The sedimentation rate of particles in a suspension is a function of particle size, initial slurry water content and salinity. Many researches conducted on the behavior of dredged soils have centered on such factors. However, there have been few attempts to assess another important influence factor of seasonal water temperature on designing the placement of dredged materials. In this paper, the effect of seasonal water temperature on sedimentation characteristics of dredged clay was investigated with consideration of three different water temperatures, that are $5^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, $35^{\circ}C$, which represent critical water temperatures in winter, spring or fall, and summer, respectively. A series of experimental results reveal that the sedimentation rates for the water temperature of $15^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ are very similar each other, but that of $5^{\circ}C$ that represents a winter season leads to a considerably delayed sedimentation compared to the others. This may be attributable to the retardation of ion-leaching from clay particles at low water temperature.
Lightweight Foamed Soil (LWFS) is a useful material for underground pipe backfill because of reusability of excavated soil and no compaction effect. In this research, a pilot test is carried out and monitoring results are analyzed to investigate behaviors of a flexible pipe, when LWFS is applied as a backfill material. Simultaneously, they are compared with another test case which is backfilled with Saemangeum dredged soil. As a result, the vertical earth pressure of the case backfilled with LWFS slurry presents that decreases as much as 25.6% in comparison with dredged soil and it is only within 10% after solidification. In case backfilled with dredged soil, the horizontal earth pressure is more than 3.6 times of the case used by LWFS and the vertical and horizontal deformation is more than 3.2 and 2.6 times of the case, respectively. It presents excellent effects on earth pressure and deformation reduction of LWFS. The stresses measured at the upper side of the pipe generally present compressive aspects in case backfilled with dredged soil. However, they present tensile aspects in case of LWFS. It is because of negative moment occurred at the center of the pipe due to the buoyancy from LWFS slurry. Conclusively, LWFS using Saemangeum dredged soil is very excellent material to use near the area in comparison with the dredged soil. However, the countermeasure to prevent the buoyancy is required.

Dredged soil from sea has much higher water content than liquid limit of clay and even if small loads apply, it will suffer a great settlement. Therefore it is very difficult to perform a consolidation test with general consolidation apparatus because of high water content. In this study Rowe cell apparatus consolidation tests have been performed with 5 slurry clays of a water content of 100%, 110%, 120%, 133%, and 150%. From the test results the consolidation characteristics such as compression index, secondary compression index, consolidation coefficient, and strain have been investigated with a variation of water content of dredged soil. The equations to get consolidation constants such as a compression index, a coefficient of consolidation, and strain have been proposed with the field water content.

Reinforced concrete structures under sever conditions such as marine structures, bridges and structural constructed with aggregated(dredged front sea). can be deteriorated from corrosion of the reinforcing bars. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the corrosion reflectance of coated steel using polymer dispersion and polymer cement slurry. Polymer dispersion and polymer cement slurry with various polymer types were coated to the surface of bars and steel plate, and tested for accelerated corrosion tests. Tests include adhesion in tension, bending test, chloride ion spray, penetration of NaCl 10% solution and carbonation. From the test results, the corrosive resistance of steel is considerably improved by using polymer dispersion and polymer cement flurry at surface of steel. The difference of the corrosive resistance is hardly recognized according to types of polymer dispersion. The coated steel using polymer dispersion and polymer foment slurry will be improved to a great extent compared to those of plain steel when increasing content of chloride ion in cement concrete.

In this study, two different types of dredged fill injection methods are introduced and filling experiments were conducted to analyze the impact of each technique to the distribution and deposition of dredged soil fill and how it influence the final tube shape. Two transparent plastic tubes were fabricated to observe the deposition behavior of the deposited fill material. Both tubes measured 4.0 meters in length (L) and has vinyl tube diameters (D) of 0.5m and 0.7m. T-type and I-type inlet system are also introduced in this paper. The influence of this inlet systems to the distribution and deposition behavior of dredged soil fill inside the vinyl tubes were observed during the experiment. After the sedimentation of the slurry mixture, the water on top of the soil sediments are removed and the slurry mixture was re-injected into the vinyl tube, this process was carried out repeatedly. The shape changes of the vinyl tube, e.g. the changes in both tube height and width, are constantly monitored after each slurry injection and water draining phases. Crater formation was observed in the case of I-Type inlet system and a non-uniform sediment distribution occurred. For the diffusion deposit of soil particles to long distance are minimal shape technique using the T-Type inlet system. Therefore the undrain filling height ratio ($H/D_0$) was found to be around 0.54 to 0.64 and the horizontal strain ratio ($W/D_0$) ranges from 1.45 to 1.54. The filling soil height is proportional to dredged-material filling phases, but, horizontal strain ratio is constant or inversely reduced so that the center of tube body is raised in the upward direction.

