Seated Amitabha Triad at Muwisa Temple (Treasure No. 1312) had been known as wooden Buddha statue, but a precise safety inspection revealed that the statue is terracotta Buddha statue made with clay. The clay layer of Amitabha Triad was conserved due to its severe damage. In this study, experiments were conducted to produce the most appropriate filler for the conservation treatment of the seated Amitabha Triad. Mixed clay samples with various ratios were produced and surface hardening state, crack, color change, and shrinkage of the samples during dry process were measured. Loess, fine sand powder, and cotton were used to produce the mixed clay for the filler with six different ratios and then 12 different concentration glues made with glutinous rice glue, Pachymeniopsis Elliptica glue, and animal glue were added as adhesives. Total 72 types of samples were prepared and comparative study was conducted. As a result, when the mixed clay contains 2.5% cotton compared to the weight per cent of loess and fine sand powder and also loess and fine sand in the mixed clay have a 15:1 ratio, the mixed clay had the lowest shrinkage. Animal glue is considered as an appropriate glue since it had small color change, low physical property change and shringkage. Therefore, mixed clay (loess:fine sand=15:1) mixed with 15ml animal glue is likely to be a suitable filler for conservation treatment of the seated amitabha triad at the Muwisa Temple.
Today, the use of special technologies in the admixture of concrete has made tremendous progress, but the problem that has always existed in the construction of concrete members is the brittleness and lack of loading bearing after cracking, which leads to reduced strength and energy absorption. One of the best ways to fix this is to reinforce the concrete with steel fibers. Steel fibers also control cracks due to dry shrinkage, reduce structural crack width, and improve impact resistance. In this study, recycled steel fibers from worn tires have been used in the manufacture of concrete samples, the secondary benefits of which are the reduction of environmental pollution. One of the disadvantages of steel fiber reinforced concrete is the corrosion of steel fibers and their deterioration in harsh environments such as coastal areas. Corrosion caused by chlorine ions in metal fibers causes deterioration and early decommissioning of structures in corrosive environments. In this study, the effect of the dosage of steel fibers (dosages of 15, 30, and 45 kg of fibers per cubic meter of concrete) and aspect ratio of fibers (aspect ratio of 25 and 50) on compressive and flexural strength of concrete samples are investigated. In the following, the effect of fiber corrosion on the results of the mechanical properties of concrete samples is examined. The results show that the increase in fiber causes a relative increase in compressive strength, and a significant increase in flexural strength, and corrosion of steel fibers without reducing workability reduces compressive strength and flexural strength by up to 6 to 11%, respectively.

The present study investigates the chemical reaction and performance of ternary blended binders by mixing ferronickel slag. Cement was replaced using ground granulated blast furnace slag and ferronickel slag, combined up to 50% of the replacement rate. The blended cements were tested by setting times, length change, compressive strength at 1, 3, 7, 28 days. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope were conducted for detecting hydration products while the MIP and microhydation heat were used for examining morphological characteristics. The results showed that by adding ferronickel slag, Pozzolanic reaction occurred, forming a dense pore structure and the effect of reducing hydration heat and dry shrinkage was also found. The compressive strength at 28 days was lower than that of 100% OPC control specimen (OSP0), but ternary blended cements showed no significant difference compared to binary blended (OSP50). If the optimal mix is derived later and used for the purpose, the potential for use as a cement binder is expected.

Expansive soils are renowned for their swelling-shrinkage property and these volumetric changes resultantly cause huge damage to civil infrastructures. Likewise, subgrades consisting of expansive soils instigate serviceability failures in pavements across various regions of Pakistan and worldwide. This study presents the use of polypropylene fibers to improve the engineering properties of a local swelling soil. The moisture-density relationship, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and elastic modulus (E50), California bearing ratio (CBR) and one-dimensional consolidation behavior of the soil treated with 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8% fibers have been investigated in this study. It is found that the maximum dry density of reinforced soil slightly decreased by 2.8% due to replacement of heavier soil particles by light-weight fibers and the optimum moisture content remained almost unaffected due to non-absorbent nature of the fibers. A significant improvement has been observed in UCS (an increase of 279%), E50 (an increase of 113.6%) and CBR value (an increase of 94.4% under unsoaked and an increase of 55.6% under soaked conditions) of the soil reinforced with 0.4% fibers, thereby providing a better quality subgrade for the construction of pavements on such soils. Free swell and swell pressure of the soil also significantly reduced (94.4% and 87.9%, respectively) with the addition of 0.8% fibers and eventually converting the medium swelling soil to a low swelling class. Similarly, the compression and rebound indices also reduced by 69.9% and 88%, respectively with fiber inclusion of 0.8%. From the experimental evaluations, it emerges that polypropylene fiber has great potential as a low cost and sustainable stabilizing material for widespread swelling soils.

