철근콘크리트 속빈 단면 보의 곡률연성지수 특성 (The Characteristics of Curvature Ductility Factor of Reinforced Concrete Hollow Section Beams)

  • 콘크리트 구조물이 대형화됨에 따라 고교각, 장지간의 보 등 부재가 장대화되고 있으며, 장지간의 철근콘크리트 부재에서는 자중을 줄이고 강성을 증가시키기 위해 속빈 단면을 사용하는 것이 증가하는 추세이다. 본 연구에서는 철근콘크리트 속빈 단면 보의 모멘트-곡률 관계를 해석적 방법으로 구하여 속빈 부분의 크기, 상부플랜지와 복부의 철근 배치조건이 부재의 휨거동 및 곡률연성지수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 속빈 부분의 크기($b_i/b_o$ 또는 $h_i/h_o$)가 0.5이하일 때에는 곡률연성지수가 일정하게 유지되며, 0.7이상이 되면 곡률연성지수가 급격히 감소하였다. 또한, 복부에 철근을 배치하면 곡률연성지수가 감소하며 단철근 보에서와 같은 수준의 연성지수를 얻기 위해서는 복부에 배치한 철근과 같은 양을 상부플랜지에 배치해야 하는 것으로 나타났다.

Inter-story pounding between multistory reinforced concrete structures

  • The influence of the inter-story structural pounding on the seismic behaviour of adjacent multistory reinforced concrete structures with unequal total heights and different story heights is investigated. Although inter-story pounding is a common case in practice, it has not been studied before in the literature as far as the authors are aware. Fifty two pounding cases, each one for two different seismic excitations, are examined. From the results it can be deduced that: (i) The most important issue in the inter-story pounding is the local effect on the external column of the tall building that suffers the impact from the upper floor slab of the adjacent shorter structure. (ii) The ductility demands for this column are increased comparing with the ones without the pounding effect. In the cases that the two buildings are in contact these demands appear to be critical since they are higher than the available ductility values. In the cases that there is a small distance between the interacting buildings the ductility demands of this column are also higher than the ones of the same column without the pounding effect but they appear to be lower than the available ductility values. (iii) It has to be stressed that in all the examined cases the developed shear forces of this column exceeded the shear strength. Thus, it can be concluded that in inter-story pounding cases the column that suffers the impact is always in a critical condition due to shear action and, furthermore, in the cases that the two structures are in contact from the beginning this column appears to be critical due to high ductility demands as well. The consequences of the impact can be very severe for the integrity of the column and may be a primary cause for the initiation of the collapse of the structure. This means that special measures have to be taken in the design process first for the critically increased shear demands and secondly for the high ductility demands.

Fe-Ni-Co 코바 합금의 고온변형거동에 미치는 합금원소(Mn, Mo, B) 첨가의 영향 (Effect of Alloying Elements(Mn, Mo, B) on the High Temperature Deformation Behavior of Low Thermal Expansion Fe-Ni-Co Alloy)

  • The effect of alloying elements(Mn, S, Mo, B) on the high temperature deformation behavior of Fe-29%Ni-17%Co (Kovar) alloy were investigated. And the effect of high temperature oxidation on the hot ductility was also studied. The hot ductility of Kovar alloy was drastically increased with the addition of Mn and lowering of S content. It has been found that the brittle intergranular fracture at high temperature cracking is closely associated with the FeS sulfide along the grain boundary. When Mn was added, the type of sulfide was changed to MnS from FeS and ductile intergranular fracture and transgranular fracture were promoted. The formation of oxide layer was found to have minimized the hot ductility of the Kovar alloy significantly. Grain boundary micro-cracks in the internal oxide region were noted following deformation due to high temperature, one of which acting as a notch that caused the poor hot workability of the oxidized specimen. The addition of Mo to the Kovar alloy could also retard the decrease in the hot ductility of the oxidized specimen through the prevention of notching due to internal oxidation. Hot ductility was remarkably improved by the addition of Boron. The improvement of hot ductility results from the grain boundary migration mainly due to the dynamic recrystallization at lower temperature range ($900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$).

