The effect of column loss location on the structural response of steel moment resisting frames (MRF) is investigated in this study. A series of nonlinear static and dynamic analyses were performed to determine the resistance of a generic frame to an arbitrary column loss and detect the structural members that are susceptible to failure progression beyond that point. Both force-controlled and deformation-controlled actions based on UFC 4-023-03 and ASCE/SEI 41-06 were implemented to define the acceptance criteria for nine APM cases defined in this study. Results revealed that the structural resistance against an arbitrary column loss in the top story is at least 80% smaller than that of the bottom story. In addition, it was found that the dynamic increase factor (DIF) at the failure point is at most 1.13.
A numerical and computer simulation for dynamic stability analysis of graded porous nanoplates has been provided using a Chebyshev-Ritz-Bolotin approach. The nanoplate has been formulated according to the nonlocal elasticity and a 3-unkown plate model capturing neutral surface location. All of material properties are assumed to be dependent of porosity factor which determines the amount or volume of pores. The nano-size plate has also been assumed to be under temperature and moisture variation. It will be shown that stability boundaries of the nanoplate are dependent on static and dynamical load factors, porosity factor, temperature variation and nonlocal parameter.
The purpose of this study is to find the basic design factors that affect the changes in body surface lines caused by lower limb movements, thereby resulting in slacks that fit well regardless of whether the human form is static or in motion. Using unmarried female university students aged 18-24 as subjects, a total of 32 body surface lines (15 body surface total lines and 17 body surface segment lines) were measured in one static and 9 movement poses, The analysis first involved the calculation of the expansion and contraction rates per body part in body surface line in 9 lower limb movements, Second, a factor analysis was conducted using the expansion and contraction rates of these changes in body surface line. The results of this study are as follows, According to the factor analysis, basic design factors that affect changes in body surface lines comprised 8 types of factors as illustrated in fig, 2-fig, 9, which explained 79.2% of total variate for the variables studied, Factor 1, comprising the lower segment of center back leg line, center front leg line and inner leg line, and lower limb girth except midway thigh girth and ankle girth below hip girth, accounted for 30.3% of total variance, Factor 2, comprising waist girth, the total and upper segment of center back leg line and center tront leg line, and front and back segment of crotch length, explained 17.4% of total variance, Factor 3, the total and upper segment of lateral leg line at the center, accounted for 56.5% of total variance in accordance with Factors 1, 2, and 3, Factor 4 was the contracting upper part of lower leg between legscye girth and midway thigh girth, Factor 5 comprised the total and upper segment of inner leg line and posterior knee girth, Factor 6 was the total crotch length, Factor 7 was the ankle girth, Factor 8 was the abdomen girth.
Studies on dynamic characteristics of the hanger vibration using field monitoring data are important for the design and evaluation of high-speed railway truss arch bridges. This paper presents an analysis of the hanger's dynamic displacement responses based on field monitoring of Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge, which is a high-speed railway truss arch bridge with the longest span throughout the world. The three vibration parameters, i.e., dynamic displacement amplitude, dynamic load factor and vibration amplitude, are selected to investigate the hanger's vibration characteristics in each railway load case including the probability statistical characteristics and coupled vibration characteristics. The influences of carriageway and carriage number on the hanger's vibration characteristics are further investigated. The results indicate that: (1) All the eight railway load cases can be successfully identified according to the relationship of responses from strain sensors and accelerometers in the structural health monitoring system. (2) The hanger's three vibration parameters in each load case in the longitudinal and transverse directions have obvious probabilistic characteristics. However, they fall into different distribution functions. (3) There is good correlation between the hanger's longitudinal/transverse dynamic displacement and the main girder's transverse dynamic displacement in each load case, and their relationships are shown in the hysteresis curves. (4) Influences of the carriageway and carriage number on the hanger's three parameters are different in both longitudinal and transverse directions; while the influence on any of the three parameters presents an obvious statistical trend. The present paper lays a good foundation for the further analysis of train-induced hanger vibration and control.
