Microstructures and Drying of the Alumina Green Body by the Gel-Casting Method (Gel-Casting으로 제조한 알루미나 성형체의 건조와 미세구조)

  • The effects of the dispersion, drying, and binder burning-out on the green-microstructures of gelcasted alumina were studied. The slip consisting of 55 vol% alumina powder and 5 wt% organic materials was well-dispersed by adding 0.28 wt% polyelectrolyte polymer. Green bodies were dried at >85% relative humidity at room temperature. Green-microstructures were observed to be depended on the heating rate during binder burnout. Constant drying rate was not observed in drying process of gelcasted alumina. Sintered body showed its relative density higher than 99% when it was sintered at 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours.

Process Optimization of Red Pepper Drying for the Improvement of Drying Efficiency (건조효율 향상을 위한 고추건조공정의 최적화)

  • Drying process in a fixed bed red pepper dryer was modeled and simulated. Drying efficiency describing the effectiveness of energy usage in red pepper drying was defined as a ratio of energy used for moisture evaporation to total energy consumption, and expressed in combination of measurable temperature variables. The efficiency was compared with real evaporative efficiency and tested in the simulated and experimental drying. An overall drying efficiency was derived, and analyzed for various control variables consisting of drying temperature, air recycle ratio and air flow rate. Optimal operation conditions of drying was then searched by Box's complex method by using it as an objective function. Carotenoids retention was simulated and put as a constraint of product quality in the optimization. The optimization results gave that two staged drying operation could improve the ding efficiency compared with single staged drying. As a technique for further energy saving automatic termination of drying appeared feasible by monitoring an exit air temperature from dryer.

  • The photovoltaic ribbon attached the flux reduces the solar module manufacturing process and the pollution. This paper presents an analytical method for solving the continuous flux drying system of photovoltaic ribbon. Also, some experiments of the drying of photovoltaic ribbon are carried out in order to design the drying system. Numerical results indicate the air temperature, the air velocity, the air pressure and the timewise temperature variation of ribbon during drying process. In case of the drier process length is short, 400mm, the photovoltaic ribbon is wet. Thus, another study of drying system is necessary to improve the drying ability. As a result, multi-stage drier system is proposed and shown to be good drying ability.

  • In this study, the quality characteristics of different drying methods of Cirsium setidens Nakai, which contains large amounts of biological substances, were investigated for the improvement of their practical use. During the drying period, the weight reduction was the highest with hot-air drying(82.7%). As for the general component and mineral contents analysis results of Cirsium setidens Nakai, there were no significant difference. Cyclic low pressure drying resulted highest amount of total phenolic components and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Hence, cyclic low pressure drying method is the best method for enhancing antioxidant activity of Cirsium setidens Nakai.

Changes in Days to Drying and Some Chemical Components by Different Drying Methods in Paeoniae radix (건조방법에 따른 작약근 건조 소요일수 및 성분 변화)

  • Seven different drying methods were tested in peony roots of Euisung cultivar, harvested in February, in three year's old plant. The roots were selected in length and diameter and half of the samples were removed cork-layers to compare the effects of cork-layer in processing of drying. The 3$0^{\circ}C$ heat drying without cork-layer reduced in days to drying by five days compared to those of the with cork-layers at the same temperature. The 5$0^{\circ}C$ heat drying after cork-layers removed was the most effective in days to drying. In quality of skin color of the 5$0^{\circ}C$ heating was worse to compare with the lower drying temperature. In the drying at room temperature and the heat drying at lower temperature, the paeoniflorin content in drying after cork-layers removed were higher than that of the drying with cork-layers. However, in the boiling water treatment, the paeoniflorin contents in drying after cork-layers removed were lower than those of with cork-layers. In heat drying, paeoniflorin content showed a decreasing tendency to increase of drying temperature. Total sugars in the peony roots showed a decreasing tendency according to the drying temperature increasing, but starch concentration showed a increasing tendency at the same condition. Concentrations of crude protein, crude fiber and crude ash were showed no differences in various drying methods and the materials with or without cork-layers. Relationships between the paeoniflorin and total sugars, and the paeoniflorin and starch were different significantly by the materials of cork-layers removed or not. The 30~4$0^{\circ}C$ heat drying without cork-layers was the most advisable condition for drying in paeoniflorin concentration, days to drying and skin color after drying.