Design for moment redistribution in FRP plated RC beams

  • Assessing the ductility of reinforced concrete sections and members has been a complex and intractable problem for many years. Given the complexity in estimating ductility, members are often designed specifically for strength whilst ductility is provided implicitly through the use of ductile steel reinforcing bars and by ensuring that concrete crushing provides the ultimate limit state. As such, the empirical hinge length and neutral axis depth approaches have been sufficient to estimate ductility and moment redistribution within the bounds of the test regimes from which they were derived. However, being empirical, these methods do not have a sound structural mechanics background and consequently have severe limitations when brittle materials are used and when concrete crushing may not occur. Structural mechanics based approaches to estimating rotational capacities and rotation requirements for given amounts of moment redistribution have shown that FRP plated reinforced concrete (RC) sections can have significant moment redistribution capacities. In this paper, the concept of moment redistribution in beams is explained and it is shown specifically how an existing RC member can be retrofitted with FRP plates for both strength and ductility requirements. Furthermore, it is also shown how ductility through moment redistribution can be used to maximise the increase in strength of a member. The concept of primary and secondary hinges is also introduced and it is shown how the response of the non-hinge region influences the redistribution capacity of the primary hinges, and that for maximum moment redistribution to occur the non-hinge region needs to remain elastic.

Effect of spiral spacing on axial compressive behavior of square reinforced concrete filled steel tube (RCFST) columns

  • Spiral spacing effect on axial compressive behavior of reinforced concrete filled steel tube (RCFST) stub column is experimentally investigated in this paper. A total of twenty specimens including sixteen square RCFST columns and four benchmarked conventional square concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns are fabricated and tested. Test variables include spiral spacing (spiral ratio) and concrete strength. The failure modes, load versus displacement curves, compressive rigidity, axial compressive strength, and ductility of the specimens are obtained and analyzed. Especially, the effect of spiral spacing on axial compressive strength and ductility is investigated and discussed in detail. Test results show that heavily arranged spirals considerably increase the ultimate compressive strength but lightly arranged spirals have no obvious effect on the ultimate strength. In practical design, the effect of spirals on RCFST column strength should be considered only when spirals are heavily arranged. Spiral spacing has a considerable effect on increasing the post-peak ductility of RCFST columns. Decreasing of the spiral spacing considerably increases the post-peak ductility of the RCFSTs. When the concrete strength increases, ultimate strength increases but the ductility decreases, due to the brittleness of the higher strength concrete. Arranging spirals, even with a rather small amount of spirals, is an economical and easy solution for improving the ductility of RCFST columns with high-strength concrete. Ultimate compressive strengths of the columns are calculated according to the codes EC4 (2004), GB 50936 (2014), AIJ (2008), and ACI 318 (2014). The ultimate strength of RCFST stub columns can be most precisely evaluated using standard GB 50936 (2014) considering the effect of spiral confinement on core concrete.

  • Hot ductility behavior of precipitation-hardened low-carbon iron alloys containing 0.02 wt% Ti and 0.05 wt% Nb was characterized by a hot tensile stress test. Carbon (0.05, 0.1, 0.25 wt%) and boron (0.002 wt%) contents were varied to study the effect of precipitates on the high-temperature embrittlement of the alloys in the temperature range of $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$. Ductility loss was observed at $700^{\circ}C$ for the tested alloys. The cause of the ductility loss was mainly attributed to the carbides and ferrite films formed at the grain boundaries during deformation. Although the carbon content tended to raise the total fraction of Nb (C, N), the precipitates were formed mostly in the grain interior as the precipitation temperature was raised above the deformation temperature by the high carbon content. Hence, carbon in excess suppressed the hot ductility loss. Meanwhile, boron addition improved the hot ductility of the alloys. The improvement is likely due to the boron atoms capturing carbon atoms and thus retarding the carbide formation.

Ductility demands of steel frames equipped with self-centring fuses under near-fault earthquake motions considering multiple yielding stages

  • This paper investigates the ductility demands of steel frames equipped with self-centring fuses under near-fault earthquake motions considering multiple yielding stages. The study is commenced by verifying a trilinear self-centring hysteretic model accounting for multiple yielding stages of steel frames equipped with self-centring fuses. Then, the seismic response of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems following the validated trilinear self-centring hysteretic law is examined by a parametric study using a near-fault earthquake ground motion database composed of 200 earthquake records as input excitations. Based on a statistical investigation of more than fifty-two (52) million inelastic spectral analyses, the effect of the post-yield stiffness ratios, energy dissipation coefficient and yielding displacement ratio on the mean ductility demand of the system is examined in detail. The analysis results indicate that the increase of post-yield stiffness ratios, energy dissipation coefficient and yielding displacement ratio reduces the ductility demands of the self-centring oscillators responding in multiple yielding stages. A set of empirical expressions for quantifying the ductility demands of trilinear self-centring hysteretic oscillators are developed using nonlinear regression analysis of the analysis result database. The proposed regression model may offer a practical tool for designers to estimate the ductility demand of a low-to-medium rise self-centring steel frame equipped with self-centring fuses progressing in the ultimate stage under near-fault earthquake motions in design and evaluation.

