Drying Rate of Natural Paint Made by Rosin Using HORUS (HORUS를 이용한 천연페인트의 건조속도)

  • To investigate the drying behaviors of the water-based natural coating made by rosin during drying, the mass transfer and optical change from speckle image and speckle rate were measured and the relationship between two analysis methods were investigated. At a linear scale, the speckle rate measured by HORUS related with the mass transfer of coating during drying, and the speckle rate at a log scale was included not only drying time, but also drying mechanism of coating during drying. Therefore, the HORUS was an available method to investigate the drying time and drying mechanism of coating during drying.

  • RFID method is a non-contact automatic identification technology, which attaches microchips and antennas to an object in a tag form, to send and process information sent to the network using wireless frequency. Drying and curing process is extremely important which minimizes the resistivity of RFID antennas. This research is about the drying characteristic of conductivity ink, and analyzes and compares the hot-air drying process and infrared drying process. Also, the research was done for the improvement in drying performance by using combined process of hot-air and infrared mechanism. The experiment result shows that the hot-air or infrared drying system used alone cannot meet the required performance in drying printing method using conductivity ink. The combined drying system of hot-air and infrared ray showed resistance low enough in short drying and curing time, and this mechanism makes drying and curing process for mass and continuous production possible on-line.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and commercialize a paddle-type fluidized dryer. The drying system used in this study, was designed to attach a paddle-type fluidized mixer to a dryer. The drying system is based on the drying method to generate thermal contacts, as fluidized layers are generated due to a paddle mechanism. Accordingly, the time of drying is short and material damage is very little. Also, the drying system operates as a closer system so it can be utilized not only for food and chemical materials, but also for environmental pollution materials. According to its performance test, the drying system is possible to dry low-moisture contents and its drying performance is outstanding. In conclusion, the drying system designed for this study, is likely to have great potential for commercialization.

  • The vacuum drying process for drying of paper in current transformers was modeled with an aim to develop an understanding of the drying mechanism involved and also to predict the water collection rates. A molecular as well as macroscopic approach was adopted for the prediction of drying rate. Ficks law of diffusion was adopted for the prediction of drying rates at macroscopic levels. A steady state and dynamic mass transfer simulation was performed. The bulk diffusion coefficient was calculated using weight loss experiments. The accuracy of the solution was a strong function of the relation developed to determine the equilibrium moisture content. The actually observed diffusion constant was also important to predict the plant water removal rate. Thermo gravimetric studies helped in calculating the diffusion constant. In addition, simulation studies revealed the formation of perpetual moisture traps (loops) inside the CT. These loops can only be broken by changing the temperature or pressure of the system. The change in temperature or pressure changes the kinetic or potential energy of the effusing vapor resulting in breaking of the loop. The cycle was developed based on this mechanism. Additionally, simulation studies also revealed that the actual mechanism of moisture diffusion in CT's is by surface jumps initiated by surface diffusion balanced against the surrounding pressure. Every subsequent step in the cycle was to break such loops. The effect of change in drying time on the electrical properties of the insulation was also assessed. The measurement of capacitance at the rated voltage and one third of the rated voltage demonstrated that the capacitance change is within the acceptance limit. Hence, the new cycle does not affect the electrical performance of the CT.

  • A two-dimensional mathematical model was developed to predict the temperature and moisture-content profiles of a tumble dryer during infrared drying. The model is based on the movements of liquid water and moisture in the object and on the fluid and heat transfer in the drying air. The model was solved by the finite volume analysis for the fluid, temperature, and radiation intensity fields. After deriving the governing equations and developing the two-dimensional tumble dryer models, numerical investigations were carried out to examine the effects of various parameters such as the heater temperature and the heating patterns on the drying mechanism of the tumble dryer. All the results show that the drying time can be reduced by using the IR heater.

  • In this paper, drying mechanism is analyzed for improving the energy efficiency of an electric clothes dryer which consumes more electric power than other appliances. For the purpose, characteristic curves of the dryer such as temperature, relative humidity, evaporation rate, mass transfer coefficient, remaining moisture content curves are experimentally obtained. Based on the experimental results and analysis of drying mechanism, the effect of power of a heater and heat loss on the power consumption of an electric clothes dryer are systematically presented. These results demonstrate the feasibility of controlling heat loss at the heater as well as the backduct component to decrease the power consumption of an electric clothes dryer.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new type dryer, which is to proceed mixing and drying of wet-materials at the same time and drying process is carried out in a closed system. In this drying system, thermal contact occurs, when a fluidized zone is created by paddle mechanism. Accordingly, wet-materials is dried in a short time without any damage. Also wet-materials could be dried uniformly to low moisture contents. It is suitable to dry a small quantity of multi-kind materials. And drying process is carried out in a closed system, so as for environmental pollution dust not to be emitted into the atmosphere. Accordingly, it could be used to dry not only food and chemical materials, but also environmental pollution materials.

Modeling and parameter estimation of a fish-drying control system

  • The major purpose here is to estimate the drying time required in the fish-drying process employed. The basic element of the prediction of the drying time is the model or the equation, which governs the change in weight. By an intuitive consideration on the mechanism of dehydration, a mathematical model of the fish-drying process is built, which is described by a system of linear differential equations. Further, a modified system of linear differential equations for a model of drying is also proposed for more accurate estimation. The parameter estimation of this system of equations provides the prediction of necessary drying time.

An Experimental Study for Dryer (건조기 고안 제작에 관한 연구)

  • A newly devised dryer with heated air for the farm products, especially suited for high water content materials such as red pepper, Beer ground, each Vegetables, and Low water content materials such as Rough rice was tested for its thermal efficiency and drying mechanism, and the optimum conditions for each sample were established. In order to improve the present rural situation of drying farm products which entirely dependent upon natural solar radiation, a study upon an economic multi-parpose dryer was conducted. A series of drying tests were run first with red pepper which is one of the important cash crop in Korean farm. And successive series of tests were also run with such proaucts as garlic, sweet potatoes, green onion, radish, Beer ground and Rough rice. The results from the above experiment in drying system with heat dryer can be summarized as follows. 1. Drying duration could be shortened by the tempering effect in high water content crop such as red pepper and beer ground. 2. The color changes occured in around 20% water content in red pepper. The degree of color change was heavily affected by high temperature and short drying duration. 3. The drying condition of red pepper was most favourable at the temperature of 85$^{\circ}C$ in early stage and 80$^{\circ}C$ in middle stage and 75$^{\circ}C$ at the final stage, and with the air rate of 0.81㎥/sec and with sample amount of 200kg. 4. The drying condition of Rough rice(I.R.667) was most favourable at the templature of 40$^{\circ}C$ in early stage and 35$^{\circ}C$ in middle stage and final stage and with the air rate of 0.2㎥/sec and with sample amount of 75kg. 5. In order to prevent the color change of red pepper and to assure high efficiency in drying mechanism, it was necessary to lower the temperature as the time passes in drying process. 6. For vege tables, the drying rate were short in early stage and there was also tempering effect. However, for garlics, Constant drying rates through the early and final stages were observed and there were no tempering effects. 7.
