방글라데시 지하수 내 비소 오염 현황 및 처리기술 (Current Status and Technologies for Treating Groundwater Arsenic Pollution in Bangladesh)

  • 지하수의 비소(As) 오염은 방글라데시의 주요 문제 중 하나이다. 독성은 부종, 피부암, 방광암, 폐암, 각화 과다증, 조산, 흑사병과 같은 심각한 건강 문제를 야기한다. 지하수의 오염은 주로 인위적 활동의 영향을 받는 지역의 지질학적 특성에서 발생된다. 방글라데시 국민의 대부분이 지하수에 식수를 의존하고 있기에 비소 오염 현황을 조사하고 물이 부족한 지역에 안전한 식수를 제공하기 위하여 비소 처리를 위한 수처리 기술이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 92개의 논문을 기반으로 방글라데시의 지하수 As 오염 관련 최근 현황과 다양한 저비용 정화 기술에 대한 트렌드를 조사하였다. 방글라데시에서 지하수 비소 오염이 가장 높은 지역은 Brahamanbariya, Tangail, Barisal, Pabna, Patuakhali 및 Kurigram등 총 4곳이며, Magura 및 Faridpur 등의 지역에서는 비소 농도가 0.05mg/L를 초과한다. WHO 표준 가이드라인 값(<0.01 mg/L)을 만족하는 지역은 Kushtia, Khagrachari, Jessore, Dinajpur, Meherpur 및 Munshiganj 등 총 6곳으로 나타났다. 수중에서 As를 처리하는 기술이 다양하다. 시간-비용효율적인 처리 방법은 Mg-Fe계 Hydrotalcite와 유사 화합물, electro-chemical As remediation (ECAR) reactor, aerated electrocoagulation 등이 적용되고 있다. 전반적으로 예산, 운영 및 유지 관리 비용, 재료의 가용성 및 전문 지식 요구 사항 등을 고려하여 수질 내 비소를 처리해야 한다.

홍성 북동부 농촌 지역 지하수의 질산성 질소 오염과 수리지구화학적 특성 (Characterization of Nitrate Contamination and Hydrogeochemistry of Groundwater in an Agricultural Area of Northeastern Hongseong)

  • Spatial and temporal characteristics of nitrate contamination and hydrogeochemical parameters were investigated for springs and surficial and bedrock groundwaters in northeastern part of Hongseong. Two field investigations were conducted at dry and wet seasons in 2011 for 120 sites including measurement of field parameters with chemical analyses of major dissolved constituents. Nitrate concentrations were at background levels in springs while 45% of bedrock groundwater and 49% of surficial groundwater exceeded the drinking water standard of nitrate (10 mg/L as $NO_3$-N). The difference in nitrate concentrations between surficial and bedrock groundwater was statistically insignificant. Cumulative frequency distribution of nitrate concentrations revealed two inflection points of 2 and 16 mg/L as $NO_3$-N. Correlation analysis of hydrogeochemical parameters showed that nitrate had higher correlations with Sr, Mg, Cl, Na, and Ca, in surficial groundwater in both dry and wet season. In contrast, nitrate had much weaker correlations with other hydrogeochemical parameters in bedrock groundwater compared to surficial groundwater and had significant correlations only in wet season. Temporally, nitrate and chloride concentrations decreased and dissolved oxygen (DO) increased from dry season to wet season, which indicates that increased recharge during the wet season affected groundwater quality. Aerobic conditions were predominant for both surficial and bedrock groundwater indicating low natural attenuation potential of nitrate in the aquifers of the study area.

