해양온도차 발전소의 입지선정을 위한 해수 온도차의 공간적 분포특성 분석 (A Property Analysis on Spatial Distribution of Sea Water Temperature Difference for Site Selection of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Plant)

  • 한국동해 연근해역의 표층수온은 일반적으로 온대해역에서의 표층수온과 같이 계절변화를 하지만, 심층에서는 연중 1 $^{\circ}C$이하의 온도를 유지하는데 동해고유수로 인하여 표층의 온수와 심층의 냉수간의 온도차를 이용한 해양온도차 발전의 충분한 잠재성이 있다. 해양온도차 발전의 제 1 조건인 표층수와 심층수간의 온도차에 관련된 한국 동해의 해양 환경적 특성을 정량화 하고자 온도차에 대한 연평균, 연진폭, 연위상을 구하고 연중 15$^{\circ}C$이상의 온도차가 유지된는 기간을 일일 단위로 표현하였다. 한국동해 연근 해역 중 온도차 발전의 최적합 해역은 포항 동쪽 35km 해역 (36$^{\circ}$05'N, 129$^{\circ}$48'E)에서 55km 해역 (36$^{\circ}$05'N, 130$^{\circ}$00'E)까지로 조사 연구되었다. 이들 최적합 해역에서는 온도차는 8월의 경우 누년 평균 약 24$^{\circ}C$로 나타났으며, 년 중 15$^{\circ}C$이상의 온도차가 유지되는 기간은 최대 215일 (5/5-12/10)로 나타났다. 아울러 이 해역에서 온도차의 연진폭은 6$^{\circ}C$이며 , 연위상은 236$^{\circ}$로 계획성있는 전력생산을 할수 있을것으로 사료된다. 한국 동해 연근해역에서 표층으로부터 수직으로 최단거리에 존재하는 동해고유수(수온 1$^{\circ}C$이하의 해수)의 수심에 대한 계절변화는 평균 300m를 중심으로 하여 50m 미만의 작은 변동폭을 나타내었다. 향후 이러한 안정된 위치를 나타내는 심층 냉수를 에너지로 전환하기 위한 연구가 수행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

강릉지역 2009~2018년 해풍 발생 특성 (Occurrence Characteristics of Sea Breeze in the Gangneung Region for 2009~2018)

  • The Gangneung region has the complicated geographical characteristics being adjacent to East Sea and Taeback mountains, and thus sea breeze could play an important role in local weather in various aspects. This study aims to understand overall characteristics of sea breeze largely based on long-term (2009~2018) ground-based observation data. We also propose a selection criteria of sea breeze occurrence day; 1) daily precipitation is less than 10 mm, 2) surface wind direction is 0~110° (northerly to easterly) for more than 3 hours during the daytime, 3) wind direction is 110~360° for more than 3 hours during the nighttime, and 4) land and sea temperature difference is positive during the daytime, 5) sea and land sea-level pressure difference is more than 0.5 hPa. As a result, a total of 595 days was selected for the past 10 years. The occurrence of sea breeze is the highest in late Spring to early Summer (May to June). The passage time of sea breeze at the inland station (1.6 km farther inland) is one hour later than the coastal station. On the typical sea breeze event of April 12, 2019, the passage speed and duration of sea breeze was 15 km hr-1 and about 9 hours, respectively, with its depth of about 500 m and its head swelling. The current results emphasize the critical role of sea breeze in forecasting surface temperature and wind, and contribute to relieve heat wave especially in summer in the Yeongdong region.

다시마와 다시마 요구르트의 변비해소 효과 (Effects of Sea Tangle Extract and Sea Tangle Yogurt on Constipation Relief)

  • In an effort to make a functional and stable yogurt, this study investigated the improvement effects of sea tangle extract and sea tangle yogurt on intestinal function. The intestinal improvement effect of the extract was measured by the charcoal meal transit method, employing Balb/C mice. And constipation relief was compared utilizing the loperamide-induced constipation method, employing SD rats. Charcoal meal transit was remarkably increased in the mice receiving sea tangle extract as compared to the controls. The constipation relief effects of the sea tangle and sea tangle yogurt were evaluated by measuring fecal amounts in the rats after adding them to water. The fecal contents increased remarkably in the sea tangle administered rat groups as compared to the control group. In addition, different yogurt samples were used to evaluate the characteristics of the sea tangle yogurt. During storage, pH slightly decreased in the yogurt with sea tangle as well as without. At the same time, acidity slowly increased as the storage duration increased. As time elapsed, the amounts of viable cells increased in both yogurts (with and without sea tangle). In the sensory evaluation, significant differences were shown between the sea tangle yogurt and the control for color, flavor, sweetness, and overall quality. Overall, based on the combined results of the intestinal function effects and sensory evaluation, the 0.25% sea tangle yogurt proved to be superior.

