  • The anemometer measurements were obtained from stationary hot-film probe mounted between the forward and rear rotors of a model CRP which rotated the forward and different directions. Data collection was done at several locations between rotors. To establish rotor-rotor interaction flow mechanism that contributes noise increasement of the CRP, methods of simple and the double condition-at sampling have been developed. The former uses to find similarity of the wake the later fixes the forward rotor position in time or space and permits averaging the mean wake at any fixed rotor angular location. The variation of the forward wake Is strongly depending upon the rear rotor location.

  • In this paper, an auto-diagnosis method of rotor bar fault for small induction motor is suggested. Usually FFT of stator currents are given the good results, but to detect the fault, slip is needed for calculating the feature frequency. The slip is varied as the load is changed. So in this paper, some alternative method for estimating the load is suggested. This method is based on the Park's vector pattern. The magnitudes of the feature frequency are compared with the threshhold that is predefined in the bounded range of load. The healthy rotor, single rotor bar fault and double rotor bar fault are tested with no load, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% rated load. From 50% to 100% rated load case, the rotor bar faults are detectable using indirect estimation of the load and the comparing the magnitudes of feature frequency. The no load case and under 40% rated load case, rotor fault are un detectable.

  • This paper is proposed artificial neural network(ANN) rotor resistance estimation of induction motor drive controlled by multi-adaptive fuzzy learning controller(AFLC). A simple double layer feedforward ANN trained by the back-propagation technique is employed in the rotor resistance identification. In this estimator, double models of the state variable estimations are used; one provides the actual induction motor output states and the other gives the ANN model output states. The total error between the desired and actual state variables is then back propagated to adjust the weights of the ANN model, so that the output of this model tracks the actual output. When the training is completed, the weights of the ANN correspond to the parameters in the actual motor. The estimation and control performance of ANN and multi-AFLC is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of this controller.

  • With the tendency toward high speed and high pressure in centrifugal pumps, the problem of sub-synchronous vibration has arisen, caused by the hydraulic forces of the working fluid, such as wearring, balance piston, impeller, etc.. These forces can drastically alter the rotor critical speeds and stability characteristics, and can be acted significant destabilizing forces. For preventing such self-excited vibration, the desing of the rotor system needs, which would secure the stability of the machine. In this paper, a procedure is presented for dynamic modeling of rotor-bearing-seal-impeller systems which consist of rigid disks, distributed parameter finite rotor elements and discrete bearings, seals and impellers. A finite element model including the effects of rotatory inertia and gyroscopic moments is developed using the consistent matrix approach. The technique of dynamic matrix reduction is applied to the shaft matrices to reduce them to a set of matrices of dynamic of significantly fewer degrees of freedom. The representation of bearing, seal and impeller elements is in term of linearized stiffness and damping matrices by reasonably small perturbations from equilibrium. The stability behavior of a typical double suction centrifugal pump is presented. Results show the influence of clearance and flow conditions on running speeds and stability characteristics.

  • A design process and an axisymmetric boundary integral equation method for precise structural analysis of the aircraft gas turbine rotor disk were developed. This axisymmetric boundary integral equation method for stress and steady-state thermal analysis was improved in solution accuracy by appling an implicit technique for Cauchy principal value evaluation, a subelement technique for weak singular integral evaluation and a double exponentical integral technoque for internal point solution near boundary surfaces. Stresses, temperatures, low cycle fatigue lifes and critical speeds for the turbine rotor disk of the thrust 1421 N class turbojet engine were analysed in a pratical calculation model problem.

  • Experimental study was conducted to reveal the instability such as leakage flow and rotating stall in an axial flow fan. For this study, unsteady total pressure probe and multi-hole pressure probe were specially designed for measuring the flow field upstream and downstream of rotor. The measured pressure signal was analyzed by Single and Double Phase Locked Averaging Technique. From the result of total pressure fields at inlet and outlet of the rotor, the useful information on the structure of the stall cell in radial direction was provided. Also, detailed flow measurements were carried out with a specially designed high frequency multi-hole pressure probe, providing some insight to the leakage flow and their interation.

  • This paper presents an eddy current loss analysis of a Mechanical Fixation (MF) made of 6061 aluminum alloy, which is used for an NS type double-rotor single-stator axial flux permanent magnet machine. The prototype MF made of aluminum alloy shows good mechanical performance, but poor electro-magnetic performance, since the machine's efficiency can decrease because of eddy current loss in the MF. In order to prevent efficiency decrease, a modification of the MF structure is also introduced. Three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) is used for magnetic field analysis, and eddy current losses are computed. The analysis results are compared to, and verified by the test results.

  • This paper deals with the optimum rotor design approach about the multi-layer design of the buried magnets in an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), on the efficiency improvement by using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). In the multi-layer design of the prototype 15kw IPMSM, the constant amount of buried PM is split from the single-layer into double-layer design for improving the efficiency characteristics. The optimum double-layer rotor structure is built with the help of RSM analysis. The improvement of IPMSM efficiency is verified by the Finite Element Method (FEM) results comparison with the prototype single-layer IPMSM.

  • The torque characteristic of an induction motor is affected greatly by the slot shape at which the conductors of the rotor are located. In this paper, the three analysis model; general type, deep slot type, double squirrel-cage type, of which the slot shapes are different, were analyzed by FEM at no load, at rated load, and at standstill respectively. The flux distribution and air-gap flux density were also obtained. From the above result, it was confirmed that the analysis models of deep slot and double squirrel-cage had more desirable characteristics than those of general squirrel-cage.

  • The design sensitivity analysis based on the finite element method is presented for the eddy current problem with a voltage source. Since, in this problem, the complex variable is used as the state variable, new approach to the sensitivity calculation for the complex variable system is required. Its result is applied to the design of the rotor slot shape of squirrel cage induction motor. As a analysis model, only one slot pitch of rotor is analyzed by using a Periodic boundary condition. The use of this minimal modelling method leads to much saving of calculation time. The design objective is to obtain the desired slip-torque characteristic. Because the shape of rotor slot has much influence on the slip torque characteristic, the design variables are taken on the interface shape between rotor core and rotor bar. The initial shape of rotor slot is the trapezoidal type with rounding corners. The obtained final shape is quite similar to the double squirrel cage type.
