  • Transfer printing is a method to combine printing and dyeing technology by the use of sublimation. It is an environmentally-friendly printing method that saves costs, reduces the production processes by the omission of the washing process, and saves time by maintaining quality. Due to the development of transfer printing, a high value added printing technology is available now but color fastness to sublimation of the printing products is still low since there are few dyes that have an affinity to the fabrics and the application technology is still inadequate. Specially, in case of high concentration black dyes, eco-label type black dyes, which is a substitution for general dispersal dyes, have been developed while general dispersal black dyes are still used, creating issues such as color differences on the surface and back side of the fabrics and contamination by friction after transfer printing. There are also some restricted substances such as allergens. To address these issues, high concentration black dyes and application technology that are environmentally-friendly and that have over 16 K/S through the use of single dyes with excellent color fastness, fixation ability, and similar melting temperature were developed for this study.

Continuous Biodegradation of Reactive Dyes by Aspergillus sojae B-10 (Aspergillus sojae B-10에 의한 반응성 염료의 탈색조건)

  • Dyes are released into the environment from industrial wasterwater. They are considered to be a pollution problem because of the wide spread into environment with a variety of colors. In order to biological treatment of industrial dyes waste water, biodegradation of reactive dyes such as Rifacion Red H-3EB, Rifazol Blue BT, Rifacion Yellow P-4G and Rifacion Brown RT were carried out decolorized by Aspergillus sojae B-10. Aspergillus sojae B-10 showed the almost completely biodegradation ability when it was cultivated in a 2.0% glucose, 0.06% sodium nitrite, 0.1% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.5% $MgSO_4\cdot 7H_2O$ containing each reactive dyes (500 ppm) under the optimal conditions of 32$\circ$C and pH 5. The mycelium of Aspergillus sojae B-10 was produced extracellular enzyme which has concerned responsible for dyes biodegradation. Under optimal conditions, reactive dyes started being decolorized within 24 hr and its was almost decolorized c ompletely after 5 days incubation. Rifazol blue RT was not completely decolorized until 5 days of cultivation. Rafacion Red BT, Rifasol blue BT and Rifacion yellow P-4G were completely decolorized after 5 days cultivation.

A Study on the Dyeing of PTT(polytrimethylene terephthalate)/Silk Mixture Fabrics with Disperse Dyes/Acid Dyes (분산염료/산성염료에 의한 PTT(polytrimethylene terephthalate)/견 교직물의 염색에 관한 연구)

  • The dyeing of poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT)/silk mixture fabrics can be accomplished by a two bath dyeing method with separate application of the disperse dyes on the PTT, reduction cleaning of the stained silk and then dyeing the silk with the acid dyes, or by one bath dyeing method with mixed dye ranges, possibly followed by a cleaning treatment. The two bath dyeing method has the advantage of better results with respect to dry cleaning fastness properties thanks to the possibility of an intermediate reduction clear. On the other hand, as compared with the two bath dyeing method, one bath dyeing method with a mixed dye range permits rapid and more reproducible dyeing, without the risk of great difference with respect to the shade of the strike on both substrates as well as savings of time, energy and water usage. This study was carried out to investigate dyeing characteristics of PTT/silk mixture fabrics with disperse dyes/acid dyes by one bath dyeing method in comparison with two bath dyeing method in the interests for rationalization of the dyeing process.

Density Functional Theory Study on D-π-A-type Organic Dyes Containing Different Electron-Donors for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

  • Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations have been employed to investigate the molecular structures and absorption spectra of three D-${\pi}$-A-type organic dyes (C1-1, D5 and TH208) containing identical ${\pi}$-spacers and electron acceptors, but different aromatic amine electron-donating groups (tetrahydroquinoline, triphenylamine and phenothiazine). The coplanar geometries indicate that the strong conjugation is formed in the dyes. The electronic structures suggest that the intramolecular charge transfer from the donor to the acceptor occurs, and the electron-donating ability of tetrahydroquinoline is stronger than those of triphenylamine and phenothiazine. The computed orbital energy levels of these dyes confirm that the electrons could be injected from the excited dyes to the semiconductor conduction band and the oxidized dyes could be reduced effectively by electrolyte. The TD-DFT results show that the CAM-B3LYP/6-31+G(d, p) is suitable for calculating the absorption spectra. The first absorption band for these dyes is assigned to the HOMO${\rightarrow}$LUMO and HOMO-1${\rightarrow}$LUMO transitions.