독도 근해 홍게(Chionoecetes japonicus) 유생의 출현시기와 분포 (Larval Timing and Distribution of the Red Snow Crab Chionoecetes japonicus near Dokdo)

  • The larval occurrence of the red snow crab Chionoecetes japonicus was investigated near Dokdo in the East Sea of Korea, and the larval timing of the genus Chionoecetes in world oceans was reviewed. C. japonicus larvae were collected seasonally at 12 stations in February, May, August, and November in 2011. A Bongo net with a 303 mesh was deployed with a double oblique tow. Larvae appeared from February to August, but no larvae were found in November. Zoea I occurred at nine stations with a few zoea II in February, and were found until August. The larval densities in February were high near the northern. In May, megalopa were found at eight stations with a few zoea II. No larvae were caught in November. The larval abundance in the research area peaked in February. Overall, the larval duration of the genus Chionoecetes in the world's oceans persisted for a long time, and Chionoecetes larvae occurred during the warm season in each area. The cold temperature at the sea bottom, where gravid females are found, may prolong larval production along the distribution range of the genus Chionoecetes.

기상청 기후예측시스템(GloSea6-GC3.2)의 열대저기압 계절 예측 특성 (The Seasonal Forecast Characteristics of Tropical Cyclones from the KMA's Global Seasonal Forecasting System (GloSea6-GC3.2))

  • The seasonal forecast skill of tropical cyclones (TCs) in the Northern Hemisphere from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Global Seasonal Forecast System version 6 (GloSea6) hindcast has been verified for the period 1993 to 2016. The operational climate prediction system at KMA was upgraded from GloSea5 to GloSea6 in 2022, therefore further validation was warranted for the seasonal predictability and variability of this new system for TC forecasts. In this study, we examine the frequency, track density, duration, and strength of TCs in the North Indian Ocean, the western North Pacific, the eastern North Pacific, and the North Atlantic against the best track data. This methodology follows a previous study covering the period 1996 to 2009 published in 2020. GloSea6 indicates a higher frequency of TC generation compared to observations in the western North Pacific and the eastern North Pacific, suggesting the possibility of more TC generation than GloSea5. Additionally, GloSea6 exhibits better interannual variability of TC frequency, which shows relatively good correlation with observations in the North Atlantic and the western North Pacific. Regarding TC intensity, GloSea6 still underestimates the minimum surface pressures and maximum wind speeds from TCs, as is common among most climate models due to lower horizontal resolutions. However, GloSea6 is likely capable of simulating slightly stronger TCs than GloSea5, partly attributed to more frequent 6-hourly outputs compared to the previous daily outputs.

OUTBREAK OF HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS RELATED WITH TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION DERIVED FROM IN-SITU AND REMOTE SENSING EXPERIMENTS IN THE KOREAN WATERS

  • The red tide related with Cochlodinium Polykrikoides bloom has been frequently occurred around the South Sea of Korea and caused the economic loss in the coastal breeding grounds. The outbreak scale was usually change by physical, biological and environmental condition at each years. Relatively large-scale red tide occurred in 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003 through spatial scale, duration and maximum density. Compared the scale of red tide with physical condition around the South Sea, the lower coastal temperature on August around the South Sea corresponded with the large scale red tide. By serial oceanographic investigations on August in the South Sea and estimated wide area temperature information by satellite, SSTA around the South Sea and wide area was negative when the outbreak of red tide was large scale. From the results of temperature difference between surface and 30m layers, the occurrence of enormous red tide has a tendency when the temperature gradient around the seasonal thermocline was weakened. Larger Kuroshio volume transport in the upstream was also corresponded with the large scale red tide.

인공해저에 대한 어류의 위집기구에 관한 연구 (A Study on Gathering Behaviour of Fish in the Artificial Sea-floor Area)

  • 본 연구에서는 저자 등이 개발한 인공해저를 대상으로 어류의 위집행동 및 분포구조를 잠수관찰 및 어군탐지기를 이용하여 조사하였다. 인공해저와 같은 해양구조물 주변에서의 군집구조를 파악하는 것은 인공어초의 위집기구 연구에 중요한 사항이다. 연구에서 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 잠수관찰에 의하면 어류의 분포층은 인공해저의 구조와 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있어, 표층 해저면에서는 회유성 어종인 고등어, 전갱이가 군을 형성하여 일시적으로 위집되었다. 한편, 중층 시험 어초 부근에는 정착성 어종인 돌돔, 붉바리, 돔감펭볼락 등이 군을 형성 장시간 체류하는 것이 관찰되어, 이들 어류는 인공어초를 먹이장소 또는 휴식공간으로 긴밀하게 이용하고 있다고 판단되었다. 2. 어군탐지기를 사용하여 인공해저 주변을 24시간 항주조사 한 결과, 어류의 행동생태는 일출몰 시각의 전후로 변화하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 주간에 군을 형성하여 인공해저의 중$.$저층 부근에서 유영하던 어군에코는 야간에는 분산형태로 표층부근에 폭 넓게 산재하고 있어, 어군의 일주행동이 분명하게 밝혀졌다.

