Histological and ultrastructural differentiations of the neuroepithelial cells in the mouse embryo during neurulation were observed. The neural plates and grooves consisted of pseudostratified columnar epithelium in the embryonic day (ED) 8 embryo were developed. In the ED 9 embryo, the neural tube was developed in all body length of embryo except both the cephalic and caudal ends. Secondary neurulation was shown at the tail bud of the ED 10 embryo. In the ED 8 embryo, the primitive streak was shown in the posterior end of the embryonic disc. The neuroepithelium, notochord and mesenchyme were well differentiated in the cephalic and cervical portions. In the ED 9 and 10 embryos, the roof plates of neural tubes were constituted of the closing of the surface ectodermal cells in the hindbrain and the neuroepithelial cells in the spinal cord. The floor plate of neural tube were consisted of the low pseudostratified columnar epithelium. The spinal motor nerve fibers were initially differentiated in the ED 10 embryo. According to the electron density of the cell and the differentiation of tell organelles, the neuroepithelial cells in the ED 9 and 10 embryos were classified into three types: dark, intermediate and light types. All types in the ED 9 embryo were observed but the dark cell in the ED 10 embryo was not done. The free ribosomes and polysomes in all neuroepithelial cells were developed. The RER and lipid droplets in the dark cell and the Golgi complex in the intermediate and light cells were observed. Many microfilaments in the cytoplasmic processes of intermediate cell and the microfilaments and microtubules in the light cell processes were observed to be well differentiated.
Oil-in-water(o/w) nanoemulsions were prepared in the system of water/Span 80-Tween 80/long-chain paraffin oil via PIC method. With the increase of preparation temperature from 30 oC to 80 oC, the diameter of emulsion droplets decreased from 150 nm to 40 nm. By varying the HLB of mixed surfactants, we found that there was an optimum HLB around 13.0~14.0 corresponding to the minimum droplet size. The size of emulsion droplets increased upon increasing the ratio of oil/emulsifying agent. At $f{\leq}0.15$, the size of nanoemulsions could be kept constant more than 2 months. The increase in preparation temperature makes it possible for producing monodisperse nanoemulsions. Once the nanoemulsion is produced, the stability against Ostwald ripening is outstanding due to the extremely low solubility of the liquid paraffin oil in the continuous phase.

Characteristics of kerosine spray combustion were investigated at various swirl condition. PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analysis) was used to measure the droplet sizes and velocities. R-type(Platinum vs. Platinum-13%rhodium) thermocouple was used to measure the temperature of combustion flow field inside model combustor. A visualization of spray and flame was performed with still camera. As swirl number increases due to increase of swirl vane angle, the spray and the flame were developed to radial direction rapidly. When swirl number is small, the configuration of flame is cone type, but swirl number is large, the configuration of flame is cylindrical type due to enhanced mixing by the transport of swirl momentum.

In this work, the mixture formation and atomization characteristics of biodiesel fuel were reviewed under various test conditions for the optimization of compression-ignition engine fueled with biodiesel. To achieve these, the effect of nozzle caviting flow, group-hole nozzle geometry and injection strategies on the injection rate, spray evolution and atomization characteristics of biodiesel were studied by using spray characteristics measuring system. At the same time, the fuel heating system was installed to obtain the effect of fuel temperature on the biodiesel fuel atomization. It was revealed that cavitation in the nozzle orifice promoted the atomization performance of biodiesel. The group-hole nozzle geometry and split injection strategies couldn't improve it, however, the different orifice angles which were diverged and converged angle of a group-hole nozzle enhanced the biodiesel atomization. It was also observed that the increase of fuel temperature induced the quick evaporation of biodiesel fuel droplet.

The major interest of this paper is how the spilled oil over the sea is dispersed into water column especially under the shear and turbulence such as breaking wave. Two hydraulic experiments were conducted to investigate the oil stick break-up characteristics into small and large droplets under the variation of velocity shear and breaking waves. From the experiments in the shear generator and the wave flume, small droplets which have diameters of tens to hundreds of micrometers were uniformly distributed throughout the whole control volume as time goes by. In addition, it can be seen that the weathered spilled oil has a different break-up mechanism from fresh spilled oil.

Liquid crystal (LC) system was introduced into W/O emulsion in order to enhance the stability and moisturizing effect. The LC system, composed of beeswax, surfactant, and water was formed on the surface of emulsion droplet, which was investigated through a polarized microscope. The phenomenon that the viscosity in W/O emulsion system is decreased with time, was reduced by the formation of LC with the addition of beeswax. Centrifugal separation test showed that the stability of emulsion system was increased with the addition of beeswax to 3%. The color change of vitamin C was delayed in LC emulsion systems, which indicates stabilization effect against the oxidation of vitamin C. Evaporation rate in W/O emulsion was retarded by LC, so that high moisturizing effect is expected in W/O LC system.

Myelophycus simplex Papenfuss is distributed over the northern Pacific and southern coast of Korea, and is a member of the brown algae family. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of M. simplex methanol extract on adipocyte differentiation and adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Treatment with M. simplex methanol extract significantly suppressed terminal differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner, as confirmed by a decrease in lipid droplet content observed by Oil Red O staining. Also, the M. simplex methanol extract significantly suppressed the triglyceride content of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner. Treatment with 300 and $500{\mu}g/ml$ of M. simplex methanol extract caused a 42% and 76% reduction in lipid droplet content, respectively. In order to understand the anti-adipogenic effects of M. simplex methanol extract, the changes in the expression of several adipogenic transcription factors, including peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) ${\gamma}$-cytidine-cytidine-adenosine-adenosine-thymidine (CCAAT)/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP) ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$, were investigated using immunoblotting. M. simplex suppressed the expression of $PPAR{\gamma}$, $C/EBP{\alpha}$, and $C/EBP{\beta}$ proteins compared with control. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that M. simplex methanol extract inhibits adipocyte differentiation and thus may have applications as a potential source for an anti-obesity functional food agent.
