Drying Shrinkage Properties of Latex Modified Concrete (라텍스 개질 콘크리트의 건조수축특성)

  • Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface is a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to study the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), W-C ratios, and curing days at a same controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature. Test results revealed that the drying shrinkage of latex modified concrete(LMC), rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) was considerably lower than that of ordinary portland cement concrete(OPC), rapid-setting cement concrete(RSC), respectively. This may be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic and colloidal properties of the latexes, resulting in reduced water evaporation.

  • This study investigated about several mix factors came up to drying shrinkage and carbonation of high flowing concrete using viscosity. The results are as follows; Drying shrinkage ratio of high flowing concrete using viscosity showed higher for early age, but lower than normal concrete as long age. Also, drying shrinkage ratio and reduction ratio of mass showed higher and relative dynamic modulus of elasticty showed lower as W/C was higher generally. And in case of high flowing concrete using viscosity, carbonation wasn't confirmed without the kinds of cement and viscosity except 50C.

The Effects of Washing and Drying on the Dimensional Stability of Woven Fabrics with and without Spandex (세탁 및 건조과정에 의한 스판덱스 혼방 직물의 변형 비교)

  • There is increased interest in clothes dryers and garments made of spandex-blend woven fabrics; however, there is limited information available for the laundering and drying these clothes. This study investigates the effects of washing and drying on shrinkage, skewness, and wrinkle for woven fabrics with and without spandex. When spandex with good elastic recovery was blended, the deformed shape from washing and drying improved skewness and wrinkle by easily returning to its original shape. However, these properties had a negative effect on shrinkage in terms of length and area change. When the influence of clothes maintenance was classified, the drying process had the biggest influence of 58%, followed by spinning-rinsingwashing. Tumble drying, in which the fabric is exposed to mechanical force and heat for a long period, had more negative effects on the dimensional stability than line drying. The spandex blend had the effect of preventing skewness and wrinkle in garments, but it was also shown to accelerate shrinkage by garment maintenance cycles. It was important to control drying in order to reduce shrinkage during the maintenance process; consequently, this had the greatest influence on the dimensional stability of fabrics. Therefore, line drying was more advantageous for spandex-blend fabrics than tumble drying in terms of management for shrinkage, skewness, and wrinkle.

Influence of Shrinkage Reducing Agent on Drying Shrinkage of Mortar (모르타르의 건조수축에 미치는 수축저감제의 영향)

  • The study is to examine the drying shrinkage reducing method of mortar using organic shrinkage reducing agent. According to the experiment result, when 2% and 4% of organic shrinkage reducing agent were added, 40% and 50% of the shrinkage rate of mortar were obtained. Also, in the cracking test of plate-shape specimen, the usage of shrinkage agent 2% reduced about 60% of the total cracking length compare to total cracking length the usage of portland cement, the usage of shrinkage agent 4% was not happened crack until 90 days. Accordingly, the usage of shrinkage agent show good effect in prevention of crack.

  • The effects of polymer-cement ratio, antifoamer agent content and shrinkage-reducing agent content on the drying shrinkage of polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder are examined. As a result, irrespective of the antifoamer content, the drying shrinkage of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tend to decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content. Such a drying shrinkage development is due to the effect of reducing water from incorporation of EVA redispersible polymer powder and antifoamer agent.

  • This paper presents the results of drying shrinkage of concrete using shrinkage-reducingadmixture(DSRA) studied by the authors through mock-up test. DSRA is proportioned by expansive admixture and shrinkage reducing agent(SRA). Flowing concrete method is also applied to assist the concrete to reduce drying shrinkage by decreasing water content at the same time. The use of EA and SRA does not affect fluidity, bleeding and setting time. Compressive strength of concrete using EA along with SRA exhibited less than that of plain concrete. However, The compressive strength with combination of EA-SRA along with flowing concrete method shows comparable to that of plain concrete. The application of developed method can contribute to reducing drying shrinkage by as much as 30-40$\%$ compared with that of plain concrete.

  • It is necessary to maximize the durability of Concrete for the underground structure because its maintenance and reinforcement are difficult. For cracks due to drying shrinkage of the concrete on the characteristics of the material, there is a need for an alternative in the deterioration phenomenon that occurs. In this study, fundamental properties including drying shrinkage of mortar and concrete were investigated to replace fine aggregate from cooling slag for reducing drying shrinkage of mortar and concrete. In the case of rapid cooling slag fine aggregate, it was effective to reduce and restrain initial shrinkage of mortar and concrete, and compressive strength was increased through the all specimen in proportion to its replacement ratio.

Comparison of Measurement Methods and Prediction Models for Drying Shrinkage of Concrete (콘크리트 건조수축 측정 방법 및 예측 모델에 대한 비교)

  • In this study, the drying shrinkage strains were compared of 24~60 MPa concrete specimens subjected to various curing conditions and measurement methods were compared. And, the applicability of the test and prediction methods were investigated. According to the results, drying shrinkage was significantly reduced in 28 day curing condition. In the sealed curing case, drying shrinkage strain from demolding time was identical to the one of the standard curing case for low strength concrete, however, drying shrinkage strain was greatly increased than the standard case for high strength case because of the effect of autogenous shrinkage. The efficient measurement was possible using the embedded gage for concrete drying shrinkage, but, the measured value by contact gage was lower than the one by the embedded gage. The test results agreed with EC2 model better than the other.

  • This study was executed to find the applicability of press drying of tree disk by investigating the shrinkage and drying defect and to form appropriate model by comparing the actual moisture content(MC) and internal temperature in respect of drying time with calculated values based computer simulation to which was applied finite difference method. In press drying disk, heating period, constant drying rate period maintained plateau temperature at 100$^{\circ}C$ and falling drying rate period were significantly distinguished. Actual MC and internal temperature were analogous to those calculated at comparing points. Heat transfer model formed by Fourier's law using specific heat of moist wood and conduction coefficient considering fractional volume of each element of wood cell wall, bound water, free water and air showed applicability as basic data to developing heat expansion, shrinkage and drying stress during press drying. Also mass transfer model formed by Fick's diffusion law using water vapor diffusion coefficient showed applicability. Longitudinal shrinkage was developed by pressure of hot press and tangential shrinkage was restrained by hygrothermal recovery. The heart check, surface check and ring failure were occurred differently in species, but V-shaped crack didn't develop.

  • Restraint to drying shrinkage is the most common cause of concrete cracking. In many applications, drying shrinkage cracks are inevitable. In this paper, the surface cracks of soil concrete caused by drying shrinkage were considered to become an one of concrete textures. So, laboratory shrinkage tests were conducted and the results were applied to the field applications. The study results were summarized as follows; First, the use of vinyl sheets and concrete polymers helped to control the concrete cracking. Second, crack propagation usually started at the interfaces of soil concrete slabs and the cracks grew to the inner slabs.
