Reinforced concrete structures built on the seashore or in seawater are damaged from saltwater which cause to accelerate corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete. Therefore, Corrosion of steel reinforcement of concrete structures become more and more serious, and prediction of service lives of concrete structures considering steel corrosion is needed much more. this research is to investigate basic physical properties of various corrosion inhibitors and to evaluate their corrosion resistance in concrete. The object of this study is develop appropriate corrosion protection systems so as to enhance the durability of concrete.

This study was carried out ont the longterm aged reinforced concrete housings for the prediction of life expectancy and the suggestion of fundamental informations on the durable concrete. In this paper, the durability of concrete is compared with carbonation depth, and the measutrments fo carbonation depth and properties have been made on the number of cores taken from structures. And finally, the relationships between carbonation rate and such properties as strength, absorption ratio, density were examined.

Considering the high temperature durability, the most important issue is to accurately predict the maximum operating temperature of the shell, mat and substrate. This temperature prediction then defines the material selections far the mat, shell and cones, and allows an assessment to be made as to the necessity of heat shielding. In this papers, The commercial code FLUENT was utilized to simulate automotive oval type catalytic converters, with the objective of predicting thermal behavior under steady-state, high-load conditions. Specialized computational models are used to account for effects of heat and mass transfer in the monolith, conjugate heat transfer in the various converter materials, and radiation heat transfer.
Precast segmental bridge columns (PSBC) are alternatives for monolithic cast-in-situ concrete columns in bridge substructures, with fast construction speed and structural durability. The analytical tool for common use is demonstrated applicable for seismic performance prediction of PSBCs through experiment conducted earlier. Then the analytical program was used for parameter optimization of PSBC configurations under reversal cyclic loading. Shear strength by pushover analysis was compared with theoretical prediction. Moreover, seismic response of PSBC with energy dissipation (ED) bars was compared with its no ED bar counterpart under three history ground acceleration records. The investigation shows that appropriate ED bar and post-tensioned tendon arrangement is important for higher lateral bearing capacity and good ductility performance of PSBCs.

Nonlinear temperature distribution induced by the hydration heat generates thermal stress in mass concrete. At early ages, such thermal stress may induce thermal cracks in the structure which can affect on the durability and safety of the structure. Up to now, a lot of works have focused on the prediction of temperature distribution and thermal stress in the structure. In most of such works, however, the inside of structure was considered as adiabatic state to predict temperature distribution and the thermal stress. And due to the lacks of appropriate analysis models after crack, there was little research on the crack occurrence. This paper deals with the prediction of the temperature distribution in the structure using the rate of hydration heat generation and also estimates the behavior of structure before and after cracking due to hydration heat using crack band model.

As form a part of way to improve the durability of concrete placed on deleterious environments such as acidic rivers, sewage wastewater, and sewer system, the paper presented here is the results of experimental immersion test, and for the test solution, 4 types sulfuric acid solution was prepared. From the result of EDS analysis of cement paste at 180 days of immersion, the detected major chemical elements were Ca and S and they are assumed as composing elements of gypsum. A comparative study between prediction models from the Japanese Standard and the present study corresponding to $d=C\sqrt{t}$ and $d=\alpha{\cdot}t^n$ respectively accorded well with each other, as being 0.98 of determination coefficient.

This study is concerned with the relation between steelbelt width and belt edge separation of a tire. Belt edge separation causes tire burst and threatens passenger's safety. For the reason, it is important to predict durability caused by belt edge separation in the early stage of the tire structure design. Usually, passenger car tires have two layers of steelbelts having opposite steel cord's angles, which makes a shear behaviour between each belt layer. Shear behaviour is one of reason to cause belt edge separation. In this study, to predict belt edge separation, we suggested the prediction method of belt edge separation and evaluated the effect of steelbelt width on the belt edge separation using FEM. We also studied on main parameters to affect shear behaviour at the belt edge area.
Prediction of concrete properties is an important issue for structural engineers and different methods are developed for this purpose. Most of these methods are based on experimental data and use measured data for parameter estimation. Three typical methods of output estimation are Categorized Linear Regression (CLR), Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). In this paper a statistical cleansing method based on CLR is introduced. Afterwards, MLR and ANN approaches are also employed to predict the compressive strength of structural lightweight aggregate concrete. The valid input domain is briefly discussed. Finally the results of three prediction methods are compared to determine the most efficient method. The results indicate that despite higher accuracy of ANN, there are some limitations for the method. These limitations include high sensitivity of method to its valid input domain and selection criteria for determining the most efficient network.

Atmospheric corrosion poses a significant threat to durability of metallic materials and safety of structures, making precise prediction of corrosion rates crucial in industrial and engineering settings. Understanding the exact rate of corrosion is essential. However, accurate inclusion of various environmental factors that can influence atmospheric corrosion in the calculation of corrosion rate is a complex challenge. This study introduces a physics-based model that incorporates electrochemical methods and considers active surface area affected by surface contaminants to estimate atmospheric corrosion rate of carbon steel. The model can evaluate corrosion levels using key factors such as chloride deposition rate, relative humidity, and the presence of surface particles. By integrating these considerations, this model moves beyond empirical estimations, providing a more stable prediction of corrosion rate that is less susceptible to environmental variations. This model provides a robust tool for defense applications, offering precise insights into the dynamics of atmospheric corrosion that could enhance the maintenance and safety of weapon systems.
