The culture of Korea shows political and religious discrimination by changed the era, but in the culture the inherent spirit of Koreans has been more specific at various angles to. But in the last several decades looking at the domestic furniture design field, the introduction of Western technology with high-tech, the mechanical plastics of modern Western European furniture, and imitations have been flooded. Owing to them our spirit were soon altered and made to face the current leads to confusion. Fortunately, in the latest national and international design fair the domestic furniture companies are breaking the ambiguous identity of the design in the meantime they keep studying and developing of our spirit and the demands of the times. Moreover, a new awareness and heightened interest on Korean traditional and stylish furniture are more elevated. At this moment, a study on the Connectivity of Aesthetic Consciousness Appearing in Korean Traditional Architecture and Furniture is required to overcome the today's confusion and to establish identity and the direction of the domestic furniture industry. Thus, this paper purposes to present the new direction for domestic furniture industry by researching and analyzing on the Korean traditional architecture and traditional furniture with the Korean spirit and a sense of beauty.

In order to identify the factors responsible for the recent drastic increase of imported apparel in Korea, an attempt was made to determine the variables influencing the purchasing behavior of imported and domestic apparel and forecast the purchasing intention with the use of Fishbein & Ajzen's behavioral intention model including both attitude and subjective norm. Based on literature review, the empirical study was conducted using the questionnaire for 900 college women and high school girls living in Seoul. Descriptive statistics, t-test, paired-t test, multiple regression analysis, and correlation analysis were made of 771 returned questionnaires using SAS program. The results were as follows : First, the results of assessing both their attitudes toward imported and domestic apparel and their subjective norms were shown to be different. Second, there was a difference in the attributes that had an effect on their attention to buy imported and domestic apparel. Third, those respondents having a preference for imported apparel were most highly influenced by color and price. While those respondents showing a preference for domestic apparel were most highly influenced by materials and comfortableness. Fourth, the validity of the prediction value of their buying intention was confirmed as it was shown to be more than coreelation coefficien r=0.65. In conclusion, 1) it was proved that both attitude and subjective norm were the important variables that could predict the consumer's purchasing intention, 2) since competitiveness in color and materials and brand influencing the consumer's purchase of and preference for domestic apparel relatively lagged behind in comparison with that of imported apparel, the domestic apparel business enterprise will have to make a greater effort to develop differentiated color, material and prestigious brand so as to enhance competitiveness with imported apparel.

The rapid increase in apartments of Korea brought about overall changes in the life style, and definitely played the biggest role to convert into western style. Since 1960, furniture has been changed for 50 years along with apartments, but furniture companies and the academic world had insufficient historical materials and lack of study. In addition, considering the changing trend according to residents' life style, the data of furniture industries should be collected to study every year or in 5 years at least. Therefore, this study aims to provide basic data that gives historical materials or design clues based on recent AV equipment-oriented storage furniture in the living room that prioritized design in public space. Accordingly, the study looked into the periodical trends of Korean furniture industries, analyzed 10 furniture companies in Korea which is actively doing business as the sample and arranged key points of periodical changes of furniture in the table, and suggested the conclusion according to the image map, style, color, material, and function.

Objective:To study the sources of indoor noise, its effects on human health, noise assessment and regulation through the use of standards, and techniques used to reduce noise. Background: Noise significantly affects the living environment, and there are an increasing number of reports of its impacts on human health. Method: We reviewed domestic and foreign data regarding environmental noise, and examined its effects and the standards used to regulate noise levels. Results: We describe the major sources of indoor noise and suggest possible legal standards, as well as recommended criteria for the control of noise. Conclusion: South Korea has higher legal standards of environmental noise than international standards in terms of threshold values. People in Korea are exposed to various sources of noise, and therefore the reduction of noise is urgently required. Application: Depending on the features of indoor spaces, an appropriate degree of indoor noise can be determined and techniques to reduce excess noise are required.

This study was conducted to compare the composition table of Korean food with that of foreign food. Analysis was made for Korean food composition table($5^{th}$ revision), Korean food composition table in Appendix of Recommended Dietary Allowances for Korean(6$^{th}$ th/ edition), Standard tables of food composition in Japan($5^{th}$ revised edition) and USDA Composition of Foods - Raw, Processed, Prepared. The method of content analysis was applied for this study and such differences were pointed out as the classification of food items, food items enlisted, the content unit of food and food components presented etc. To improve Korean food composition table, new food items and components should be added and old food items be eliminated based on the change of people's food consumption pattern. Also analysis for the domestic foods consumed by local people should be accomplished rather than borrowing foreign country's data.

The objective of this study was to increase the utilizability of domestic thinning and small diameter wood as applying in pattern design which can be used in interior decoration, wood craft and wood furniture, and in developing the designs of furniture and household items. We investigated the physical and mechanical characteristics of Betula platyphylla Wood by pressurization and heat treatment. Color change is clear, and the wood density is increased with increasing pressing rate. The compressive strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in bending strength are decreased as heating time is increased after pressing. However, shrinkage is improved after pressing and heating.

Indoor carbon monoxide (CO) concentration and personal CO exposures were measured Asan where CO poisoning from twenty coal usage briquette as a domestic fuel to cook and space heating. Twenty-five were houses selected from the Asan area for the survey conducted in February 1997. Newly developed passive CO samplers were placed in the kitchen and living room for the indoor concentration measurement and were worn by homemakers for personal exposure monitoring. The daily average of indoor CO concentration was 16ppm in the kitchen and 10ppm in the living room. The indoor concentration and personal exposures to CO were different in types of the space heating system. House ventilating methods and socioeconomic conditions were also important factors in determining the indoor and personal CO level in Asan.

The change of consumers' lifestyles causes frequent study on beds along with growth of economy, improvement of education and increase of dwelling in new towns and nuclear family. Beds are frequently developed in recent years since consumers' lifestyles increasingly change caused by transformation of types of dwelling, influence of western lifestyle, and increase uses of a bed. Also, this transformation causes needs for research on bed designs. A Bed is an essential item in a life since people spend one third of a day in Also, in contemporary, the ages of consumers are varied from infants to seniors. The study examines the importance of beds which playa major role in households. Moreover, the purpose of this study of beds focused on surface materials, colors, and designs is suggesting bases for future developments.

The sofa industry, which is now one of the major furniture industries in Korea, has developed since 1970s as the apartment building boom and the rise of living standards triggered its demand. Among others, durable and high-quality leather sofa had been most favored and excelled other sofas since mid-1980s along with the growth of national economy before IMF control tightened money market in late 1990s. Leather sofa is still favored and its industry has great possibilities to increase as people tend to seek higher and more personalized living conditions with the stabilization of economy. However, there are several problems in the sofa industry due to the current economic difficult conditions, i.e.; 1. It is hard to cut down the cost of raw material as the supply mostly depend on import. 2. It is hard to keep product quality due to technical difficulties. 3. There are still illegal duplicates of foreign or domestic competitors'design. The aim of this study is to examine the reality of the leather sofa industry in Korea and to suggest new vision for its progress.

Recently, Domestic construction industry is confronted with a new phase by increasement of stock and elation of the concern about environment. In particular, the focus on remodeling as an altanative of the reconstruction system that squanders resources and creates massive construction waste, has increased. However, current remodeling methods are being obstructed factor, because design has not considered the remodeling at the beginning of the construction. The purpose of this study is to search for the improvement of component joint for efficient remodeling. Field survey is conducted on the components grouped by spaces(living room/bed room/kitchen/bathroom) of unit living at 6 construction sites in Seoul & countries. As a result, total 228 component joints are selected and classified according to interface condition and problem pattern.