철골 연성 모멘트 골조의 연성계수 및 강도계수 평가 (Evaluation of Ductility and Strength Factors for Special Steel Moment Resisting Frames)

  • 본 연구에서는 철골 연성 모멘트 골조에 대하여 반응수정계수(R)의 핵심 구성요소인 연성계수 및 강도계수를 평가하였다. 철골 연성 모멘트 골조에 대한 연성계수($R_{{\mu},MDOF}$) 는 단자유도 구조물에 대한 연성계수($R_{{\mu},SDOF}$)에 다자유도 보정계수($R_M$)를 곱하여 산정하였다. 단자유도 구조물에 대한 연성계수($R_{{\mu},SDOF}$)는 지진하중을 받는 탄소성 단자유도(SDOF) 구조물의 목표 변위 연성비와 주기에 따른 비선형 동적해석으로부터 산정하였다. 통계적 연구와 회귀분석으로부터 연성계수를 산정하기 위한 평가식이 제시되었다. 다자유도의 영향을 고려하기 위한 보정계수($R_M$)는 기존의 연구결과로보터 회귀분석을 이용하여 구하였다. 철골 연성 모멘트 골조에 대한 강도계수는 비선형 정적해석으로부터 산정하였다. 철골 연성 모멘트 골조의 연성 계수 및 강도계수를 평가하기 위하여, 구조물의 층수(4, 8 및 16층), 지진구역계수(Z=0.075, 0.2 및 0.4), 골조 시스템(외곽골조 및 분배골조) 및 붕괴 메카니즘(강기둥-약보 및 약기둥-강보)을 설계 매개변수로 하여 총 36개의 예제구조물을 설계하였다. 철골 연성 모멘트 골조의 연성계수 및 강도계수에 이러한 설계 매개변수가 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.

고강도 재료를 사용한 철근콘크리트 보의 모멘트-곡률관계 및 곡률연성지수 평가 (Evaluation on Moment-Curvature Relations and Curvature Ductility Factor of Reinforced Concrete Beams with High Strength Materials)

  • 콘크리트 및 철근의 강도는 철근콘크리트 부재의 휨거동 및 연성에 많은 영향을 주며, 설계기준에서는 항복강도가 600 MPa인 고강도 철근의 사용이 허용되고 있다. 고강도 콘크리트가 RC부재의 휨거동에 미치는 영향에 대해서는 많은 연구가 진행되었으나, 고강도 철근에 대해서는 연구가 미흡한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 고강도 콘크리트 및 철근을 사용한 직사각형 단면 RC 보 단면의 모멘트-곡률 관계를 해석적 방법으로 구하여 다양한 철근 배치 조건하에서 콘크리트 및 철근의 강도가 부재의 휨거동 및 곡률연성지수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 부재의 철근 배치조건에 따라 콘크리트와 철근의 강도가 부재의 휨거동 및 연성지수에 미치는 영향은 다르게 나타났다. 공칭모멘트가 동일한 단면에서는 철근의 항복강도가 400 MPa에서 600 MPa로 증가하면 연성지수는 30% 이상 감소하고, 콘크리트 압축강도가 30 MPa에서 70 MPa로 증가하면 연성지수는 약 3배 증가하였다.

고강도 강재 적용 I-거더의 부모멘트부 휨연성 평가 (Evaluation of Flexural Ductility of Negative Moment Region of I-Girder with High Strength Steel)

  • I-거더 형식의 연속교 교각 부근에서는 큰 부모멘트가 작용하게 되며 이로 인하여 소성힌지가 생성된다. 소성힌지가 형성됨에 따라 교각 부근의 부모멘트는 감소하게 되며, 정모멘트부의 휨모멘트는 반대로 증가하게 된다. 이러한 모멘트 재분배가 원활히 발생하기 위해서는 소성힌지가 충분한 휨연성 혹은 단면회전 능력을 가지고 있어야 한다. 하지만 고강도 강재에 있어 재료연성이 다소 떨어지는 경향이 있고, 재료의 항복응력이 증가할수록 I-거더의 탄성 변형량은 이에 비례하여 증가하므로, 소성변형 능력 및 휨연성이 감소하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서, 고강도 강재를 I-거더 형식의 연속교에 적용할 때 동일한 수준의 휨연성을 확보할 수 있는 방안에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석 및 실험 연구를 통하여 항복강도 680 Mpa급 강재 적용 I-거더의 휨연성 평가 및 휨연성 확보 방안에 대하여 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과 재료의 인장 강도가 증가함에 따라 탄성 변형이 증가하며 소성 변형 능력이 저하됨으로 I-거더의 휨연성이 현저하게 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며, I-거더의 휨연성 확보를 위하여 부등간격으로 가로보를 배치하는 방안을 제안하였다. 최종적으로 가로보부등배치가 I-거더의 휨연성에 미치는 영향을 실험적으로 검증하였다.