Evaluation of the Quality of Canned Seafood with Added Spice-oil Extract

  • The influence of spice (cinnamon, allspice, black pepper)-oil extract on canned seafood quality was studied. During the processing of canned seafood, the substitution of spice-oil extract for vegetable oil (refined sunflower, corn, soybean and olive oil) resulted in a decrease in the heat resistance of spore microorganisms, making it possible to reduce the duration of sterilization for canned food to 5-10 min at $115^{\circ}C$. This reduction in the sterilization duration of canned seafood with spice-oil extract inhibited residual microflora in the product, thus reducing the deleterious effect of heating on the main food compounds while preserving protein digestibility.

Quality Characteristics of Low-Salt Myungran Jeotkal Fermented by Vegetable-Origin Lactic Acid Bacteria and Salt from Deep Sea Water

  • In this study, the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of low-salt Myungran jeotkal (Alaskan pollock roe) were evaluated after fermentation at $4^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ with or without the addition of deep sea water, salt from deep sea water, and vegetable-origin lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus fermentum JS, LBF). When fermented at $20^{\circ}C$, the addition of LBF to Myungran jeotkal resulted in a slow increase in lactic acid content, followed by an abrupt increase after five days of fermentation. However, when fermented at $4^{\circ}C$, the lactic acid content did not change significantly. Further, when Myungran jeotkal fermented at $4^{\circ}C$, the pH decreased as lactic acid production increased. The salinity of Myungran jeotkal fermented at $4^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ was 7% and was not affected by fermentation period. When fermented at $20^{\circ}C$, volatile basic nitrogen and amino nitrogen contents increased with increasing duration of fermentation. Further, volatile acid content decreased, however, the content of amino nitrogen increased after 11 days of fermentation with LBF and no salt effects were observed. When fermented at $20^{\circ}C$ for 13 days, preference (sensory evaluation) was the highest in all experimental groups after 9 days of fermentation, and then decreased as the fermentation period increased. The free amino acid content was highest (1,648.8 mg/100 g) in Myungran jeotkal when sun-dried salt and LBF were added, 2.3 times higher than in the control.

최근 남한지역에서 발생한 낙뢰의 통계적 특성 (Statistical Characteristics of Recent Lightning Occurred over South Korea)

  • 최근(2002-2006) 발생한 낙뢰의 빈도, 강도, 지속시간 및 낙뢰율의 시 공간적 특성을 분석하였다. 빈도는 경년변동이 크게 나타났으며, 여름과 겨울에 각각 전체 낙뢰의 75%, 0.6%가 발생하였다. 정극성 낙뢰는 우기(6-9월)에 부극성 낙뢰의 0.15 비율로 발생했으나 동계에는 그 비율이 증가하여 2월경에 부극성 낙뢰의 0.98까지 증가하였다. 낙뢰 지속시간은 여름에 집중되는 계절변동이 크게 나타났으나 낙뢰율의 변동은 이에 비해 작았다. 낙뢰는 새벽(2시, 5-7시)과 오후 중반(15시)에 두 번의 최대 빈도가 나타났으며 5시경에는 낙뢰강도가 강하였으나, 15시를 전후로 하는 오후 중반에는 낙뢰 강도가 약했다. 낙뢰밀도는 남한 서부 내륙 및 서 남해상에 높으며, 영동 및 동해지역은 낮았다. 충남 및 전북지역에서 0.4 이상으로 높게 나타났는데, 구름내 방전일 가능성이 있어 해석의 주의를 요한다. 낙뢰 밀도가 높은 서부내륙에서는 우기 낙뢰 지속시간이 연 평균 15-25시간으로 나타났으나, 서해상에서는 낙뢰 발생 시의 집중도가 높고 강도가 강하였다. 대부분의 내륙에서는 오후 중반에서 저녁 사이에 낙뢰 발생 빈도가 최대였으나 산악 및 해안, 중서부 지역은 각각 오전과 새벽에 최대로 발생하였다.