Based on the dynamic tests of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) short columns confined by the hoop reinforcement, the dynamic failure mechanism and the mechanical parameters related to the constitutive relation of confined recycled aggregate concrete (CRAC) were investigated thoroughly. The fracturing sections were relatively flat and smooth at higher strain rates rather than those at a quasi-static strain rate. With the increasing stirrup volume ratio, the crack mode is transited from splitting crack to slipping crack constrained with large transverse confinement. The compressive peak stress, peak strain, and ultimate strain increase with the increase of stirrup volume ratio, as well as the increasing strain rate. The dynamic confining increase factors of the compressive peak stress, peak strain, and ultimate strain increase by about 33%, 39%, and 103% when the volume ratio of hoop reinforcement is increased from 0 to 2%, but decrease by about 3.7%, 4.2%, and 9.1% when the stirrup spacing is increased from 20mm to 60mm, respectively. This sentence is rephrased as follows: When the stirrup volume ratios are up to 0.675%, and 2%, the contributions of the hoop confinement effect to the dynamic confining increase factors of the compressive peak strain and the compressive peak stress are greater than those of the strain rate effect, respectively. The dynamic confining increase factor (DCIF) models of the compressive peak stress, peak strain, and ultimate strain of CRAC are proposed in the paper. Through the confinement of the hoop reinforcement, the ductility of RAC, which is generally slightly lower than that of NAC, is significantly improved.

A semi-infinite parallel crack propagated with constant velocity in two bonded anisotropic strip under anti-plane clamped displacement is analyzed. Using Fourier integral transform a Wiener-Hopf equation is derived. By solving this equation the asymptotic stress and displacement fields near the crack tip are determined, where the results give the more general expression applicable to the extent of the anisotropic material having one plane of elastic symmetry for the parallel crack. The dynamic stress intensity factor and energy release rate are also obtained as a closed form, which are the results applicable to the problem both of dynamic and static crack under the same geometry as this study. The stress intensity factor approaches zero at the critical crack velocity which is less than the shear wave velocity, but in typical case of isotropic or orthotropic material agrees with the velocity of shear wave. Also a circular shear stress around crack tip is considered, from which the stress is shown to be approximately symmetric about the horizontal axis. Referring to the maximum stress criteria, it could be shown that a brenched crack is formed by crack growth as crack velocity increases.
The compressive and dynamic properties of magnetorheological elastomers were investigated as functions of magnetizable particle volume fraction, alignment of the embedded particle and magnetic force. The specimens consisted of pure and filled silicons with randomly dispersed, longitudinal and transverse aligned magnetizable particle chains. To align the embedded particles in the elastomer, the cross-linking of the elastomer composites took place in a magnetic field. The compression and dynamic tests in the absence and the presence of different magnetic forces were carried out. The modulus and loss factor of the elastomer composites increase with increasing volume fraction at the same magnetic force. The case of longitudinal alignment shows a high modulus and loss factor when compared to the case of transverse alignment or random dispersion.
A dynamic simulation and test of frame with thin walled closed section beams considering warping conditions have been performed. When a beam is subjected under torsional moment, the cross section will deform an warping as well as twist. For some thin-walled sections warping will be large, and accompanying warping restraint will induce axial and shear stresses and reduce the twist of beam which stiffens the beam in torsion. This paper presents that an warping restraint factor in finite element model effects the behavior of beam deformation and dynamic mode shape. The computer modelling of frame is discussed in linear beam element model and linear thin shell element model, also presents a correlation between computer predicted and actual experimental results for static deflection, natural frequencies and mode shapes of frame.
Considering the effect of dynamic response amplification, a reliability analysis of an offshore wind turbine support structure under an earthquake is presented. A reliability analysis based on the dynamic response requires a large amount of time when using not only a level 3 approach but also level 2 such as a first order reliability method (FORM). Moreover, if a limit state is defined by using the maximum stress at a structural joint where stress concentration occurs, a three-dimensional element should be used in the finite element analysis. This makes the computational load much heavier. To deal with this kind of problem, two techniques are suggested in this paper. One is the application of a quasi-static structural analysis that takes the dynamic amplification effect into account. The other is the use of a stress concentration factor to estimate the maximum local stress. The proposed reliability analysis is performed using a level 2 FORM and verified using a level 3 simulation approach.

The present state of the design of swing arm actuators for optical disc drives is to obtain the high efficient dynamic characteristics within a very compact volume. As a necessary consequence, the need of the small form factor (SFF) storage device has been arisen as major interests in the information storage technology. In this paper, we suggest the miniaturized swing arm type actuator that has high efficient dynamic characteristics for SFF optical disk drive (ODD). For the operating mechanism, it uses a tracking electromagnetic (EM) circuit for a focusing motion together. Moreover, due to the size constraint, the thermal stability of optical head is important. Therefore, the actuator is designed to emit the heat, which is generated by optical pick-up, along the actuator body easily. Initial model is designed based on the topology optimization method considering the thermal conductivity. Then, the structural parts of the actuator are modified to maintain the high sensitivity and to have wide control bandwidth by the design of experiments method (DOE) and new concept of decreasing mass and inertia. Finally, a swing arm type actuator for SFF ODD is suggested and its dynamic characteristics are verified.
