Effect of dye wastewater on heavy metal removal using carboxylated alginic acid bead was performed. When carboxylated alginic acid bead was used as support, effect of dye wastewater on adsorption of $Pb^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions was very small. Also, when $Pb^{2+}$ was coexisted with dye wastewater, adsorption process was almost completed within 2-3 hrs and $Pb^{2+}$ ions (50 ppm) was almost removed with 0.3g of bead. This result means that carboxylated alginic acid bead has effective adsorbent for heavy metal removal in dye wastewater.

Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) has been expected to be an alternative to the conventional silicon solar cell due to simple manufacturing process and low fabrication casts. In order to improve productivity of DSC, we attempted to optimize the required time of the adsorption process. According to the change in the adsorption time from 1 to 24h, We analyzed the output characteristics and the change of internal impedance. As a result, The outputs of DSC were continuously increased until 12h of the adsorption time and remained the same after that. Also, We reconfirmed this result that 12h was optimum adsorption by the analysis of the electrochemical impedance spectroscope because the internal impedance was similar to the output.
Presence of hazardous dyes in water cause considerable risks to the human health and environment due to their potential toxicity and ecological disruptions. Therefore, in the present research, to suggest an alternative method for the retention of toxic Azocarmine G (ACG) dye from aqueous media, natural and H2SO4-modified acacia sawdust were performed for the first time as low-cost and efficient adsorbents. Based on batch experiments, it was determined that the best conditions for the developed dye retention process were an initial pH of 2.0 and an equilibrium time of 240 min. Analysis of the data using both pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models showed that the retention of ACG onto the adsorbents predominantly occurred through chemical adsorption. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models were employed to provide insights into the interaction between the adsorbate and adsorbent and the mechanism of the adsorption process. Maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of natural and H2SO4-modified acacia sawdust were determined as 28.01 and 64.90 mg g-1, respectively by Langmuir isotherm model. Results of the study clearly indicated that the modification of acacia sawdust with H2SO4 leads to a substantial increase in the adsorption performance of anionic dyes.
The adsorption of Rhodamine-B dye using granular activated carbon from aqueous solution was investigated. Adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of the adsorbent dose, pH initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The equilibrium adsorption data showed a good fit to Langmuir isotherm model. Based on the estimated Langmuir separation factor ($R_L$ = 0.0164~0.0314), our adsorption process could be employed as an effective treatment method. The kinetics of adsorption followed the pseudo first order model. Also, the negative values of Gibbs free energy (-4.51~-13.44 kJ/mol) and positive enthalpy (128.97 kJ/mol) indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic process. The isosteric heat of adsorption increased with increase in the surface loading indicating lateral interactions between the adsorbed dye molecules.
An alternately assembled polycation-anionic dye film was prepared on a precursor assembly of poly(allylamine)hydrochloride (PAH) and poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) or of poly (djallyldimethyl)ammonium chloride (PDDA) and PSS. The (PAH/PSS) precursor assembly gave better adsorptivity to the anionic dye than the (PDDA/PSS) one. Four kinds of anionic dyes (EB-T, AR-17 AR-18, AR-27) with different numbers of sulfonate substituents were compared. The extent of dye assembling was higher for the dye with a smaller number of sufonate substituents. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was clearly observed from the films. The SHG signal and the absorption intensity correlated well up to four polycation/dye bilayers, while further assembly did not increase the SHG signal appreciably. Second order nonlinear coefficients for ten bilayer assemblies were the order of pm/V.
Korean acid clays and silica gel were put into action on benzene solution of dye, such as aniline yellow, o-nitro aniline and oil orange, and then the adsorptivity of dye in nonaqueous solution was measured, with the result that adsorptivity was greater with silica than acid clays and it had no relation to acidity. And when chemical compounds, such as amine, alcohol, halogen derivative, were added to each dye solution by 10%(in volume), the change of the adsorptivity of dye by solid acid(that is, the interfered adsorption rate) decreased in order of amine > alcohol > halogen derivative, and in homologue the smaller the molecular weight, the larger was the effect. So adsorption in nonaqueous solution was a selective adsorption of chemical compounds which contained negative groups such as amine and hydroxyl radicals, and it had no relation to surface tension and showed inverted phenomenon of Traube series. It is guessed that the inverted phenomenon (the interfered adsorption phenomenon) was due to the polar chemical adsorption between active $SiO_2$ which was an origin of solid acid and the adsorbed substances, considering that the order of inversion was nearly in accord with dipole moment of added solvents. The results of this study led to find adsorption mechanism and inverted phenomenon of Traube series in nonaqueous solution.

