This research aimed at scrutinizing the comparative dyeability of some disperse dyes at low temperature on ultra-microfiber polyester, islands in the sea type (0.05 denier), which has claimed utmost fastness and improved uptake of dyeing. Comparisons of dyeability, such as rate of dyeing and color depth, on ultra-microfiber polyester were evaluated by H.T. exhaust dyeing method and followed by the test of rubbing fastness. To achieve high wet fastness, some commercial disperse dyes, Terasil WW and Megacron dyes, which have been recently launched for excellent wash fastness, have been examined compared with conventional disperse dyes, C.I Disperse Red 167 and C.I Disperse Orange 30.
Five temporarily solubilized reactive disperse dyes were synthesized and characterized. They were applied to polyester/cotton blend fabric using one-bath dyeing method without dispersing agent. The dye that has azonaphthalene chro-mophore seemed to not only be exhausted on polyester but also react with cotton. But other dyes were selectively dyed on polyester and showed limited uptake on cotton. Good levelling as well as moderate to good colour fastness was obtained with the dyes on P/C blend fabric.
A pineapple protease, bromelain, was used to improve the dyeing properties of protein fibers such as wool and silk. The optimal condition for the activity of the pineapple protease was about $60^{\circ}C$ at pH 7. The wool and silk were treated with the protease extracted from a pineapple and the K/S values of the dyed wool and silk were measured using a spectrophotometer in order to compare the dye uptake. The protease treatment enhanced the dyeing properties of protein fibers without severe changes in mechanical properties. The surface appearances of protease-treated fibers were observed by microscopy.
The cytotoxicity of crude insect drugs was measured using HeLa cells originating from human cervix and uterine cancer. using the dye uptake assay in order to find potential anticancer agents. Three kinds of extracts (buffer, methanol and ethylacetate) were prepared from 26 insects and used as raw materials for the activity assay. Among these, the buffer extracts from Tabanus, Mylabris and Huechys showed a potent anticancer activity, and those from Catharsius, Red ant, Scorpion, Tabanus and Vespae Nidus showed a strong L-amino acid oxidase (AAO) activity as well as cytotoxicity. In contrast, buffer extracts from Gryllotalpa orientalis and Apriona germari larvae showed greater/more rapid Hela cell growth than that of other insects.
This study focuses on the effects of dyeing conditions and mordanting conditions, changes of colorfastness, antibacterial properties and UV protective of silk fabric dyed with Laminaria japonica extracts. A natural colorant was extracted from Laminaria japonica using distilled water as extractants. According to the results, maximum dye uptake (K/S) were obtained at 100% V/V colorant concentration, $80^{\circ}C$, 60 min and pH 2. Silk fabric was dyed with Laminaria japonica extract at $80^{\circ}C$ for 60 min with pre-treatment or post-treatment of various metal salts as mordants. The Laminaria japonica extracts produced yellow hue on silk fabric in pre-mordanting and manifested green yellow hue mordanted with $CuSO_4$ in post-mordanting method. Mordant $CuSO_4$ for silk fabric was found to give good light fastness (rating 4). UV protection property did not increase significantly upon mordanting.

To study Antimicrobial activities of wool and silk dyed by Impatiens balsamina extract with concentraion and times of dyeing, its leaf and stem was extracted by water. Wool and silk dyed by extracts were their microbial inhibition activities against Staphylococcus aureus KCTC 1928. The more concentration, The more times of dyeing their microbial inhibition activities were increased. Fabrics dyed by leaf estracts were higher microbial inhibition activities than fabrics dyed by stem extracts. Silk dyed by the leaf and stem extracts were higher microbial inhibition activities than wool dyed by the leaf and stem extracts. the more dye uptake, microbial inhibition activities of dyed fabrics were incresed.
Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) filaments of regular(monodenier 2.08d) and ultramicrofiber (monodenier 0.05d) were treated with dimethylformamide(DMF) to observe the structure change of the PET such as shrinkage, density, X-ray diffraction of the UMF treated with DMF were measured. Also, dyeing experiments were performed to see the effects of DMF. The dyeability was improved by DMF treatments, and the equilibrium dye uptake increased in spite of the increase in the density and birefringence and crystallinity. The heat shrinkage appeared in PET UMF treated PET UMF treated with DMF at $80^\circ{C}$ by TMA, DSC, and Reovibron analysis and $T_m$ peak was shown by DSC analysis.
Silk fabrics were dyed with Gromwell extracts after mordanted with various mordants and their dyeability, antibacterial.deodorization activity, fastness and change of surface color were investigated. Silk fabrics were mordanted at $60^\circ{C}$ for 30 minutes and subsequently dyed at $40^\circ{C}$ for 30 minutes. The dye-uptake of silk fabrics increased with the concentration of Gromwell extracts and mordants. Surface color of silk fabrics changed differently according to the type of mordants used. Antibacterial and deodorization activities of silk fabrics dyed with Gromwell extracts were good. Cu mordant was more effective for deodorization activity. Dyed silk fabrics showed poor light fastness but good dry-cleaning and perspiration fastness.
For thousands of years, dyes were obtained from natural sources, such as plants and animals. Although synthetic dyes have replaced many natural dyes for commercial use but natural dyes with their fascinating color are still used extensively by some people. To investigate the dyeing properties of chestnut bur, which is most widely found in our country, some experiments were performed under the several dyeing conditions with silk and cotton fabrics. It was found that $\lambda_{max}$ of chestnut but extract was 410nm and the color of the fabric dyed is Yellow Red. The K/S value of silk and cotton fabrics increased when the dyeing temperature was higher than $60^\circ{C}$ and the dyeing time was more than 30 minutes. Optimal dyeing pH was between 5 and 6, and repetition of dyeing increased K/S value of the sample fabrics. K/S value of silk fabric dyed with chestnut bur extract was higher than that of cotton. Post-mordanting method showed higher color yield compared with pre-mordanting, and higher temperature and increased time in mordanting increased the dye-uptake.
Human solid tumors exhibit a multicellular resistance (MCR) resulting from limited drug penetration and decreased sensitivity of tumor cells when interacting with their microenvironments. Multicellular cultures represent solid tumor condition in vivo and provide clinically relevant data. There is little data on antitumor effect of paclitaxel (PTX) in multicellular cultures although its MCR has been demonstrated. In the present study, we evaluated antiproliferative effects of PTX in multicellular layers (MCL) of DLD-1 human colorectal carcinoma cells. BrdU labeling index (LI), thickness of MCL, cell cycle distribution and cellular uptake of calcein were measured before and after exposure to PTX at 0.1 to 50 ${\mu}M$ for 24, 48 and 72 hrs. BrdU LI and thickness of MCL showed a concentration- and time-dependent decrease and the changes in both parameters were similar, i.e., 34.2% and 40.6% decrease in BrdU LI and thickness, respectively, when exposed to $50\;{\mu}M$ for 72 hr. The DLD-1 cells grown in MCL showed increase in $%G_{0}/G_{1}$ and resistance to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis compared to monolayers. Calcein uptake in MCL did not change upon PTX exposure, indicating technical problems in multicellular system. Overall, these data indicate that antitumor activity of PTX may be limited in human solid tumors (a multicellular system) and MCL may be an appropriate model to study further pharmacodynamics of PTX.
