a negligible overhead of memory usage.

  • Recently, according to the rapid increase of Web users, various kinds of Web applications have been being developed. Hence, Web QoS(Quality of Service) becomes a critical issue in the Web services, such as e-commerce, Web hosting, etc. Nevertheless, most Web servers currently process various requests from Web users on a FIFO basis, which can not provide differentiated QoS. This paper presents a load balancing method to provide differentiated Web QoS in clustering web server. The first is the kernel-level approach, which is adding a real-time scheduling process to the operating system kernel to maintain the priority of user requests determined by the scheduling process of Web server. The second is the load-balancing approach, which uses IP-level masquerading and tunneling technology to improve reliability and response speed upon user requests. The third is the dynamic load-balancing approach, which uses the parameters related to the MIB-II of SNMP and the parameters related to load of the system such as memory and CPU.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for scheduling jobs in soft real-time systems. To simplify the scheduling for soft real-time systems, we introduce two-level deadline scheme. Each job in the system has two deadlines, which we call first-level and second-level deadlines, respectively. The first-level deadline is the same as the deadline in traditional real-time systems. The second-level deadline is later than the first-level deadline, and defines the latest point in time when the result is still acceptable. Partial-credit is given for jobs meeting the second-level deadline but missing the first-level deadline, whereas jobs meeting the latter are given full credit. We heuristically compute priorities of jobs in a dynamic way by combining the first-level adn second-level deadlines with the partial-credit. Simulation results indicate that our two-level scheduling algorithm is a viable approach for dealing with both soft real-time systems and temporary overloaded hard real-time systems.

  • In this paper, we present a co-design methodology of dynamic optimal network-bandwidth allocation (ONBA) and adaptive control for networked control systems (NCSs) to optimize overall control performance and reduce total network-bandwidth usage. The proposed dynamic co-design strategy integrates adaptive feedback control with real-time scheduling. As part of this co-design methodology, a "closed-loop" ONBA algorithm for NCSs with communication constraints is presented. Network-bandwidth is dynamically assigned to each control loop according to the quality of performance (QoP) information of each control loop. As another part of the co-design methodology, a network quality of service (QoS)-adaptive control design approach is also presented. The idea is based on calculating new control values with reference to the network QoS parameters such as time delays and packet losses measured online. Simulation results show that this co-design approach significantly improves overall control performance and utilizes less bandwidth compared to static strategies.

  • In recent years, the driver needs the convenience of their vehicles and that there is an increasing requirement. Many researches have been mainly focused on MOST Networks to provide quality of multimedia service. The MOST network to support different bandwidth(MOST 25, MOST 50, MOST 150) should consist of a heterogeneous network. So the networks to used different protocols required gateway for receive and transmit information. The method to used gateway has problems occured loss of a packet by a lot of delay. Therefore in this paper, we propose a MOST GATEWAY system for organically connected to the network MOST150 and MOST 25. After analyzing the performance of the existing scheduling algorithm, we will present an improvement scheme of the efficiency and scalability.

  • As the distributed power system with PV and ESS is highlighted to be one of the most prominent structure to replace the traditional electric power system, power flow scheduling is expected to bring better system efficiency. Optimal energy management system (EMS) where the power from PV and the grid is managed in time-domain using ESS needs an optimization process. In this paper, main optimization method is implemented using dynamic programming (DP). To overcome the drawback of DP in which ideal future information is required, prediction stage precedes every EMS execution. A simple auto-regressive moving-average (ARMA) forecasting followed by a PI-controller updates the prediction data. Assessment of the on-line optimal EMS scheme has been evaluated on several cases.

  • Today, more and more information is processed in the shop floor The main function of the shop floor is more enlarged and enriched by the integration of information processing tasks. So, we have designed the shop floor control information system(SFCIS) considered using the IDEF methodology. The SFCIS consists of 5 sub-systems, which are the manufacturing data base, the order release, the dynamic scheduling, the process control, and the output analysis sub-system. And we have constructed the SFCIS for long-cycle products, which have production lead time longer than the period of production planning horizon.

  • A shop floor can be considered as and importand level to develop a Computer Integrated Manufacturing system (CIMs). The shop foor is a dynamic environment where unexpected events contrinuously occur, and impose changes to planned activities. The shop floor should adopt an appropriate control system that is responsible for scheduling coordination and moving the manufacturing material and information flow. In this paper, the architecture of the hybrid control model identifies three levels; i.e., the shop floor controller (SFC), the cell controller(CC) and the equipment controller (EC). The methodology for developing these controller is employ an object-oriented approach for static models and IDEF0 for function models for dispatching a job. SFC and CC are coordinated by employing a multi-factors bidding and an adapted Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) prove applicability of the suggested method. Test experiment has been conducted by with the shopfloor, consisting of six manufacturing cells.