This study is to develop a high quality lightweight foamed concrete that can be applied in the field using EXFG by cracking reducing agent combined with FGD and ALS. First, to increase the volume of foam, the flow and density of the mixture was increased and decreased, respectively. At this time, the effect of substitution ratio of EXFG on fluidity was negligible. The fraction of foam was the highest at EXFG 1%, and the settlement was found to be prevented by the expansion reaction at EXFG 1%. At this time, the ratio of foam was 65%. In the compressive strength, the strengths were similar or decreased when the substitution ratio of EXFG was more than 1%. The apparent density satisfied the KS 0.5 type at the bubble contents was 65%. In case of EXFG substitution, dry shrinkage was decreased by about 10%. As the substitution ratio of EXFG increased, the thermal conductivity increased proportionally.
Properties of normal-strength mortar containing coarsely-crushed coal bottom ash considering standard particle size distribution of fine aggregate were investigated. Mortar containing raw bottom ash was applied as a reference. By crushing the bottom ash with a particle size larger than fine binder but smaller than fine aggregates, i.e., coarse-crushing, water absorption and specific gravity of the particles could be controlled as similar levels to those of natural fine aggregates. Workability and strength of the mortar were not changed and even increased when the coarsely-crushed bottom ash was added considering standard particle size distribution in Standard Specification for Concrete, while those were decreased when raw bottom ash was added without any treatment. When a replacement ratio of coarsely-crushed bottom ash was less than 30 vol.%, there were no significant decrease in dynamic modulus of elasticity and dry shrinkage of the mortar.
Physical, mechanical and deteriorating properties of Phellodendron amure were investigated. Air dried density located indoor was 0.41 but $0.43g/cm^3$ outdoor. In oven dry shrinkage, T/R ratio for located indoor was 1.40 but 1.32 outdoor. Hygroscopic property at $40^{\circ}C$ with 90% relative humidity was 16.30% for indoor and 15.80% for outdoor. Compressive strength for outdoor conditioned sample was 43.81 MPa but 40.33 MPa for indoor conditioned. Also bending strenght for outdoor conditioned was 84.63 MPa but 68.80 MPa for indoor conditioned. Impact strength was 3.43 and $4.00J/cm^2$ indoor and outdoor, respectively. Hardness at cross-section was 47.92 and 49.20 MPa indoor and outdoor, respectively. With one-year conditioning at indoor or outdoor, there was no significantly different in strength properties, which came from strong resistance for deterioration. Also Phellodendron amure wood showed dimensionally stable raw material based on low T/R ratio.

This study will not only prove experimental dynamic properties which are classified to slump, compressive strength, tensile strength, flexure strength and toughness granite soil concrete with a fine aggregate of granite soil and blast-furnace cement and polypropylene fiber over 45 mm, but also establish a basic data in order to use environment-friendly pavement through prove useful pavement mixed with granite and polypropylene (PP) fiber which is a kind of material to prevent a dry shrinkage clack, a partial destruction and useful and light. The value of slump test was gradually increased by PP fiber volume 3 $kgf/m^3$, but compressive strength took a sudden turn for the worse from 5 $kgf/m^3$. The compressive strength indicated a range of 13.72~18.35 MPa. On the contrary to compressive strength, the tensile strength showed to decrease with rising PP fiber volume, and the tensile strength indicated a range of 1.43~1.64 MPa. The tensile strength was stronger about 2~15 % in case of mixing with PP fiber volume than normal concrete. The flexural strength indicated a range of 2.76~3.41 MPa. The flexural strength was stronger about 20 % in case of PP fiber volume 0 $kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume 9 $kg/m^3$. The toughness indicated a range of 0~25.46 $N{\cdot}mm$ and increased proportionally with PP fiber volume. The toughness was stronger about 8.3 times in case of PP fiber volume 9 $kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume 1 $kg/m^3$. The pavement with PP fiber volume over such a fixed quantity in the park roads and walkways can have a effect to prevent not only resistance against clack but also rip off failures.
To investigate the effect of presurfacing, both 25mm rough and pre surfaced oak boards (Quercus grosseserrata BI.) were dried in the same dry kiln condition. Drying curves, drying strains and drying defects of rough and presurfaced boards were compared. The results obatained are as follows. 1. Average drying rate of rough and presurfaced boards from green to 10% M.C. was 0.276%/hr. and 0.284%/hr., respectively. 2. At the early stage of drying, in case of rough boards, maximum tensile strain of outer slices was $-24.2{\times}10^{-4}$mm/mm and maximum compressive strain of innermost slices was $13.0{\times}10^{-4}$mm/mm, and in case of pre surfaced boards, maximum tensile strain of outer slices was $-14.5{\times}10^{-4}$mm/mm and maximum compressive strain of innermost slices was $28.1{\times}10^{-4}$mm/mm. And in both cases, stress reversal occurred at about 40% M.C.. 3. Maximum surface checking appeared at about 40% M.C.. Of the 10 rough boards. 6 hoards contained surface checks, but presurfaced boards did not contained surface checks after drying. And the results of end checking were similar to those of surface checking. But, honeycomb was not found in both cases. 4. Board shrinkage. warp and casehardening of presurfaced boards were similar to those of rough boards. But, collapse of prsurfaced boards was less than that of rough boards.
Dry shrinkage md temperature change cause to develope concrete bridge decks on main girders have initial unidirectional cracks in longitudinal or transverse direction. As they receive traffic loads, the crack gradually propagate in different directions depending on the concrete dimension and reinforcement ratio. Since existing equations that predict crack width are mostly based on the one directional bond-slip theory, it is difficult to determine the actual crack width of a bridge deck with varying the spacing of rebar or strengthening material and to estimate the improvement rate in serviceability of the strengthened bridge deck. In this study, crack propagation mechanism is identified based on the test results and a new crack prediction equation is proposed for evaluation of serviceability. Although more accurate results are derived using the proposed equation, the extent of error is increased as the strain of the rebar or the strengthening material increases after the yielding of rebar Therefore, further research is required to better predict the crack width after the rebar yields under fatigue loading condition.
