This paper is to help the students in elementary schools develop and improve their English listening and speaking skills by presenting effective teaching and learning techniques using puppetry. It is absolutely obvious that listening and speaking are very important skills for most EFL students. Using puppets in the classroom is a creative English teaching technique which can involve authentic, communicative language situations. Moreover, puppets appeal to children and can aid in lowering affective filters thereby creating a more comfortable learning environment. The study clearly showed that using puppets is feasible and enjoyable in elementary English classes. However, caution must be exercised in drawing and generalizing conclusions from this experience. The results of the experiment are as follows: First, using puppetry in the English class was found to have positive influence on students' affective domains (interst, attitude). Second, using puppets in the English classes was found to be efficient for improving students' English listening and speaking skills. Third, appropriate materials should be selected and well thought-out plans should be made to be successful English class using puppetry. Perhaps the most interesting line of future research is to use qualitative research to examine the effect of this technique on the teacher variable. Further research is recommended, especially on using puppetry for speaking proficiency and creating affectively comfortable learning atmospheres.
Ensemble classification involves combining individually trained classifiers to yield more accurate prediction, compared with individual models. Ensemble techniques are very useful for improving the generalization ability of classifiers. The random subspace ensemble technique is a simple but effective method for constructing ensemble classifiers; it involves randomly drawing some of the features from each classifier in the ensemble. The instance selection technique involves selecting critical instances while deleting and removing irrelevant and noisy instances from the original dataset. The instance selection and random subspace methods are both well known in the field of data mining and have proven to be very effective in many applications. However, few studies have focused on integrating the instance selection and random subspace methods. Therefore, this study proposed a new hybrid ensemble model that integrates instance selection and random subspace techniques using genetic algorithms (GAs) to improve the performance of a random subspace ensemble model. GAs are used to select optimal (or near optimal) instances, which are used as input data for the random subspace ensemble model. The proposed model was applied to both Kaggle credit data and corporate credit data, and the results were compared with those of other models to investigate performance in terms of classification accuracy, levels of diversity, and average classification rates of base classifiers in the ensemble. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed model outperformed other models including the single model, the instance selection model, and the original random subspace ensemble model.
The purpose of this study is to verfify a more effecive techique for calculating geothermal gradient. this study examines 370 data of temperature-logging having been collected since 1985. The daya are divided into three different grades grades according to the type of temperature-depth plots: 204 data show typical linear gradient (Grade A); 126 data do not explicitily show the gradient becase of various external effects such as water flow (Grade B); and the rest 40 data do not show the gradient at all (Grade D). The new technique for calculating geothermal gradient is to be required to use Greade-B data more effctiviely. This new technique includes (1) calculating the independer depth of atmospheric temperature in the earth; (2) drawing a distribution map of subsurface tempurature by using the distribution map of subsurface temperature by using Grade-A data at the independent depth; and (3) recalculating geothermal gradient of Grade-B data by using the distrbution map of subsurface temperature, borehole depth, and bottom temperature of Grade-B data by using the distribution map of subsurface temperature, borehole depth, and bottom temperature of Grade-B data. As a result, 330 data-both Grade-A and Grade-B data--can be used to draw a distribution map of hot spradient. The map clearly distinguishes anomaly areas, and helps interpret their relations to the distribution of hot springs, geology, geological structures, and geophysical anomaly areas. These new results reveal that the average of geothermal in south Korea is 25.6$^{\circ}C$/km, when calculated to the Kriging method.
In this study, the effects of the various parameters of spinning and drawing processes on the properties of polyester full drawn yarn (FDY) prepared by steam processing during high-speed spinning were investigated using several techniques. The wet shrinkage ratio of the FDY was able to be manipulated by controlling the temperature and draw ratio. The FDY made using the steam high speed spinning technique exhibited identical properties (such as tenacity, elongation, and wet shrinkage ratio) to that of regular FDY, made using the spin-draw process. FDY prepared using the steam process during high-speed spinning showed excellent dyeability. The dye pick-up of the polyester yarn spun at high-speed spinning was found to be improved when dyed under an atmospheric pressure of $100^{\circ}C$. This result was the same as regular FDY dyed under a high pressure of $130^{\circ}C$.
Helmet Mounted Display(HMD) has great advantages on the navigation and mission symbologies for the pilot's forward looking display and, therefore, has been remarkably drawing attention as the up coming display of the next generation aircraft. The essential technology to process the Line of Sight-Foward(LOS-F) data in real-time is to estimate exact helmet situation and position. In this paper, we research a acoustic helmet tracking technique. For the reason that mechanical acoustic noises might interfere with Helmet Tracking System(HTS) and unnecessary acoustic noises are inevitable when using acoustic technique, this approach has not been adapted. In order to overcome this problem. We propose that acoustic wave of which the wave length is longer than audio frequency and, especially, we used beating signal envelope which is composed of two close high frequency.
In this paper, new Partial Discharge (PD) detection technique using Pockels cell was proposed and considerable apparent chaotic characteristics were discussed. For this purpose, PD was generated from needle-plane electrode in air and detected by optical measuring system using Pockels cell, based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer, consisting of He-Ne laser, single mode optical fiber, 50/50 beam splitter and photo detector. A qualitative analysis was carried out by drawing Return map for the normalized time series of the detected PD signals. The results are as follows:(a) Fixed points, between 0.7 and 1.0, are appeared clearly in the right upper area of the return map as the increase in the number of obtained data.(b) Considerable periodicity have been remarked even though exact period and length can not be determined.(c) The self-similarity can be also observed inasmuch as the late paths do not follow the previous ones. Accordingly, exact quantitative analysis such as embedding dimension, fractal dimension, and Lyapunov exponents should be carried out for deducing the quantitative properties regarding PD phenomena.
An approach to model a high-speed monohull vessel is introduced. The high-speed monohull form belonging to the category of multihull is drawing new attention, due to the rapidly growing trend of fast passenger ships and military purpose. Multihull forms are much thinner in their overall shape, compared to those of the conventional commercial vessels. Moreover, the parent hull forms are not readily obtainable when a new design is intended, which makes it hard to perform various technical calculations in terms of hull optimization, hydrodynamic computation, structural design, and so forth. In this paper, a parametric technique is used to design a high-speed hull form. To model a hull form, NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Spline) representation is used. The goal of research is to provide a fast and convenient tool to design an initial hull form with fewer parameters available in the early design stage. The technique employed in this paper will be applied to the design of multihull forms, such as catamaran, trimaran, and semi-swath.