  • In recent, Kimchi is produced in the scale of industry, Consumers show increased demand of safety and high quality and hygienic process control. So, sun drying, hot air drying and cold air drying methods were investigated to compare the demand Sun drying took 96 hrs, hot air drying took 4 hrs at $70^{\circ}$ and cold air drying took 102 hrs at $10^{\circ}C$ in removing water to $90\%$ from radish. Brownness of radish was expressed as absorbance. Absorbance were 0.20, 2.04 and 1.87 and also Vit-C contents were 0.14 mg/g, 0.12 mg/g and 0.096 mg/g in dried radish according to cold air drying, hot air drying and sun drying, respectively. From overall experimental results, cold air drying method was found as superior drying method to other drying methods.

Field Application of the Concrete with the Combination of Drying Shrinkage-Reducing Superplasticizer and Double Layer Bubble Sheet (건조수축 저감형 유동화제 및 2 중 버블시트를 사용한 콘크리트의 현장적용)

  • This study investigates the filed application in Daebul Free Trade Zone applying both a flowing method using drying shrinkage-reducing superplasticizer(SRS) and an insulating curing method using double layer bubble sheet. Test results showed that fresh concrete satisfied target slump and air content. A structure adding SRS significantly decreased the total bleeding capacity and accelerated the setting time. As for the crack occurrence, the structure applying the flowing method and double bubble sheets simultaneously exhibited the most favorable crack endurance, while conventional concrete showed more than 1mm size of crack in overall. In addition, a structure applying the flowing concrete method partially presented the micro crack. For the area proportion of crack occurrence, the structure using the double bubble sheets indicated 9.8%, while others applying flowing concrete method was 28%, compared with that of conventional one. For the compressive strength of specimens, standard curing specimens indicated $3{\sim}33%$ higher value than that of specimens cured besides the field construction. The specimens containing SRS improved the strength of $2{\sim}6MPa$, which is $10{\sim}22%$ higher than that of conventional concrete.

Effect of Cultivar , Harvest Date and Drying Method on the Quality of Spring Harvest Oat Hay (품종 , 수확시기 및 건조제처리가 춘계수확 연맥건초의 사료가치에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was canied out to determine the effect of cultivar, harvest date and drying method on the changes of moisture content and quality of spring harvest oat(Avena sativa L.) hay. Disign of the experiment was a spilt-split-plot arrangement with early and late cultivars as main plots, early and late harvest dates as sub-plots, and drying agent and tedding as sub-subplots in three replications. Moisture content of early harvest oat was higher than that of late harvest oat by 127.1% dry weight(DW) in 'Swan' and 39.8%DW in 'Foothill'. Moisture content difference between 'Foothill' and 'Swan' was 117.6%DW at early and 204.9%DW at late harvest dates, respectively. Cultivar effect on moisture content of cut oat was higher at late harvest date, but drying method effect was higher at early harvest. Total nitrogen content of early harvest was higher than that of late harvest by 0.70% and that of 'Foothill' was higher than that of 'Swon' by 0.86%. But no difference in total nitrogen content was found between the drying method. ADF and NDF contents were increased at late harvest by 29% and 1 I%, respectively(P<0.05). ADF and NDF contents of 'Swan' were higher than those of 'Foothill' by 2.8% and 4.5%, respectively. No difference in ADF and NDF contents was obtained by drying methods. RFV of early harvest oat hay was 95.1 and 103.8 for 'Swan' and 'Foothill' but late harvest 'Swan' and 'Foothill' showed 74.8 and 85.0, respectively.

Quality Characteristics of Osmotic Dehydrated Sweet Pumpkin by Different Drying Methods (건조방법에 따른 삼투처리 단호박의 품질 특성)

  • This study was conducted to develop intermediate material for new processed food from sweet pumpkin. Osmotic dehydration was carried out as pretreatment before drying. After the sweet pumpkins were pretreated under optimized osmotic dehydration conditions, they were dried by three drying methods (hot air drying, vacuum drying and cold air drying). The moisture contents of dried sweet pumpkin products by osmosis treatment (sucrose) and hot air drying, vacuum drying, and cold air drying were 14.48, 14.09 and 13.87%, respectively. Cold air drying preserved more vitamin C content and showed lower color difference than hot air drying and vacuum drying. As a result of microscopic analysis, cold air dried sweet pumpkin was observed regular tissue, while hot air and vacuum dried sweet pumpkins were observed a cell collapse following the loss of water.