The presence of high amounts of organic and inorganic contaminants in textile wastewater is a major environmental concern. Therefore, the treatment of textile wastewater is an urgent issue to save the aquatic environment. The disposal of large quantities of untreated textile wastewater into inland water bodies can cause serious water pollution. In this study, synthetic dye wastewater samples were prepared using orange dye in the laboratory. The synthetic samples were then treated by a batch adsorption process using the prepared activated carbon (AC) from date pits. The wastewater parameters studied were the pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), electrical conductivity (EC) and salinity. The activated adsorption process showed that the maximum removal efficiencies of electric conductivity (EC), salinity, TDS and TSS were 65%, 92%, 89% and 90%, respectively. The removal efficiencies were proportional to the increase in contact time (30-120 min) and AC adsorbent dose (1, 3 and 5 g/L). The adsorption profile indicates that 5 g/L of adsorbent delivers better results for TDS, EC, TSS and salinity at contact time of 120 min. The adsorption characteristics are better suited to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model than to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were well suited for describing the adsorption or contact behavior of EC and TSS within the studied system.

Alizarin dye, a persistent and hazardous contaminant in aquatic environments, presents a pressing environmental concern. In the quest for efficient removal methods, adsorption has emerged as a versatile and sustainable approach. This study focuses on the development and application of Zinc Oxide/Nickel Oxide (ZnO/NiO) nano-composites as adsorbents for alizarin dye removal. These semiconducting metal oxide nano-composites exhibit synergistic properties, offering enhanced adsorption capabilities. Key parameters affecting alizarin removal, such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, and temperature, were systematically investigated. Notably, the ZnO/NiO nano-composite demonstrated superior performance, with a maximum alizarin removal percentage of 76.9 % at pH 6. The adsorption process followed a monolayer pattern, as suggested by the Langmuir model. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model provided a good fit to the experimental data. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the process is endothermic and thermodynamically favorable. These findings underscore the potential of ZnO/NiO nano-composites as effective and sustainable adsorbents for alizarin dye removal, with promising applications in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.
Malachite green is used a dye but malachite green is harmful toxic substance. In this study, the adsorption characteristics of zeolite has been investigated for the adsorption of malachite green dissolved in water. The effects of initial dye concentration, contact time, pH and temperature on adsorption of malachite green by a fixed amount of zeolite have been studied in batch adsorber and fixed bed. The adsorption equilibrium data are successfully fitted to the Freundlich isotherm equation in the temperature range from 25 to $45^{\circ}C$. The estimated values of k and ${\beta}$ are 23.60-46.88, 0.225-0.347, respectively. The mechanism of the adsorption process was determined from the intraparticle diffusion model. The effects of the operation conditions of the fixed bed on the breakthrough curve were investigated. When the inlet concentration and initial flow rate of malachite green are increased, the corresponding adsorption breaktime appears to decrease. Breaktime increased with increasing bed height and length of adsorption zone showed similar patterns.
In past, dye diffusion and dyeing rate in fibers have been emphasized in dyeing phenomena. However, in the light of the properties of colloids in the surface of disperse phase and dispersion, there exist specific characters such as adsorption or electric double layer, which seems to play important roles in determining the physiochemical properties in the dyeing system. Electrostatic bonding, hydrogen bonding and Van der Waals adsorption are common in dyeing as well as covalent bonding. Particularly, electrostatic bonding is premised on the existance of ionic radicals in fibers. The present study was aimed to clarify the electrokinetic phenomena of dyeing through the role of electric double layer by ion in amphoteric fibers with different ionic effects under different pH. Spectrophotometric analysis method was used to compare dyeing condition of surface, which can be detected by electrokinetic phenomena and the inner of fibers after deceleration of dyed fibers. Nylon and wool, the typical amphoteric fibers were dyed with monoazo acid dyes such as C.I. Acid Orange 20, and C.I. Acid Orange 10. Various combinations were prepared by combining pH, temperature and dye concentration, in order to generate streaming electric potential which were measured by microvolt meter and specific conductivity meter. The results were transformed to zeta potential by Helmholtz-Smoluchowski formular and to surface electric charge density by Suzawa formular, surface dye amount, and effective surface area of fibers. The amount of dyes of inner fibers were also measured by the Lambert-Beer’s law. The main results obtained are as follows. 1. By measuring zeta pontential, it was possible to detect the dyeing mechanism, surface charge density, surface dye amount and effective surface area concerning dye adsorption of the amphoteric fibers. 2. Zeta pontential increases in negative at low pH and high dye concentration in the process of dyeing. This implied that there existed ionic bond formation in the dyeing mechanism between acid dyes and amphoteric fibers. 3. Dibasic acid dye had little changing rate in zeta potential due to the difference in solubility of dye and in number of dissociated ions per dye molecule to bond with amino radicals of amphoteric fibers. The dye adsorption of mono basic acid dye was higher than that of dibasic acid dye. 4. The effective surface areas concerning dyeing were $6.3E+05\;cm^2/g$ in nylon, $1.6E+07\;cm^2/g$ in wool fiber being higher order of wool then nylon.
