Calibration transfer between miniature NIR spectrometers used in the assessment of intact peach and melon soluble solids content

  • The transfer of predictive models using various chemometric techniques has been reported for FTNIR and scanning-grating based NIR instruments with respect relatively dry samples (<10% water). Some of the currently used transfer techniques include slope and bias correction (SBC), direct standardization (DS), piecewise direct standardization (PDS), orthogonal signal correction (OSC), finite impulse transform (FIR) and wavelet transform (WT) and application of neural networks. In a previous study (Greensill et at., 2001) on calibration transfer for wet samples (intact melons) across silicon diode array instrumentation, we reported on the performance of various techniques (SBC, DS, PDS, double window PDS (DWPDS), OSC, FIR, WT, a simple photometric response correction and wavelength interpolative method and a model updating method) in terms of RMSEP and Fearns criterion for comparison of RMSEP. In the current study, we compare these melon transfer results to a similar study employing pairs of spectrometers for non-invasive prediction of soluble solid content of peaches.

  • The tribological role of mass transfer layer was studied with silver coatings under various ranges of load and sliding speed. Silver coating was performed with a functionally gradient coating method. Tests were per-formed in dry sliding conditions, using a ball-on-disk contact configuration, at the load of 0.0196-17.64 N and the sliding speed of 20-1,000 mm/s in ambient air. Optical microscope and EPMA analyses showed that contact surfaces were covered with the mass transfer layers of agglomerated wear particles depending upon the contact conditions, and they greatly influenced the tribological characteristics of the surfaces. However, the formation of mass transfer layer was suppressed as the sliding speed increased, and above a critical sliding speed, no mass transfer layer was able to form. For building up a general framework of triboiogical behavior of the coated silver films, all test data were summarized on a map whose axes are contact pressure and sliding speed.

  • The effect of silver particles on the sliding behavior of bearing steels was studied experimentally by using a ball-on-disk tribometer. Tests were performed in ambient air, dry air and vacuum. Disks of AISI 52100 were silver-coated by a thermal evaporation method, and the effects of silver particle transfer on friction were analyzed. In order to understand further the mechanism of silver particle transfer and its effect on friction and wear, pre-compressed silver particles were artificially introduced into the friction interface and the results were compared to those of silver-coated specimens. Results showed that the introduced silver particles produced transfer layers and resulted in low friction. It also showed that this low friction is closely related to the characteristic behavior of transfer layers. Shakedown occurred at the friction interface affected the friction and wear.

  • An experimental study on the air-side pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient of slit fin-tube heat exchanger has been carried out. The data reduction methodology for air-side heat transfer coefficients in the literature is not based on a consistent approach. This paper focuses on new method of data reduction to obtain the air-side performance of fin-tube heat exchanger using R22 and recommends standard procedures for dry surface heat transfer estimation in fin-tube heat exchanger having refrigerant on the tube-side. Results are presented as plots of friction f-factor and Colburn j -factor against Reynolds number based on the fin collar outside diameter and compared with previous studies. The data covers a range of refrigerant mass fluxes of 150~250 kg/$m^2$s with air flows at velocity ranges from 0.6 m/s to 1.6 m/s.

편평관군 열교환기에서의 응축 열전달 및 압력강하 특성해석 (Numerical Analysis on the Condensation Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Characteristics of the Flat Tube-Bundle Heat Exchanger)

  • A numerical analysis was carried out on the heat and mass transfer, and pressure drop characteristics of the modular tube bundle heat exchanger. The finite volume method with a $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model was used for the analysis. Due to condensation, the total heat transfer rate is observed about $4\~8\%$ higher than that on dry surfaces. Total heat transfer rate increases with increase in the velocity, temperature and relative humidity of incoming air. It also increases with decreasing the aspect ratio of heat exchanger tube. The inlet velocity of cooling water has little effect on the total heat transfer when the other conditions are fixed.

Thermal analysis of certain accident conditions of dry spent nuclear fuel storage

  • Thermal analysis of accident conditions is an important problem during safety assessment of the dry spent nuclear fuel storage facilities. Thermal aspects of accident conditions with channel blockage of ventilated storage containers are considered in this article. Analysis of flow structure inside ventilated containers is carried out by numerical simulation. The main mechanisms of heat and mass transfer, which take part in spent nuclear fuel cooling, were detected. Classification of accidents on the basis of their influence on the maximum temperatures inside storage casks is proposed.

