  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of speed and azimuth control of a mobile robot with two drive wheels. The proposed control scheme uses a Gaussian function as a unit function in the neural-fuzzy network and back propagation algorithm to train the neural-fuzzy network controller in the framework of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed to a learned controller with two neural-fuzzy networks based on an independent reasoning and a connection net with fixed weights to simplify the neural-fuzzy network. The performance of the proposed controller can be seen by the computer simulation for trajectory tracking of the speed and azimuth of a mobile robot driven by two independent wheels.

  • To obtain a robustness which is one of important characteristics needed in servo drive, the sliding mode control method is used as a control strategy. However, the undesired phenomenon of chattering is a serious problem. In this paper, an adaptive chattering alleviation algorithm for variable structure system control is proposed to solve this serious problem. Digital controller using the theory of chattering alleviation control is applied to the position control problem of an induction motor system. Comparisons of this algorithm with other variable structure system control algorithms indicate that the chattering can be alleviated. This controller is implemented using IBM-PC(8088 CPU) which controls current controlled PWM inverter consisted of IGBT as a switching device to drive motor.

  • This paper suggests a control technique of the sensorless brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive for a vehicle fuel pump application. The sensorless technique based on a comparator and a potential start-up method with high starting torque are proposed. The comparator is used to generate the commutation signals in phase with the three-phase back-EMFs. The rotor position is aligned at standstill for maximum starting torque without an additional sensor and any information of motor parameters. Also, the stator current can be easily adjusted by modulating the pulse width of the switching devices during alignment. Some experiments are implemented on a single chip 16-bit DSP controller to demonstrate the feasibility of the sensorless techniques.

  • A new PWM technique for a two-phase BLDC motor fed by a two-phase eight-switch inverter is proposed in this paper. It is well known that a two-phase eight-switch inverter can significantly improve power output compared with a two-phase six-switch inverter in a two-phase motor drive. To drive the two-phase BLDC motor simply and effectively, two normal PWM strategies are investigated to manage speed regulation. However, under the conditions of low speed and light load, especially during the braking process, the current in a short time of one period is near zero, which is a discontinuous waveform every half period. To solve it, a novel PWM technique is investigated to improve the operational performance of normal technique. Using the new PWM scheme, the current continues every half period and the braking performance is improved. The effectiveness of the proposed PWM method is verified through the experiments.

  • Recently, SRMs are used in automobiles for power assistant steering, accessory motion control and traction drives. Especially in the motion control and traction drives, safety and efficiency are of paramount importance. The paper describes the essential elements faced in designing and constructing driving circuits for a switched reluctance motor for automobiles. An important factor in the selection of a motor and a drive for industrial application is the cost. The switched reluctance motor(SRM) is a simple, low-cost, and robust motor suitable for variable-speed as well as servo-type applications. With relatively simple converter and control requirements, the SRM is gaining an increasing attention in the drive industry. This paper presents a modified C-dump converter for Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) machine application in the cooling system of automobiles. The experiments are performed to verify the capability of applicate control method on 6/4 salient type SRM.

  • Since rotor position information is necessary to drive the SRM, absolute-encoder, resolver and incremental encoder is used to detect a rotor position. But, it is not desirable to use a high price encoder and microprocessor under the condition of the simple driving system when precision control is not demanded. In this paper, only using the reflective type two photo-sensors replaces the conventional opto-interrupter and slotted-disk, which not only remove a slotted-disk section but drive three-phase 6/4 pole SRM bidirectionally, Therefore, control circuit can compose common analog device with low price.

  • This paper presents improved performance on the speed control of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) by using fuzzy logic speed controller. The nonlinear model of SRM is used and the motor used in experiment is a 6/4 SRM. In order to prove the superiority of the fuzzy logic controller, it is applied to make use of Matlab simulation program. And to implement the control method on the SRM drive. DSP(TMS320F240) based SRM speed controller is designed and fabricated. The simulation and experiment results show that FLC is effective in settling time maximum overshoot and torque ripple.

  • This paper presents Hybrid-PI controller of induction motor drive using fuzzy control. In general, PI controller in computer numerically controlled machine process fixed gain. They may perform well under some operating conditions, but not all. To increase the robustness, fixed gain PI controller, Hybrid-PI controller proposes a new method based self tuning PI controller. Hybrid-PI controller is developed to minimize overshoot and settling time following sudden parameter changes such as speed, load torque, inertia, rotor resistance and self inductance. The results on a speed controller of induction motor are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed gain tuner. And this controller is better than the fixed gains one in terms of robustness, even under great variations of operating conditions and load disturbance.

  • Electroluminescence is occurred by electric filed located in the phosphor. Until now most of EL researched have been studied the characteristics of devices that drive over 400Hz and commercialized, but in Problems of life time, natural aging increased with behavior of high frequency in the phosphor. In this paper, we investigated the luminescence characteristics were driven by low frequency($0{\sim}100Hz$). Moreover, we Presented the improvement way in the method device production and drive power as measurement at commercial frequency(60Hz).

  • As the demand for higher areal recording densities requires a lower flying height of the slider, the variation of the flying height of the slider during drive operation becomes of great concern. The variation of the flying height is closely related with the slider design parameters such as air bearing shape, cavity depth, shallow step depth, crown, camber, pitch offset, roll offset, gram load, and so on. The objective of this work is to optimize the cavity depth and the shallow step depth, which are the control factors in air bearing design, using Robust Design method. It was found that the shallow step depth was statistically significant in affecting the variation of flying height, therefore the level of the shallow step depth should be chosen to minimize the variation of flying height.
