Objectives: This study evaluated the skin permeability of lawsone in henna hair dyes to understand the exposure characteristics of henna hair dyes in the human body. It examined the protective effects of protectants by applying protectants A, B, and C to test skin. Methods: Skin absorption tests were conducted using Franz diffusion cells according to OECD test guideline 428. After applying one kind of natural henna hair dye and chemical henna hair dye, respectively, to a standardized pig skin model, samples of receptor fluid were collected at 1h, 3h, 6h, and 24h. The skin permeation of lawsone was determined using HPLC. After the skin absorption experiment, the skin to which hair dye was applied was analyzed to determine the residual amount of lawsone in the skin. Results: The cumulative permeation of both natural and chemical henna hair dyes increased over time, and the natural henna hair dye had a flux value (t=3.194, p<.05) high both in the Kp value (t=3.207, p<.05) and the residual amount (t=22.701, p<.001). For skin treated with a protectant, the cumulative permeation of natural henna hair dye 24h control and the cumulative permeation of protectant A, B, and C increased over time. Flux and Kp values were in the order control > protectant A > protectant C > protectant B. The residual amount (F=4.469, p<.05) was in the order of protectant C > protectant A > protectant B > control. At 3h, the dye application time of natural henna hair dye, the lawsone flux value (F=4.454, p<.05) and Kp value (F=4.455, p<.05) were higher in the control group than in the protectant groups. The 24h cumulative permeation of the chemical henna hair dye increased with time in both the control and the protectant groups, and the flux and Kp values were in the order of protectant A > protectant C > protectant B > control. The residual amount (F=7.901, p<.01) was in the order of protectant B > protectant A> protectant C > control. Conclusions: Within the normal dyeing time for henna hair dye (three hours for natural henna hair dyes and 30 minutes for chemical henna hair dyes) lawsone skin penetration was not observed even when no protective agent was applied. After that time, however, evidence of skin penetration and retention of lawsone and the protective effect of protective agents were observed.
This study is to determine the penetration of various medicaments such as Howe's ammoniacal silver nitrate and methyleneblue, to root canal dentin within given time (5,10,30 sec.) Followings are the results obtained from this study. 1) The dye stuff is more deeply penetrated according to the time elapsed. 2) According to the increase of age, the penetration ratio is decreased accordingly. 3) The penetration ratio of Howe's ammoniacal silver nitrate is higher than that of methyleneblue. 4) The permeability of the root canal dentin is gradually reduced as access to the apex.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal sealing ability of 'Hi-Pol' Enamel Bond system. Using freshly extracted human teeth and 2% acquous methylene blue, the marginal leakage of dye in restorative materials such as 'Hi-Pol' Enamel Bond system, Hi-Pol, Adaptic, Nuva system, Epolite and Amalgam were investigated at 37℃ and under temperature cycling in range of 4℃-60℃. the results as follows; 1. All filling materials showed some degree of marginal penetration by 2% methylene blue dye. 2. 'Hi-Pol' Enamel Bond system revealed the least marginal penetration by 2% methylene blue as Nuva did at 37℃, but under temperature cycling in range of 4℃-60℃ it showed the greatest marginal penetration. 3. Hi-Pol restoration showed a tendency the similar to the other composite restoration. 4. Nuva system had the most effective marginal sealing ability either at 37℃ and under temperature cycling.
Merino wool top and fabric have been treated with steams such as superheated steam or high pressure steam. Moisture regain, water absorbency, water penetration, zeta potential, ESCA, SEM, and dyeing behavior were studied. Negative electric potential on the surface of wool fibers by steam treatment became higher than untreated. From the results of ESCA measurement, intensity of $O_{1s}$ was increased by steam treatment. Rate of dyeing and saturation dye exhaustion of wools increased by steam treatment, especially high pressure steam treatment. Moisture regain, water absorbency, water penetration, and surface appearances by SEM photographs of the steam-treated wools didn't change. There is no relationship between dyeing of the steam-treated wool and wettability to water. Therefore It seems likely that relaxation of adhesive filler in interscale of wool by steam treatment accelerate dye penetration into the fiber.
The authers have studied the marginal leakage on various filing materials : Composite resin, Polycarboxylate cement, Zinc phosphate cement, Silicate cement and Zinc-oxide eugenol cement, by means of penetration of 2% aquous methylene blue between cavity walls and filing materials at body temperature and at thermal changs in the range of 4~60℃ The results revealed as follows.
1) All the filling materials revealed the penetration of dye between cavity walls and filling materials.
2) Zinc-oxide eugenol cement was the most effective to prevent the dye penetration on the contrary silicate cement cases showed greatest leakage at 37℃ and at temperature changes in range of 4-60℃.
3) The composite resin showed moderate leakage either at 37℃ or at thermal changes
4) Marginal obstructions of polycarboxylate cement were unsatisfactory at 37℃ and at temperature changes.
