  • In the previous study, we have developed an ultrasonic measurement system and analysis technique for borning rate testing of solid propellants using ultrasound. And then, using the developed system, burning rate of composite propellants were measured. So, in this study, we performed measurement of double base solid propellant, which has non-linear homing rate as pressure increasing, using the developed system in order to evaluate capability of ultrasonic method. Furthermore, accuracy of measured homing rates using ultrasound was verified by comparison to homing rate measured by the strand burner method.

  • We demonstrate a new double-layer structure for stretchable interconnects, where the top surface of a serpentine polyimide support is coated with a thin eutectic gallium-indium liquid metal layer. Because the liquid metal layer is constantly fixed on the solid serpentine body in this liquid-on-solid structure, the overall stretching is accomplished by widening the solid frame itself, with little variation in the total length and cross-sectional area of the current path. Therefore, we can achieve both invariant resistance and infinite fatigue life by combining the stretchable configuration of the underlying body with the freely deformable nature of the top liquid conductor. Further, we fabricated various types of double-layer interconnects as narrow as 10 ㎛ using the roll-painting and lift-off patterning technique based on conventional photolithography and quantitatively validated their beneficial properties. The new interconnecting structure is expected to be widely used in applications requiring high-performance and high-density stretchable circuits owing to its superior reliability and capability to be monolithically integrated with thin-film devices.

  • A solid rocket motor has quite complex physical condition such exothermal chemical reaction in subsonic area and supersonic ex pansion in a converging-diverging nozzle. To introduce a simulation tool for compressible flow in supersonic range as well as incompressible chemical reaction zone in a whole rocket nozzle is a essential demand. Since the flow vary subsonic to super sonic, the convergence in computation becomes very low and unstable in a whole domain of rocket motor. This paper reports the 2-D Axisymmetric and simple 3-D solid propellant combustion and flow of gases in rocket motor by using a precondi tioning, shear stress turbulence modeling, AUSM(p). To simulate the simplified combustion process, Double base solid propellant is used to calculate reaction of solid propellant.

  • In this paper, by using the Rayleigh-Sommer field theory and the cross-spectral density function, the analytical expression for the intensity distribution of a double half-Gaussian hollow beam in a turbulent atmosphere is obtained. The influence of the initial spot size of this beam on its propagation properties in a turbulent atmosphere is simulated, and the intensity distributions for such beams with different spot sizes are obtained. The results show that the initial spot size has an important influence on the propagation properties in the near field, while this influence in the far field is very weak.

  • The orientational and dynamic behavior of liquid crystal molecules on the alignment layer surfaces of liquid crystal display (LCD) devices is crucial to their performance, but there are only a few methods of experimentally elucidating the interactions between the liquid crystals and the alignment layers. • Particles in liquid-solid suspension flow might enhance or suppress the rate of heat transfer and turbulence depending on their size and concentration. The heat transfer characteristics of liquid-solid suspension in turbulent flow are not well understood due to the complexibility of interaction between solid particles and turbulence of the carrier fluid. In this study, the heat transfer coefficients of liquid-solid mixtures are investigated using a double pipe heat exchanger with suspension flows in the inner pipe. Experiments are carried out using spherical fly ash particles with mass median diameter ranging from 4 to $78{\mu}m$. The volume concentration of solids in the slurry ranged from 0 to 50% and Reynolds number ranged from 4,000 to 11,000. The heat transfer coefficient of liquid-solid suspension to water flow is found to increase with decreasing particle diameter. The heat transfer coefficient increases with particle volume concentration exhibiting the highest heat transfer enhancement at the 3% solid volume concentration and then gradually decreases. A correlation for heat transfer to liquid-solid flows in a horizontal pipe is presented.

  • In this paper, wave propagation of double-bonded Cooper-Naghdi micro sandwich cylindrical shells with porous core and carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) face sheets are investigated subjected to multi-physical loadings with temperature dependent material properties. The governing equations of motion are derived by Hamilton's principle. Then, the influences of various parameters such as wave number, CNT volume fraction, temperature change, Skempton coefficient, material length scale parameter, porosity coefficient on the phase velocity of double-bonded micro sandwich shell are taken into account. It is seen that by increasing of Skempton coefficient, the phase velocity decreases for higher wave number and the results become approximately the constant. Also, by increasing of the material length scale parameter, the cut of frequency increases, because the stiffness of micro structure increases. The obtained results for this article can be used to detect, locate and quantify crack.

  • In order to fabricate stable conductive polymer actuators which can be operated in air, conductivity and solidity of polymer electrolyte materials have been studied. It was found that Nafion+LiCl is appropriate material to be used for conductive polymer actuator. Using the Nafion+LiCl solid polymer electrolyte, single layer PPy actuators have been fabricated and their deflection was measured. Double layer PPy actuators make up for shortcoming of single layer PPy actuator and displacement and frequency response can be improved by fabrication of double layer PPy actuator. This kind of all-solid-polymer actuator can be used for practical applications.

  • A numerical scheme for solid propellant rocket has been studied using preconditioning method to research unsteady combustion processes for the double-base propellant with a converging-diverging nozzle. The Navier-Stokes equation is solved by dualtime stepping method with finite volume method. The turbulence model uses a shear stress transport modeling. The species equation follows up the method of Xinping WI, Mridul Kumar and Kenneth K. Kuo. A preconditioned algorithm is applied to solve incompressible regime inside the combustor and compressible flow at nozzle. Mass flux was evaluated using modified advective upwind splitting method. The simulated result the comparison a fully coupled implicit method and a semi implicit method in terms of accuracy and efficiency. This report shows the result of solid rocket propellant combustion.