Study on the Detection of Artificial Dyes in the Commercial Drops by Use of Thin-Layer Chromatography (Thin-Layer Chromatography에 의한 시판 알사탕류의 착색료에 관한 고찰)

  • A study was carried out to detect of illegal artificial dyes, and to confirm the used rate of illegal dyes in the production process of commercial drops (candy), from Dec. 10, 1972 to Feb. 10, 1973. In this study, it was used thin layer chromatography, the samples were divided into two groups, group A of inscribed trade name and group B of not inscribed trade name. To contrast with group A and group B, 100 samples were randomly collected in the market places, 50 samples from group A and 50 samples from group B. The following conclusions were obtained: 1) used rate of illegal dyes were 2% of group A and 9% of group B. 2) used rate of illegal dyes were 2% of red, 2% of yellow, 1% of violet and 6% of green, not in blue. 3) used rate of illegal dyes 3% of Rhodamine B, 3% of Auramine and 6% of Light green S.F. Yellowish. 4) Out of 20 cases those used mixed dyes, only one case was confirmed as two illegal dyes, and 4 cases were used one illegal dye.

Recovery of Golden yellow and Cibacron LSG dyes from aqueous solution by bulk liquid membrane technique

  • Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) was used as carrier for the transport of Golden yellow and Cibacron LSG dyes through a hexane bulk liquid membrane. The transport efficiency of dyes by TBP was investigated under various experimental conditions such as pH of the feed phase (dyes solution), concentration of the receiving phase (NaOH solution), concentration of TBP in membrane, rate of stirring, effect of transport time, type of solvent, dye concentration in feed phase, effect of temperature.. The maximum transport dyes occurs at ratio of 1:1 TBP-hexane At pH 3.0 0.1 (feed phase) the transport dyes decreased. At high stirring speed (300 rpm) the dyes transport from the feed phase to the strip phase was completed within 60 minutes at $27^{\circ}C$. Under optimum conditions: Feed phase 100 mg/L dyes solution at pH 1.0 0.1, receiving phase 0.1 mol/L NaOH solution, membrane phase 1:1 TBP-hexane , Stirring speed 300 rpm and temperature $27^{\circ}C$, the proposed liquid membrane was applied to recover the textile effluent.

Application of Wool Dyes for Hair Dyeing (양모용 염료의 염모제 적용성 연구)

  • Low temperature dyeing properties of wool with reactive dyes and acid dyes were investigated for the feasibility study of their application to hair dyeing. The low temperature(30℃, 40℃) dyeing achieved light depth of shade in wool dyeing and reactive dyeing exhibited relatively higher color strength and chroma values than acid dyeing. Leveling agent slightly improved the levelness of the wool dyeing and the leveling properties of dyed wool at low temperature were good to excellent, irrespective of the dyes applied. Color loss during the repeated shampooing was in the range of 9.6~22.2% for reactive dyes and -7.4~31.5% for acid dyes and in some cases, the color fastness to shampooing was reasonable level. The overall experimental results showed that the application of low temperature wool reactive dyeing to hair dyeing is sufficiently feasible in terms of dyeability and color fastness to shampooing.

Dyeing Performance of Disperse Dyes Based on 2-aminothiazole for Cellulose Triacetate and Nylon Fibers

  • A series of monoazo disperse dyes based on 2-amino-4-phenylthiazole was prepared using various N,N-dialkvlaniline derivatives as the coupling component. The dyes were characterized by IR spectral studies, visible absorption spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The dyeing performance of these dyes was assessed on cellulose triacetate and nylon fibers. These dyes were found to give a wide range of colour shades varying from bright red to royal blue with very good depth, brightness and levelness on fibers. The dyed fibers showed good to very good light fastness and very good to excellent fastness to washing, perspiration, rubbing and sublimation. The dyebath exhaustion and fixation on the fibers were found to be very good.

  • Dyeing properties and crosslinking effect of bifunctional reactive dyes on chitosan fiber were investigated to improve the stability of chitosan fiber against the mild acidic solution and the wet processing. Chitosan fibers were crosslinked with epichlorohydrin for comparing purpose, and dyed with C. I. Reactive Red 194, C. I. Reactive Blue 50, and the reactive dye having two $\alpha$-bromoacrylamide groups at various concentrations. The initial dyeing rates of reactive dyes are rapid and chitosan fibers absorb the relatively large amount of dyes. The chitosan fibers dyed with these dyes show the low degree of swelling and the low solubility in 1 % acetic acid solution and also represent the higher thermal stability The reactive dye with two $\alpha$-bromoacrylamide groups shows higher crosslinking effect than other dyes.

  • Metal complex dyes are usually used to dye amide fiber such as wool, silk and nylon to achieve high concentrated color and excellent color fastness. However, metal complex dyes that contain various heavy metal components cause not only serious environmental problem but also human health. In this study the ordinary 1:2 metal acid dyes and the modified 1:2 metal dyes, which are environmental friendly, are compared and analyzed in existing dyes investigated the trends in the evaluation system of their harmfulness, containing heavy metals and examined exhaustion rates and dyeing characteristics.
