  • Magnetic properties of transition metal doped $La_{0.5}Ca_{0.5}(Mn_{0.98}TM_{0.02})O_3$(TM=Cr and Ti) are studied. The samples are synthesized by the conventional solid-state method. Using vibrating sample magnetometer magnetization-temperature measurement were carried out with zero field cooling and field cooling at 50 Oe. Cr-doped sample shows cluster or spin glass like behavior while Ti doped does not. Curie temperature obtained were decreased from that of LCMO(245.5 K). Curie temperatures of Cr-doped and Ti-doped samples are 235.5 K and 232.7 K, respectively. The temperature-dependent coercivity $H_c(T)$ was also measured. The coercive force continuously decreases with the substitution of Cr and Ti, The result can be understood in terms of the interaction between defect and domain wall.

  • In compacting the melt-spun $Nd_{14}Fe_{76}Co_{4}B_{6}$ and $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{15}B_{7}$ magnetic powders. the difference in composition induces a different behavior of closed packing rate as a function of aspect ratio of the powders. The $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{1.5}B_{7}$ alloy having a low Co/Fe ratio (low density) shows the better green density to have an enhanced closed packing rate. An empirical power equation relating the green density with the compacting pressure was obtained such as ${\phi}(g/cm^{2})=5.2~5.6{\times}P^{0.045~0.065}(ton/cm^{2})$. The $Nd_{14}Fe_{76}Co_{4}B_{6}$ alloy having a high Nd/Fe ratio possesses much finer grain size(50~60 nm) than that of $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{1.5}B_{7}$ alloy and shows the higher coercivity($iH_{c}=14~15kOe$). The higher Nd/Fe ratio in the melt-spun Nd-Fe-Co-B alloy, where the domain wall pinning mechanism was found to be predominant, assists the formation of Nd-rich grain boundary phase acting as a pinning site. The grain boundary ranges over $12~16\;{\AA}$ thick in the Nd-Fe-Co-B alloy while it ranges over $8~12\;{\AA}$ thick in the Nd-Fe-Co-Zr-B alloy.

  • Recently, spintronic devices with submicron structures are widely investigated to take advantage of their unique micromagnetic properties. In this work, we study the temperature dependence of exchange bias in bilayer anti-dot arrays made by depositing Co (40 nm)/Ni (5 nm) ferromagnetic bilayer on Si substrate to form anti-dot arrays with a diameter $1{\mu}m$. The anti-dot patterning was done only for the upper Co layer, while the Ni underlayer was kept unperforated. The temperature dependences of magnetoresistance (MR) and exchange bias were studied along magnetic easy and hard axes. The in-plane MR measurements were performed using a physical-property measurement system (PPMS ; Quantum Design Inc.) at various temperatures. The standard in-line four-point probe configuration was used for the electrical contacts. As temperature was varied, the MR data were obtained in which in-plane field (H=3 kOe) was applied in the directions along the hard and the easy axes with respect to the lattice plane. The temperature dependences of magnetic anisotropy and exchange bias were also studied along the magnetic easy and hard axes. As temperature decreases, the single peak splits into two peaks. While no exchange bias was observed along the magnetic easy axis, the exchange bias field steadily increased with decreasing temperature along the magnetic hard axis. These results were interpreted in connection with the magnetic anisotropy and the effect of the anti-dots in pinning domain wall motion along the respective direction.

  • The effects of the substrate temperature and the Pd underlayer on the structure and the magnetic properties of Pd/Co multilayer films prepared by the thermal evaporation were studied. As the substrate temperature increases up to $150^{\circ}C$, the crystallinity of sublayers, (111) texture and the interface sharpness of Pd/Co multilayers were improved due to the enhanced mobility of adatoms. As results of that, the perpendicular and surface anisotropy energies were increased but the coercivity was decreased because the pinning sites of domain wall decreased due to the grain growth. The grain size of the multilayers increased with Pd underlyer thickness. Thermal degradation was enhanced at above $200^{\circ}C$ due to interdiffusion at the Pd/Co interface. The intensity of the main diffraction peak rapidly decayed in the initial stage of aging and then decreased slowly. The rapid change of the intensity in the initial stage was speculated to be due to the structural relaxation phenomena and the later stage change was due to the interdiffusion. The activation energy for the interdiffusion in Pd4/Co1 multilayers was 14.9 KCal/mole.K.

  • In this study, the influences of magnetization reversal and magnetic interaction on the coercivity of Sr-ferrite particles with different sizes were investigated through various magnetic measurements. The shape of the initial magnetization curve and the magnetic field dependence of the coercive force indicate that the magnetization reversal changes from domain nucleation to wall pinning as the particle size decreases. On the other hand, the Henkel plot, interaction field factor and ${\Delta}M(H)$ obtained from the DCD and IRM curves show that the strength of the dipolar interaction is increased with increasing the particle size. Therefore, it can be concluded that coercivity is closely related to magnetic interaction as well as magnetization reversal mechanism.