Several ways of curing are being tried to improve material's properties and reduce marginal gap. However, all are considering about the pattern of light intensity. It was noted from the preliminary study the change of light wavelength from filter changing may give an impact on material's property and microleakage. The object of this study was to verify the effect of filters with various wavelength width on the microhardness and microleakage of composite resin ; hybrid type of DenFil and submicron hybrid type of Esthet X. Composite resins were cured using 3 kinds of filter; narrow-banded(465-475 nm), mid-banded(430-470 nm), wide-banded(400-500 nm). After the estimation of microhardness. degree of dye penetration and the maximum gap from SEM evaluation were done between 4 groups that showed no difference in microhardness value of the lower surface . The results were as follows : 1 Adequate microhardness could not be gained with a narrow-banded filter irrespective of curing time. At the upper surface, DenFil should be polymerized with middle or wide-banded filter for 20 seconds at least, while Esthet X be col$.$ed with middle or wide-banded filter for 30 seconds at least to get simitar hardness value to control group. 2. There was little dye penetration in enamel margin, but all dentin margins skewed much more dye penetration irrespective of curing conditions. Although there was no statistical difference, groups cured with mid-banded filter for 40 seconds and with wide-width filter for 20 seconds showed relatively less dye penetration. 3. It was revealed from the SEM examination that group cured with wide-banded filter had the smallest gap without statistical significance. Spearman's rho test showed that the correlation between the results of dye penetration and SEM examination was very low. From these results, it could be concluded that curing with wide-width filter would be better than the other techniques, even though the curing technique using mid-width filter seems to have its own unique advantage.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adaptation of root canal filling material to the dentinal wall of root canal and to compare the sealing ability of the root canal filling materials using ultrasonic endodontic instrument with injection-molded thermoplasticized gutta-percha filling method and lateral condensation method. Fifty fresh human single root exlracted for orthodontic treatment, were randomly selected, and instrumented by step-back technique. And then, the teeth were divided into 5 groups according to each root canal filling methods. In the experimental group 1 and group 2, the root canals were filled with gutta perdia cases using ultrasonic instrument with and without sealer. In the experimental group 3 and 4, using jection-moldeed thermoplasticized gutta-percha method by obtul$^{(R)}$ canals were filled with and without sealer. In the control group, the canals were filled with sealer by lateral candensation. And then, 5 teeth of each group were immersed in black Indian ink, decalcified and cleared. The depth of dye penetration into the root canal were evaluated with stereoscope (Reichert Ltd., USA). Among the 5 teeth remaining in each group, the single longituding grooves were made on the labial and lingual root surfaces and then immersed in the liquid nitrogen to fracture the teeth spontaneously without any distortions of gutta-percha. Each specimens were examined with X-650 Scanning Electron Microscope(Hitachi ltd, Japan) to show the adaptation to the canal wall, void, homogenicity of filling material and location of gutta-percha or sealer in the dentinal tubules of the root canal. The observations were as follows : 1. The experimental group 1 showed smaller mean dye penetration than control group, and showed the penetraton of sealer in the dentinal tubules of apical third of the root canal. 2. The experimental group 2 and group 4 showed the penetration of gutta-percha in the dentinal tubules of root canals. 3. The experimental group 1 and group 3 showed less mean dye penetration than the experimental group 2 and group 4. 4. The experimental group 1 and group 2 showed better adaptation of filling materials than control group.
The herbicide penetration on weed leaves was spatially analyzed by using chlorophyll fluorescent emission and machine vision technique. Velvetleaf and metribuzin were used as experimental materials in the study. The herbicide spray images were obtained by a combinaton of a fluorescent dye and a UV lighting system. The herbicide penetration was analyzed by means of detecting chlorophyll fluorescent emission under blue-green lighting. According to the experiment results, the number and the size of spray droplets decreased with coverage increasing. The herbicide penetrated mainly along leaf veins and the time for complete penetration over the whole leaf was approximately 100 minutes after herbicide spraying. When the coverage of herbicide droplets on the surface of leaves increased, the speed of herbicide penetration also increased. This study suggested a way of characerizing herbicide spatial penetration and distribution in leaves.
The hydrophobic nature of the wool surface give rise to difficult penetration of dye molecules. Among all the methods of modification, graft polymerization is an attractive method to impart a variety of functional groups to a polymer. Grafting has been made by irradiating the light on the polymer in the presence of a solvent containing monomer. The energy source commonly used are high-energy electrons, X-rays, UV and visible light. UV irradiation is a relatively low-energy radiation in comparison with others since it has the least possibility to change bulk properties. In the present paper, a photo-reactive dye was synthesized from quinizarin by the reaction with methacryloyl chloride. The synthesized dye was continuously grafted onto wool fabric at room temperature by UV irradiation. Several key parameters including UV energy, dye concentration and pH have been examined to understand their influence on the photoreactive coloration.
Recently, composite hollow bushings have been increasingly employed mainly from the various characteristics. Composite bushings are superior to porcelain bushings in several respects, including lighter weight, better anti-pollution and anti-explosion properties, and easer manufacturing. Filament wound GRP tubes which have various winding angle were manufactured by using a filament winding machine. This paper will show some design issues and winding condition for composite bushing. And, results show that the winding condition of composite GRP tubes can be used to improved their bending strength and pressure, For bending and pressure tested, tubes with the hybrid winding pattern show higher strength than those of unit winding pattern. Also, the influence of absorption was evaluated through such as measurement of the dye penetration test and water diffusion test, also aspects of surface state using scanning electron microscopy.