Dredged and reclaimed soft clays form slurry state which is very high water content and very low shear strength, experience large self-weight consolidation, nonlinear compressibility and permeability phenomenon would take place. In this case, a material functions which represent variety effective stress-void ratio-permeability relation (especially very low effective stress), are should be determined to predict nonlinear finite strain consolidation phenomenon forehand In this study, large slurry consolidometer with a 380mm diameter and a 1400mm height which is able to consolidation and permeability test, was developed to determine material function of very soft clay with a 500% initial water content clay, self-weight consolidation and low stress level consolidation (1Kpa, 3Kpa, 6Kpa, 12Kpa) was conducted and after each consolidation step permeability test also conducted. after final consolidation step, a constant rate of strain consolidation was conducted with undisturbed sample obtained from the large consolidometer. On the above result, material function was determined and laboratory test was modelled to evaluate its validity, numerical analysis on th field was compared to other method.

This paper demonstrates settling and further consolidation behaviour of dredged clayey soils during landfilling. The effects of initial moisture content, electrolyte type and concentration on settling and consolidation behaviour were examined and evaluated by laboratory column tests. Electrokinetic tests were carried out with modified settling column to compare the soil behaviour under the gravity. From the testing results, the settling velocity increased due to the effects of cations in the electrolyte solution, and electrically induced settlements were found to be greater than those under the gravity.
Reinforced concrete structures under sever conditions such as marine structures, bridges and structures constructed with aggregates(dredged from sea), can be deteriorated from corrosion of the reinforcing bars. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the anti-corrosive performance of coated steel using polymer cement slurry. Polymer cement slurry with various polymer dispersions and corrosion inhibiting agent were coated to the surface of bars, and tested for accelerated corrosion tests. Tests include immersion in NaCl 10% solution, chloride ion spray, autoclave cure, autoclave cure after carbonation, penetration of NaCl 10 % solution, carbonation after penetration of NaCl 10% solution. Test results, show that the anti-corrosive performace is considerably improved by using polymer cement slurry at surface of steel. And this trend is marked by adding of corrosion inhibiting agent. This difference of the anti-corrosive properties is hardly recognized according to types of polymer dispersions. The coated steel using polymer cement slurry will be improved to a great extent compared to those of plain steel when increasing content of chloride ion in cement concrete.

A series of injection and drainage test were conducted on an circular acrylic tube to investigate the pressure generated by the accumulated fill materials inside a circular acrylic tube structure. The acrylic tube was filled by means of gravity filling with a slurry material having an average water content of 700%. The water head during the filling process was 1.8m and the bottom pressure during initial filling was 20.18kPa. The recorded stress at the sides of the acrylic tube was 17.89kPa during the filling process and was reduced to 13.58kPa during the leaving process. Continuous drainage of the acrylic tube has greatly influenced the stresses around the tube structure. As the water is gradually allowed to overflow, the generated pressure at the topmost pressure sensor of the tube was reduced further to 2.17kPa. Eventually, the initially liquid state slurry material transforms into plastic state after water has dissipated and substantial soil particles are deposited in the acrylic tube. The final water content of the deposited silt inside the acrylic tube after the test was 42%. It was found that the state of stresses(geo-static earth pressures) in the acrylic tube was anisotropic rather than isotropic.
Geotextile tubes hydraulically or mechanically filled with dredged materials have been applied in hydraulic and coastal engineering in recent years(detached breakwater, groins and jetty). The geotextile tubes are made of sewn geosynthetics sheets. If the sandy soil is use to fill material, these inlets should be spaced closely to assure uniform filling of the tubes because sandy soil and geosynthetic is very pervious. However, the clayey soil or contaminated slurry is used, the inlets can be located relatively long distance. The fine clayey particles tend to rapidly blind the fabric slowing down water escape through the geotextile. This paper presents a field test result of a geotextile tube in the land reclamation project for the Songdo New City construction site. The dredged silty clay was dredged by the dredging ship and hydraulically pumped into the geotextile tube. The height of geotextile tube was measured at every filling stage and also measured width and diameter of geotextile tube with the elapsed time. Based on the test results, if the clayey filling material is used, the pumping step must be divided 3~4 stages for drainage and sediment. After complete drainage, the height of the geotextile tube reduces by approximately 50%.
