Fabrication Scheduling of Products with Common and Unique Components at a Single Facility (공통 및 고유부품으로 구성되는 제품의 부품공급을 위한 단일설비 일정계획)

  • This paper considers a single facility scheduling problem for the fabrication of components supporting the subsequent assembly into products. Each product consists of two types of components, one is common to all products and the other is unique to itself. The unique components are processed individually and the common components are processed in batches, and a distinct setup is incurred for the production of a batch of common components. Under the so-called “batch availability” environment, we propose an efficient dynamic programming(DP) procedure for the optimal sequencing and batching schedule with minimum total completion times of products in the situation that each product is said to be complete if both common and unique components of the product are finished. Computational results show that the proposed DB procedure is more efficient than the previous work which has considered the same problem as this paper.

  • Recently, SCM(Supply Chain Management) embraces the dynamic environmental changes of the participatory bodies in supply chain. Under this dynamic SCM environment, the selection of supplier and outsourcing company is very important. In their selection, the productivity and expertise of suppliers and outsourcing companies are, of course, to be considered as important factors, but whether or nottheycanmeettheduedateisacritical factor. In particular, this is true because an order-based manufacture ought to have CTP(Capable To Promise). For this purpose, by capitalizing onthevirtualmanufactureundertheSCM, this paper has tried to suggest a new agent system for the selection of supplier and outsourcing company. While performing virtual manufacture based on the integration scheduling, this system acquires the production environment and scheduling information of both suppliers and outsourcing companies on a real-timebasis,thusmakingintegrationschedulingpossible. Also, in order to provetheviabilityofthisstudy,thispaper has selected a specific domain and applied it.

  • Cloud computing system consists of distributed resources in a dynamic and decentralized environment. Therefore, using cloud computing resources efficiently and getting the maximum profits are still challenging problems to the cloud service providers and cloud service users. It is important to provide the efficient scheduling. To schedule cloud resources, numerous heuristic algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithms have been adopted. The paper proposes a Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) algorithm to solve the above mentioned issues. We first formulate an optimization problem and propose a Modified PSO optimization technique. The performance of MPSO was evaluated against PSO, and GA. Our experimental results show that the proposed MPSO minimizes the task execution time, and maximizes the resource utilization rate.

  • In wireless environments, it is very effective to introduce a data broadcast system for providing a number of clients with mobile data services. In particular, an efficient broadcast scheduling and a caching strategy are very important for performance of data broadcast systems in wireless environments which have such inherent restrictions as low bandwidth, frequent disconnections, and short battery life. In this paper, we present a data broadcast scheduling strategy using bit vectors to cope with dynamic request patterns of clients. In addition, we also propose an efficient caching strategy, 2FWT, that takes characteristics of the broadcast scheduling strategy into account. Finally, we evaluate performance of the data broadcast system. According to the results, the proposed system generally shows better performance than others.

  • The Constructive Battle Simulation Model is very important to the recent military training for the substitution of the field training. However, real battlefield systems operate under real-time conditions, they are inherently distributed, concurrent and dynamic. In order to reflect these properties by the computer-based simulation systems which represent real world processes, we have been developing constructive simulation model for several years. Conventionally, scheduling and resource allocation activities which have timing constraints, we elaborated on these issues and developed the simulation system on commercially available hardware and operating system with lock-free resource allocation scheme and rate monotonic scheduling.

  • In most existing distributed Web systems, incoming requests are distributed to servers via Domain Name System (DNS). Although such systems are simple to implement, the address caching mechanism easily results in load unbalancing among servers. Moreover, modification of the DNS is necessary to load considering the server's state. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic load balancing method using dynamic DNS update and round-robin mechanism. The proposed method performs effective load balancing without modification of the DNS. In this method, a server can dynamically be added to or removed from the DNS list according to the server's load. By removing the overloaded server from the DNS list, the response time becomes faster. For dynamic scheduling, we propose a scheduling algorithm that considers the CPU, memory, and network usage. We can select a scheduling policy based on resources usage. The proposed system can easily be managed by a GUI-based management tool. Experiments show that modules implemented in this paper have low impact on the proposed system. Furthermore, experiments show that both the response time and the file transfer rate of the proposed system are faster than those of a pure Round-Robin DNS.

  • In mobile computing environments, data broadcasting is widely used to resolve the problem of limited power and bandwidth of mobile equipments. However, the previous broadcast scheduling methods can be inefficient in the environment where the user requests change dynamically since they are based on static data requests. Moreover, a high-priority user can wait long for infrequently requested data because they never consider the priority of listeners. In this paper, we propose a new broadcast scheduling method that reflects dynamic changes of user requests using user profiles. It also reflects user priorities to reduce the access time of high-priority users. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method through simulation.

Hybrid Scheduling Algorithm based on DWDRR using Hysteresis for QoS of Combat Management System Resource Control

  • In this paper, a hybrid scheduling algorithm is proposed for CMS(Combat Management System) to improve QoS(Quality of Service) based on DWDRR(Dynamic Weighted Deficit Round Robin) and priority-based scheduling method. The main proposed scheme, DWDRR is method of packet transmission through giving weight by traffic of queue and priority. To demonstrate an usefulness of proposed algorithm through simulation, efficiency in special section of the proposed algorithm is proved. Therefore, We propose hybrid algorithm between existing algorithm and proposed algorithm. Also, to prevent frequent scheme conversion, a hysteresis method is applied. The proposed algorithm shows lower packet loss rate and delay in the same traffic than existing algorithm.

  • Automated Guided Vehicles(AGVs) are widely used in computer integrated manufacturing(CIM) systems for material handling purposes. Although automated guided vehicles provide higher levels of flexibility and computer integrability, the installations are limited in number and one of the critical reasons lies in the complexity involved in the operation. The main objective of this research is to alleviate this problem by proposing efficient integrated operational control methods for AGV-based CIM systems. Particularly, this research is concerned with the mixed problem of dispatching automated guided vehicles and scheduling machines operation. The proposed dynamic heuristic algorithm uses various priority schemes and relevant information concerning the load of the system, the status of queues, and the position of AGVs in the scheduling process. The scheduling decision process is hierarchical in the sense that different decision criteria are applied sequentially to identify the most appropriate part to be served. This algorithm consists of two sections, the section of part selection by AGVs for the next service whenever an AGV completes the current assignment, and the section of part selection by machines for next service whenever a machine completes the current operation. The proposed algorithm has been compared with other scheduling schemes using the performance measure of mean flow-time and mean tardiness. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm can reduce the mean flow-time and mean tardiness significantly.
