  • This study presents results from an experimental work for two normal prestressed concrete beams and three dual prestressed concrete beams. The dual prestressed concrete beams made with normal concrete in compression zone and high performance steel fiber reinforced concrete in partial depth of tension zone. Through cyclic loading test under low frequency, structural behavior and resistance to dynamic loading for dual prestressed concrete beams are investigated. Considerable increase of crack and yield load capacity of Dual prestressed concrete beam is shown compared with normal prestressed concrete beam. In addition, re-loading and un-loading rigidity of dual prestressed concrete beam under cyclic loading are increased comparing with normal prestressed concrete beam.

  • Reinforced dual concrete beam (RDC beam) is the reformed system that improves the overall structural properties of beam by partially applying high performance steel fiber reinforced concrete (HPSFRC) in the lower tension part of conventional reinforced concrete beam (RC beam). Fatigue test was done to prove the structural superiority of RDC beam. As a result of fatigue test, the deflection of RDC beam was decreased obviously and the slope of number of cycle-deflection relation curve of RDC beam was increased gently in comparison with RC beam.

  • The reinforced concrete(RC) beam is developed cracks because the compression strength of concrete is strong but the tensile strength is weak. The structural strength and stiffness is decreased by reduction of tension resistance capacity of concrete due to the developed cracks. Using the fiber reinforced concrete that is increased the flexural strength and tensile strength at tensile part can enhance the strength and stiffness of concrete structure and decrease the tensile flexural cracks and deflection. Therefore, The reinforced concrete used the fiber reinforced concrete at tensile part ensure the safety and serviceability of the concrete structures. In this study, analytical model of a dual concrete beam that is composed of the normal strength concrete at compression part and the high tensile strength concrete at tensile part is developed by using the equilibrium condition of forces and compatibility condition of strains and is parted into elastic analytical model and ultimate analytical model. Three group of test beam that is formed of one reinforced concrete beam and two dual concrete beams for each steel reinforcement ratio is tested to examine the flexural behavior of dual concrete beams. The comparative study of total nine test beams is shown that the ultimate load of a dual concrete beams relative to the reinforced concrete beams have an increase in approximately 30%. In addition, the initial flexural rigidity, as used here, refer to the slope of load-deflection curves in elastic state is increased and the deflection is decreased.

  • The cracks are developed in reinforced concrete(RC) beams at the early stage of service load because of the relatively small tensile strength of concrete. The structural strength and stiffness are decreased by reduction of tensile resistance capacity of concrete due to the developed cracks. • I-section prestressed concrete(I-PC) beam crack due to low tensile strength, may decrease rigidity and structural performance by excessive deflection. In an effort to this problem, in this research, I-section prestressed dual concrete(I-PDC) beam has been proposed, consisting of normal strength concrete in compression zone, and high performance steel fiber reinforced concrete(HPSFRC) with a bottom flange depth in tensile zone. Crack formation and its propagation are controlled by the HPSFRC in I-PDC beam. The initial cracking and service limit loads are increased along with the load carrying capacity and flexural stiffness.

  • In this study, reinforced dual concrete beam (RDC beam) composed of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) in the tension part and normal strength concrete (NSC) in the compression and remaining part is proposed. It is the epochal structural system that improves the overall structural performances of beam by partially superseding the steel fiber reinforced concrete in the lower tension part of conventional reinforced concrete beam (RC beam). Flexural and shear tests are performed to prove the structural excellence of RDC beam in comparison with RC beam. An analytical method is proposed to understand the flexrual behavior and is compared to experimental results. And for shear behavior, experimental results are compared to empirical equations predicting the ultimate shear strength of full-depth fiber reinforced concrete beam to examine the behavior of RDC beam under shear. From this studies, it is proved that RDC beam has more superior structural performance than RC beam, and the analytical method for flexural behavior agrees well with experimental results, and the partial-depth fiber reinforcements have no noticeable effect on ultimate shear strength but it is considerably effective to control and prevent evolutions of crack.

  • In this paper, finite element with embedded discontinuous line is introduced in order to avoid the difficulties of adding new nodal points along with crack growth in discrete crack model. With the discontinuous element using discontinuous shape function, stiffness matrix of finite element is derived and dual mapping technique for numerical integration is employed. Using the finite element program made with employed algorithms, algorithm is verified and fracture analysis of simple concrete beam is performed.

  • In the case of seismic-resistant composite dual moment resisting and eccentrically braced frames, the current design practice is to avoid the disposition of shear connectors in the expected plastic zones, and consequently to consider a symmetric moment or shear plastic hinges, which occur only in the steel beam or link. Even without connectors, the real behavior of the hinge may be different from the symmetric assumption since the reinforced concrete slab is connected to the steel element close to the hinge locations, and also due to contact friction between the concrete slab and the steel element. At a larger level, the structural response in the case of important seismic motions depends directly on the elasto-plastic behavior of elements and hinges. The numerical investigation presented in this study summarizes the results of elasto-plastic analyses of several steel frames, considering the interaction of the steel beam with the concrete slab. Several parameters, such as the inter-story drift, plastic rotation requirements and behavior factors q were monitored. In order to obtain accurate results, adequate models of plastic hinges are proposed for both the composite short link and composite reduced beam sections.

  • Currently in precast concrete construction, precast concrete and cast-in-place concrete with different concrete strengths are used. However, current design codes do not provide shear design methods for PC-CIP hybrid members using dual concrete strengths. In the present study, the shear strengths of beams using dual concrete compressive strengths (24 MPa, 60 MPa) were tested. The test variables were the area ratio of the two concretes, longitudinal bar ratio, and shear span-to-depth ratio. The shear strengths of test specimens were evaluated by current design methods, using an effective concrete strength (considering the area ratio of the two concrete strengths). The test result showed that when 60 MPa concrete was used in the compressive zone and the longitudinal bar ratio was low, the shear strengths of the test specimens were less than the predictions. On the basis of the results, design recommendations were provided for the shear design of the PC-CIP hybrid beams.