제주도와 OAHU도의 지질구조 및 수자원의 특성 (Geological structure and groundwater resources of Cheju and Oahu Island)

  • 제주도와 오아후섬의 지질은 제3기말에서 제4기초 사이에 걸친 화산활동에 의해 형성된 동일형의 화산도라는 점에서 유사한 특성을 갖는다. 이 두 섬의 지하수 산상은 두가지의 기본적인 요소인 화산암의 투수성과 강수량의 지배를 받는다. 그러나 오아후도에서의 지하수 산상은 광역 화산암의 복합 암맥군에 의해 더 많은 영향을 받는다. 제주도와 오아후도의 지하수 부존형태는 두가지로 분류되는데 고지대의 주수와 해안변에 발달된 기저 지하수가 그것이다. 일반적으로 제주도 지하수의 수질은 생활용수로 적합하나 동부 해안지역의 몇개의 지하수 관정은 과잉양수로 인하여 해수가 침입되었으며 1970년 부터 내륙쪽으로 점점 해수의 영향을 받고 있다. 이러한 해수의 오염현상은 오아후섬의 진주만에서도 비슷하다. 제주도의 신선한 지하수체에 현재 발생되고 있는 이러한 해수오염을 방지하기 위해서는 우선 해안지역을 따라 분포하는 지하수 부존 가능성과 그들을 최대한으로 개발하기 위해 지하수의 유동에 대한 연구가 필요하다.

  • To assess preliminarily the contamination potential of water resources including groundwater owing to the hydrogeological characteristics of landfill site and the potential impact to humans and animals through contamination of water resources by leachate, "Landfill Site Preliminary Assessment Model(LASPAS)" was contrived. LASPAS could help them proritization of remediation of landfil sites by the convenient and relatively simple evaluation method of landfill site features. LASPAS was designd to aliot numerical ratings to landfill site related factors undermentioned; 1) hydrogeological factors such as hydraulic conductivity of aquifer, thickness of confining layer over aquifer, topographical slope, net recharge, and subsurface containment 2) water resources contamination factors of impacts on receptors such as proximity to drinking water supply, substitutability of drinking water supply, type of use of water resources, known impact on drinking water supply, and flood potential.

ICP/AES에 의한 먹는물의 무기원소 분석 (Elemental Analysis of Drinking Water with ICP/AES)

  • Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrophotometer (ICP/AES) is a versatile modern instruments for the multi-element analysis, but quantitative analysis using ICP/AES with normal pneumatic nebulizer is not applicable for the measurement of elemental concentrations in water down to the drinkining water standard level except a few elements because of poor detection limits. However, the detection limit can be lowered enough to measure drinking water standard, if ultrasonic nebulizer and/or hydride vapor generator is attached. This method is tested with groundwater samples from Tajeon area. It is confirmed that the elemental concentrations in these samples are within the limit of drinking water standard for the most elements. However, uranium concentration is very high in some samples compared with the concentrations suggested by Environmental Protection Agency of U.S.A. There is no standard concentration level to this element in Korea and it should be prepared immediately.

  • The drying up of seepage in Kumagaya City was caused by the increase of impermeable area with urbanization. The project of rain fall infiltration facilities has been planned for improvement of a hydrological cycle in Kumagaya City. With GIS and remote sensing, the most suitable arrangement for the rainfall infiltration inlets was examined. Distribution maps for infiltration, evapotranspiration and groundwater recharge at each town in Kumagaya City was designed from the land cover classification map with hydrological analysis. In these distribution maps, influence of the leak from drinking water and sewage networks was counted to the hydrological cycle.

  • Fuel oxygenates, such as Methyl tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) is additive in gasoline used to reduce air pollution. Gasoline components and fuel additives can leak form underground storage tanks. MTBE is far more water soluble than gasoline hydrocarbons like BTEX then it travels at essentially the same velocity as groundwater. MTBE in drinking water causes taste and odor problems. Therefore, the purpose of the this study is to examine the ability of ground rubber to sorb MTBE form water. The study consisted of running both batch and column tests to determine the sorption capacity and the flow through utilization efficiency of ground rubber. The result of Column test indicate that ground tire rubber has on the 36% utilization rate. Finally, it is clear that ground rubber present an attractive and relatively inexpensive sorption medium for a MTBE. The Author thought that to determine the economic costs of ground rubber utilization, the cost to sorb a given mass of contaminant by ground rubber will have to be compared to currently accepted sorption media.

