Rubia cordifolia L (Indian madder) contains red color purpurin (65-67%) and yellow color munjistin (10-12%) as well as nordamncanthal (9-10%). Purpurin is a traditional red dye. The purpose of this research is to increase the dyeability of silk and light fastness of dyed silk fabric. We dyed silk fabrics after pretreatment to remove the yellow component of madder using various solvents such as ethyl acetate, ethanol, methanol, chloroform, and acetone. The total K/S value was the highest in the case of chloroform and reflectance was the lowest at the red color region from 470nm to 530nm. Chloroform dissolved the yellow color of Rubia cordifolia; in addition, we found that the total K/S value increased and the ${\Delta}E$ value decreased by chloroform pretreatment for silk dyeing.
The five new red disperse dyes for unmodified pure polypropylene fibers were synthesized. As a coupling component, a di-n-hexyl substituent was used in common, while various substituents were used for the diazo component. The dye having electron donating group at diazo component showed hypsochromic shift compared to the unsubstituted dye, while the dyes having electron withdrawing groups showed bathochromic shift. Owing to their extreme hydrophobicity caused by the di-n-hexyl substituent, all dyes exhibited very high affinity toward pure polypropylene fibers. Fastness to washing was very good for all dyes and fastness to light was good except two purplish red dyes.
Recently fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites have attracted great interest from industry and study because they offer unique properties such as high strength, modulus, impact resistance, corrosion resistance, and damping reduction which are difficult to obtain in single-component materials. The demand for plastics is steadily increasing not only in household goods, packaging materials, but also in high-performance engineering plastic and recycling. As a result, the technology of recycling plastic is also attracting attention. In particular, many paper have studied recycling systems based on recycled thermoplastics. In this paper, properties of Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic(GFRTP) materials were evaluated using recycled PET for injection molding bicycle frame. The effect on thermal and mechanical properties of recycled PET reinforced glass chop fiber according to fiber cross section and fiber content ratio were studied. And it was compared void volume and torque energy by glass fiber cross section, which is round section and flat section. Mechanical characteristics of resulting in GF/rPET has been increased by increasing fiber contents, than above a certain level did not longer increased. And mechanical properties of flat glass fiber reinforced rPET with low void volume were most excellent.
In the light of the properties of colloids, in the surface of disperse phase and dispersion, there exist specific characters such as adsorption or electric double layer, which seems to play important roles in determining the physiochemical properties in the dyeing system. Nylon, wool and silk, the typical amphoteric fibers were dyed with Acid dye and various combinations were prepared by combining pH, temperature and dye concentration, in order to generate flowing electric potential which were measured by microviolt meter and specific conductivity meter. The results were transformed to Zeta potential by Helmholtz-Smoluchowski formular and to surface electric charge density by Suzawa formular, surface dye amount, and effective surface area of fibers, and these data were statistically analysed by principle component analysis.
The pine needles can be used for four seasons in normal living and it can be taken friendly everywhere as it is distributed over 50% in Korea. The pine needles consist of vitamins, protein, minerals, essential oil and enzyme related to antimicrobial activity. It has effect like high blood pressure, neuralgia and hanged over by terpene, glucokinin, rutin, apigenic acid and tannin. Also the extract of them can be used for dyeing of fabrics. However, the extract components and effects of them are not well known yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the volatile components of the pine needles extract and functionality. The pine needles extract was dyed into various fabrics(nylon, silk, wool and soybean) and mordanted with Al, Cu, Cr, Fe and Sn. The extracted aroma compounds were compared by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The major volatile compounds of pine needles verified by using SPME were alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, beta-phellandrene, caryophyllene, ethanon, benzen. A total of 15 compounds were identified by using the SPME fibers. In the UV-visible spectra, the maximum absorption of wavelength of the pine needles ethanol extract appeared at 460, 630nm for chlorophyll component and at 237, 281nm for tannin component with the pine needles distilled water extract. Most of sample showed high antibacterial effect in none mordant but wool fabric showed high antibacterial effect in mordants. The result of UV block test showed a superior ability of blocking ultraviolet ray infiltration in all sample.
para-aramid fibers were treated by atmosphere air plasma to improve the interfacial adhesion. The wettability of plasma-treated aramid fiber was observed by means of dynamic contact angle surface free energy measurement. Surface roughness were investigated with the help of scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The tensile test of aramid fiber roving was carried out to determine the effect of plasma surface treatments on the mechanical properties of the fibers. A pull-out force test was carried out to observe the interfacial adhesion effect with matrix material. It was found that surface modification and a chemical component ratio of the aramid fibers improved wettability and adhesion characterization. After oxygen plasma, it was indicated that modified the surface roughness of aramid fiber increased mechanical interlocking between the fiber surface and vinylester resin. Consequently the oxygen plasma treatment is able to improve fiber-matrix adhesion through excited functional group and etching effect on fiber surface.
The purpose of this study is to improve the method of color developing with alkali solution as a promotor of color developing for feasible use. Cotton fabric was dyed with persimmon extract ranged with 0~3% alkali component with 5 types of strong to mild alkali solution. Heat treatment for color developing was applied to fabric dyed with persimmon extract and alkali mixing solution. Tests were carried out to analyze the change of surface color, ${\Delta},Ea^*b^*$, and water repellent of the dyed cotton fabric. The alkali mixing sample showed higher ${\Delta},Ea^*b^*$ value than control one without alkali mixing on the base of dyed fabric due to high color developing by alkali in the initial step of dyeing process. As alkali concentration increased, deeper dark color appeared on the fabric. The fabric color was changed to more dark in the application of sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate in the initial step of dyeing process but color was not changed by increased heating time. However, the fabric showed a slight dark color with sodium acetate and more color change than that of the fabric dyed with persimmon extract without alkali. Therefore, sodium acetate seemed to a suitable promotor for color developing in persimmon extract dyeing. Property of water repellent was showed after color developing by heating with low concentration of alkali treatment.
A series of azo based disperse dyes were synthesized and applied to polyester(PET) fiber in supercritical carbon dioxide($ScCO_2$). Various aniline derivatives were used as diazo component and coupled with glycine ethylester or carbonic acid ethylester derivatives to give azo based disperse dyes. Depending on the various diazo substituents, absorption maxima varied from 415 to 529nm in acetone. Dyeing in $ScCO_2$ was carried out at $120^{\circ}C$ and 250bar pressure for 2hrs with 0.5% o.w.f. of dye concentration. Dyed PET fiber had excellent brightness and good light, washing and perspiration(acid/alkali) fastness properties.
Upon $UV/O_3$ irradiation cellulose acetate (CA) films showed modified surface properties such as increased hydrophilicity and surface roughness as well as increased dyeability to cationic dyes. UV treatment induced photoscission of acetyl groups in the main chain of CA resulting in decreased degree of substitution from 2.2 to 1.3. The slight decreases in reflectance and transmittance were caused by remarkably increased nano-scale surface roughness of the CA surface as much as 20-fold, which can destructively interfere with visible lights of wavelength lower thu 500nm. Water contact angle decreased from $54^{\circ}\;to\;14^{\circ}$ with increasing UV energy. Surface energy also increased slightly. The surface energy change was attributed to significant contribution of polar component rather than nonpolar component indicating surface photooxidation of CA film. The increased dyeability to cationic dyes in terms of both K/S and %E may be due to photochemically introduced anionic and dipolar dyeing sites on the film surfaces.
