The aim of this research was to manufacture sludge-particle board using paper sludge with wood particle and to investigate physical and mechanical properties of various sludge-particle boards, fabricated with ratios of sludge to particle of 10 to 90, 20 to 80, 30 to 70, 40 to 60 and 50 to 50(oven dry weight based). Sludge-particle boards were manufactured by urea-formaldehyde resin, 0.8 target specific gravity, and 10mm thickness. It was possible to manufacture sludge-particle board as the same processing in the present particleboard manufacturing system. This sludge-particle board have different properties as composition ratios of sludge and particle. And sludge-particle board made from 10 percent to 20 percent of sludge mixing ratio have similar mechanical properties compared with control particleboard. Especially, the sludge-particle board made from 10 percent to 40 percent mixing ratios of sludge have superior to control particleboard in internal bond, screw withdrawal holding strength and modulus of elasticity. In the case of dimensional stability, water absorption was increased and thickness swelling was decreased as increased with sludge mixing proportion. The sludge-particle board made of different mixing ratios of our laboratory design was able to concluded that there is possibility of partial substitution of wood particle materials.

An elephant digests only around 30~45% of what it consumes; therefore the undigested material mainly passes as intact fibres. Elephant food is usually composed of grass, leaves, twigs, bark, fruit and seed pods. This research aimed to utilize the elephant dung fibers as material for composite board and citric acid as a bonding agent. Citric acid contents in this research were set at 0 wt% (binderless composite board), 10 wt%, 20 wt%, and 30 wt% based on dry weight particles, while the target density was set at $0.8g/cm^3$. Pressing temperatures were set at $180^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ with the pressing time was 10 minutes. Physical and mechanical properties tests were then performed according to Japanese Industrial Standard A 5905. The result showed that elephant dung fibers could be used as potential materials for composite board. Addition of citric acid and pressing temperature significantly increased the quality of composite board. Infrared analysis indicated that the presence of ester linkages much higher with the increasing of citric acid content and pressing temperature. The optimum properties of composite board made from elephant dung fibers could be achieved at pressing temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ and a citric acid content of 20 wt%.
Korea's traditional house type, the Hanok, has been the essence of Korean domestic culture for hundreds of years. However, Hanok, have begun to disappear as result of urbanization. Because mud walls are crude and weak in water walls are also easily broken by impact. There are further problems in that construction cost is expensive and takes more time than modern house construction, and that the maintenance of Hanok is more difficult than people sometimes predict. Despite much interest in Hanok construction, there is a lack of in younger generation. Thus seeking new ways of maintaining Korea's traditional housing culture and extending Korean traditional houses is important. This study proposes directions for creating new residential environments for the future generation of Korea. A Dry-wall alternative to the Korean traditional mud wall is particularly needed. Dry-walling, made by sustainable materials such as mud board and wood, can strengthen the advantages and make up for the weaknesses of the Korea traditional mud wall. In this study, both wall types underwent various evaluations in terms of their performance in insulation testing, freezing and thawing testing, impacting testing and weight measuring (the size of material in this experiment was $69cm{\times}105cm$). On all of these tests, findings revealed that the dry-wall alternative performed better than traditional mud wall.
For finding both ways of recycling the wood and plastic wastes and solving the problem of free formaldehyde gas emission through manufacturing wood particle-polypropylene fiber composite board without addition of formaldehyde-based thermosetting resin adhesive, control particleboards and nonwoven web composite boards from wood particle and polypropylene fiber formulation of 50 : 50, 60 : 40, and 70 : 30 were manufactured at density levels of 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8 g/$cm^3$, and were tested both in the physical and mechanical properties according to ASTM D 1037-93. In the physical properties, control particleboard had significantly higher moisture content than composite board. In composite board, moisture content decreased with the increase of target density only in the board with higher content of polypropylene fiber and also appeared to increase with the increase of wood particle content at a given target density. Control particleboard showed significantly greater water absorption than composite board and its water absorption decreased with the increase of target density. In composite board, water absorption decreased with the increase of target density at a given formulation but increased with the increase of wood particle content at a given target density. After 2 and 24 hours immersion, control particleboard was significantly higher in thickness swelling than composite board and its thickness swelling increased with the increase of target density. In composite board, thickness swelling did not vary significantly with the target density at a given formulation but its thickness swelling increased as wood particle content increased at a given target density. Static bending MOR and MOE under dry and wet conditions increased with the increase of target density at a given formulation of wood particle and polypropylene fiber. Especially, the MOR and MOE under wet condition were considerably larger in composite board than in control particleboard. In general, composite board showed superior bending strength properties to control particleboard, And the composite board made from wood particle and polypropylene fiber formulation of 50 : 50 at target density of 0.8 g/$cm^3$ exhibited the greatest bending strength properties. Though problems in uniform mixing and strong binding of wood particle with polypropylene fiber are unavoidable due to their extremely different shape and polarity, wood particle-polypropylene fiber composite boards with higher performance, as a potential substitute for the commercial particleboards, could be made just by controlling processing variables.