수평관 외벽에서 친수성 표면처리가 응축열전달에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Hydrophilic Surface Treatment on Condensation Heat Transfer at the Outside Wall of Horizontal Tube)

  • Condensation heat transfer characteristics have been investigated experimentally when a water vapor is condensed on the outside of a horizontal copper tube in a condenser. This problem is of particular interest in the design of a LiBr-water absorption system. Hydrophilic surface modification was performed to increase the wettability on the copper tube. The optimum hydrophilic treatment condition using acethylene and nitrogen as reaction gas is also studied in detail. The results obtained indicate that the optimum reaction gas ratio of acethylene to nitrogen for hydrophilic surface modification was found to be 7 : 3 for the best condensation heat transfer. In the wide ranges of coolant inlet temperatures, and coolant mass flow rates, both the condensation heat transfer rate and the condensation heat transfer coefficient of a hydrophilic copper tube are increased substantially, compared with those of a conventional copper tube used in a condenser. It is also found that the condensation heat transfer enhancement by the hydrophilic surface modification still emains even after a hundred cycles of wet/dry processes.

우리나라 주요 밭작물에 대한 $^{99}Tc$의 토양-작물체 전이계수 (Soil-to-Plant Transfer Factors of $^{99}Tc$ for Korean Major Upland Crops)

  • 우리나라 주요 밭작물(콩, 무, 배추)에 대한 $^{99}Tc$의 토양-작물체 전이계수(TF)를 조사하기 위하여 온실 내에서 포트실험을 수행하였다. 토양은 경주 방폐장 주변 네 곳(콩 두 곳, 무 및 배추 두 곳)의 밭에서 채취하였다. 파종 3-4 주 전에 건조 토양을 $^{99}Tc$ 용액과 혼합한 다음 포트에 담고 관개하였다. TF 값은 건조 토양 중 $^{99}Tc$ 농도(Bq $kg^{-1}$-dry)에 대한 작물체 내 농도(Bq $kg^{-1}$-dry or fresh)의 비로 나타내었다. TF 값은토양 간에 큰 차이가 없었다. 콩알의 TF 값은 경엽부에 비해 극히 낮아 $^{99}Tc$의 종실로의 이동성이 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 콩알, 무 뿌리, 무 잎 및 배추 잎에 대한 $^{99}Tc$ 전이계수의 대표치가 각각 두 토양에 대한 산술평균치인 $1.8{\times}10^{-1}$, $1.2{\times}10^1$, $3.2{\times}10^2$, $1.3{\times}10^2$(건조 작물체 기준)로 제안되었다. 채소류의 경우 신선 작물체에 대한 대표치도 제안되었다. 본 제안치는 대표성이 충분치 못하므로 지속적으로 최신화 할 필요가 있다.

발전용 저 NOx 가스터빈의 연소 불안정 안정화에 관한 연구 (Stabilization of Abnormal Combustion of Dry Low NOx Gas Turbine Combustor for Power Generation)

  • 희박 예혼합 연소방식을 채용한 150MW급 대형 저 NOx 가스터빈 연소기에서 발생하는 급격한 연소진동 발생을 저감하였다. 희박 예혼합 연소기에서는 연소튜닝이 적절히 이루어지지 많은 경우에 연소불안정에 기인한 높은 연소진동의 발생과 함께 NOx 배출량이 높아질 가능성이 있다. 대상 가스터빈의 연소 모드 전환 중에 발생하는 연소진동의 주파수와 크기는 각각 80Hz및 4-9psi로 나타났으며, 대기온도가 낮아짐에 따라 연소진동의 크기가 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 연소진동에 영향을 미치는 인자로서 버너노즐로 공급되는 연료유량을 균등화하기 위한 연소튜닝과 연소모드 전환시 연료라인에 연료를 미리 공급(prefilling)하는 것이 화염안정에 매우 큰 효과가 있었다. 그 결과 연소모드 전환 중에 발생하는 연소진동을 2.5psi까지 저감할 수 있었으며, 150 MW기저부하 운전 중에 NOx 발생량을 35-43ppm(15% $O_2$)으로 유지할 수 있었다.