Determination of the Concentration and Isotope Ratio of Uranium in Soil and Water by Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry

  • Thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) was used to determine the concentration and isotope ratio of uranium contained in samples of soil and groundwater collected from Korea. Quantification of uranium in ground water samples was performed by isotope dilution mass spectrometry. A series of chemical treatment processes, including chemical separation using extraction chromatography, was applied to the soil samples to extract the uranium. No treatments other than filtration were applied to the groundwater samples. Isotopic analyses by TIMS showed that the isotope ratios of uranium in both the soil and water samples were indistinguishable from those of naturally abundant uranium. The concentration of uranium in the groundwater samples was within the U.S. acceptable standards for drinking water. These results demonstrate the utility of TIMS for monitoring uranium in environmental samples with high analytical reliability.

토양.지하수오염원 관리우선순위 개략평가기법 개발 (Development of Preliminary Assessment Methodology for Priority Listing of Soil and Groundwater Contamination Sources)

  • This study developed preliminary assessment methodology for priority listing of soil and groundwater contamination sources, considering source characteristics, local environments and risk receptors. Source characteristics were evaluated by scoring relative risk of contamination sources. Local environments were evaluated by scoring annual rainfall, hydraulic conductivity of aquifer, and annual groundwater use. Risk receptors were evaluated by scoring local population, direct distance to surface water, direct distance to drinking-water wells. Scores of each parameter were allocated by analysing distribution of parameter values obtained from government databases. Distributed scores of source characteristics local environments: risk receptors were 12 : 12 : 12. The preliminary assessment scored 0 to 36 for each soil and groundwater sources. Inventory of soil and groundwater sources consisted of 7 categories. This study applied the preliminary assessment methodology to Manan-Gu, Anyang City, Korea. The number of car repair and washing facility was the largest in the contamination source inventory. Petroleum storage facilities showed the highest assessment score. The preliminary assessment methodology also indicated that Anyang-Dong was the priority section among Anyang-Dong, Suksu-Dong, Bakdal-Dong. This study is the first trial for relative ranking soil and groundwater contamination sources by considering source and local characteristics. Therefore, further researches and revision of the preliminary assessment methodology need to be pursued for various applications.

지하수 분류도 작성에 의한 서울시 지하수 보전지구 선정\ulcorner관리 방안 연구 (A Study on Designation and Management of Groundwater Conservation Area Using Groundwater Classification Map)

  • 지하수의 보전 보호를 위한 정책 중 가장 중요한 것이 지역적으로 지하수 보전구역을 지정하여 관리하는 것이며, 지하수 보전구역은 지하수법(제12조)에 의하여 지하수 보전지구와 개발제한지구로 분류되어 관리하도록 규정되어 있다. 금번연구에서는 GIS(지리정보시스템)을 이용하여 서울시 지하수 분류도를 먼저 작성한 후 가장 수질이 양호한 1급 및 2급 지하수 대창지역(상류의 지하수 함양지역이나 유일 대수층지역 등)을 지하수 보전지구의 우선 대상지역으로 선정하였으며, 지하수분류는 건설교통부(2000)에서 제시한 지하수의 현재 수질상태, 음용수원으로서의 현재 및 장래 이용성, 기초 수리지질특성, 각종 지하수오염유발행위.시설 소재여부 등에 따라 4등급 분류방법을 기본으로 하였다. 작성된 지하수 분류도에서 1차 선정된 서울시 지하수 보전지구 우선 대상지는 약 57,1$\textrm{km}^2$(서울시 전체면적의 약 9.4%)로 나타났으며, 보전지구의 최종 지정을 위해서는 대상지역에 대한 지하수 정밀조사가 필요하다. 또한 지하수 보전지구의 관리방안도 제주도(2000)와 건설교통부(2000)의 지하수 보전관리계획을 참조하여 서울시에 적합한 안이 마련되었다.