Litter wastes on highway runoff are gradually being considered one of the major pollutants of concern in protecting the integrity of receiving waters for beneficial use. The California State Water Resources Control Board has identified in their 303(d) list at least 36 water bodies where trash or litter is considered a pollutant of concern. The first TMDL adopted by the Region 4 (Los Angeles area) of the California State Water Quality Control Board was for trash in the Los Angeles River. The first flush characteristic study was developed to obtain first flush water quality and litter data from representative stormwater runoff from standard highway drainage outfalls in the Los Angeles area. Total captured gross pollutants in stormwater runoff were monitored at six Southern California highway sites over two years. The gross pollutants were 90% vegetation and 10% litter. Approximately 50% of the litter was composed of biodegradable materials. The event mean concentrations show an increasing trend with antecedent dry days and a decreasing trend with total runoff volume or total rainfall. Event mean concentrations were ranged 0.0021 to 0.259g/L for wet gross pollutants and 0.0001 to 0.027g/L for wet litters. The first flush phenomenon was evaluated and the impacts of various parameters such as rainfall intensity, drainage area, peak flow rate, and antecedent dry period on litter volume and loading rates were evaluated. First flush phenomenon was generally observed for litter concentrations, but was not apparent with litter mass loading rates. Litter volume and loading rates appear to be directly related to peak storm intensity, antecedent dry days and total flow volume.
Currently, in Korea, a dry food simulant has not been designated for the migration testing of paper and board, food contact materials (FCMs) being used in dry foods, and foods heated at ultra-high temperature. Considering the diverse usage of FCMs, in order to secure reliable and confident safety evaluation and to overcome the non-trade barrier tariff in worldwide trade, migration testing methods of what should be more clearly defined for securing and overcoming. This article delves into the available literature on the use of $Tenax^{(R)}$ as a simulant for dry foods as well as its suitability and limitations, and examines the feasibility of its introduction into Korean FCMs regulation. Most experimental studies using $Tenax^{(R)}$ showed overestimated migration values when used in real foods, which reflects the potential of $Tenax^{(R)}$ as a dry food simulant in a worst-case scenario. However, more studies are required to optimize migration testing using $Tenax^{(R)}$ by standardizing the solvent type and the extraction method for surrogates of various FCMs and foods, and to resolve the potential drawbacks in the use of $Tenax^{(R)}$.

In order to secure the variability of long-life housing, dry walls are used. The composite gypsum board panel is the most frequently used infill system for the wall, and it is an excellent construction method in terms of constructability and economic feasibility. However, there are also problems such as the destruction of Ondol pipes at the bottom floor and being unable to fix the light weight steel frame (M-bar) when a variable composite gypsum board panel is used. To solve such problems, a wall with a method of fixing only the top part without fixing the bottom floor is developed, but it is difficult to identify the durability of ceiling frame according to the tensile force of stud and the safety according to the Stiffness and impact resistance (soft body) of ceiling frame. Therefore, this study verified the effectiveness of infill system for the wall by conducting experiment on the stiffness and impact resistance of composite gypsum board panel according to the reinforcement of ceiling frame (wooden frame, double saw-toothed bracket, Cross M-bar). As a result, it was possible to secure the safety of wooden frame while the impact resistance and the Stiffness of double saw-toothed bracket and cross M-bar were not secured.
