  • Nitric oxide (NO) is an important bioactive agent that mediates a wide variety of physiological and pathophysiological events. NO overproduction by inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) results in severe hypotension and inflammation. This investigation is part of a study to discover new iNOS inhibitors from medicinal plants using a macrophage cell culture system. Two sesquiterpenes (1 and 2) were isolated from Artemisia iwayomogi (Compositae) and were found to inhibit NO synthesis ($IC_{50} 3.64 \mu g/mL and 2.81 \mu$g/mL, respectively) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated RAW 264.7 cells. Their structures were identified as 3-Ο-methyl-iso-secotanapartholide (1) and iso-secotanapartholide (2). Compounds 1 and 2 inhibited the LPS-induced expression of the iNOS enzyme in the RAW 264.7 cells. The inhibition of NO production via the down regulation of iNOS expression may substantially modulate the inflammatory responses.

  • Quercus salicina has been widely used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases. In macrophages, nitric oxide (NO) is released as an inflammatory mediator and has been proposed to be an important modulator of many pathophysiological conditions in inflammation. In the present study, the inhibitory effect of methanolic extracts of Q. salicina (QSM) on NO production in LPS-stimulated mouse (C57BL/6) peritoneal macrophages was investigated. QSM suppressed NO production without notable cytotoxiciy. QSM also exhibited down-regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression via attenuation of NF-${\kappa}B$ translocation to nucleus in rIFN-${\gamma}$ and LPS stimulated mouse peritoneal macrophages. The present study strongly suggest that Q. salicina may be beneficial in diseases which related to macrophage-mediated inflammatory disorders.

  • For the noise reduction measures in a construction field or near the traffic line receiver is often the most economic measure in order to exclude the propagated sound. The dimension of the barrier is decided by the noise and construction design, and the constructive quality of a soundproof panel shall be secured in accordance with KS F4770 to guarantee the safety of sound barriers. In this paper the problems included in the KS F4770-1 that is the regulation for the metallic sound barrier of the absorption type are identified and it is suggested what to be corrected or improved. Through a series of the analyses, conclusions were reached that it is required to improve test methods in KS F4770-1 as well as to break down test loads for building more cost-effective sound barrier.

  • Nitric oxide is involved in various physiological processes. Among isoforms of nitric oxide synthase, iNOS is partly responsible for inflammation and septic shock. During our continual search for anti-inflammatory flavonoids, we have found that flavonoids, especially flavones, possessed the inihibitory activity of NO production by iNOS from LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cell. In this study, flavonoids from Scutellaria radix were investigated for their inhibitory activity of nitric oxide production. It was found that wogonin, among tested flavonoids including baicalein, oroxylin A, skullcapflavone II, showed the strongest inhibition of nitric oxide production (IC$\sub$50/ = 17 uM). And this inhibition was, at least partly, due to down-regulation of iNOS enzyme induction, not due to direct inhibition of iNOS enzyme activity.

  • We research into the exhaust system volume what proving the optimum exhaust performance and combustion characteristics. Many automobile manufactures have developed complex exhaust system for environment regulation and noise reduction. This complex exhaust system provides acoustics silencing and low frequency noise for customers demand. Recently, automobile exhaust system have made the Dual muffler concerning to the noise and vibration reduction. Also it bring the engine performance down by decreasing the back pressure and temperature in the exhaust system. The experiments are carried out different volume of exhaust system. In order to establish the optimized conditions design factors which are taking exhaust system volume, it show how the exhaust performance influence on the engine performance in idling.

  • Regulation of endoplasmic reticulum(ER) chaperone, ERp29, in traumatized rat spinal cord was investigated. Compared to the control, ERp29 expression was down-regulated at the lesion site 1 d after spinal cord injury. However, ERp29 expression gradually increased from 3 d after the injury and peaked remarkably after 7 d. Two ER chaperones (GRP94 and BiP) showed constantly strong expression levels 1 d after spinal cord injury while the expression levels of the other two (calnexin and PDI) were unchanged. In the case of ERp72, its expression level was increased 1 d after the injury and gradually decreased thereafter. This study suggests that ERp29 expression in the spinal cord after traumatic injury might be associated with the posttraumatic neural survival, playing a role as a molecular chaperone.

  • The performance of a small on-site wastewater treatment system consisting of an anaerobic septic tank and upgraded absorbent biofilter was investgted . The anaerobic septic tank was used as a pre-treatment of the absorbent Biofitler instead of the primary clarifier. The treatment capacity of the system was examined by changing the hydraulinc loadings to the Absorbent Biofilter as 2.5㎥/day , 4.5㎥/day, 6.0㎥/day, respective. The effluent from the septic tank was fed into the Absorbent Bilfilter. Based on the experimental results, the quality of treated wastewater satisfied the regulation and the BOD and SS was removed down to approximately 5mg/$\ell$ and 1mg/$\ell$, respectively.

  • Rapamycin, known as an inhibitor of Target of Rapamycin (TOR), is an immunosuppressant drug used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation. Despite the close association of the TOR signaling cascade with various scopes of metabolism, it has not yet been thoroughly investigated at the metabolome level. In our current study, we applied mass spectrometric analysis for profiling primary metabolism in order to capture the responsive dynamics of the Chlamydomonas metabolome to the inhibition of TOR by rapamycin. Accordingly, we identified the impact of the rapamycin treatment at the level of metabolomic phenotypes that were clearly distinguished by multivariate statistical analysis. Pathway analysis pinpointed that inactivation of the TCA cycle was accompanied by the inhibition of cellular growth. Relative to the constant suppression of the TCA cycle, most amino acids were significantly increased in a time-dependent manner by longer exposure to rapamycin treatment, after an initial down-regulation at the early stage of exposure. Finally, we explored the isolation of the responsive metabolic factors into the rapamycin treatment and the culture duration, respectively.
