A successful oil well drilling depends largely on a good mud Program. During drilling, mud provides sufficient hydrostatic pressure, removes drill cuttings and cools drill bits. Mud additives are always required to provide sufficient hydrostatic pressure to ensure borehole stability. Barium Sulphate ($BaSO_4$) also known as barite is the prevalent weighting material but there is needed to develop local materials to augment the use of Barite. The present search is concerned on the early Carboniferous succession exposed in Um Bogma Formation, west central Sinai, Egypt as a new weighting agent in drilling fluids. The increases in the cost of drilling fluids and a shortage of using barite have introduced the locale dolomite as alternative weighting materials. The rheological properties of mud drilling samples weighted by local dolomite samples are being examined and investigated to know its potential to be used as a weighting material in drilling mud. Two mud samples were prepared which comprised of fresh water, caustic soda, bentonite and the weighting material. The weighting materials are added to achieve the required density. The first sample: Water-based mud with commercial barite of density between 10.00 lb/gm and 18.00 lb/gm. The second sample: Water-based mud with dolomite of density between 10.00 lb/gm and 18.00 lb/gm. These samples were analyzed and the density, rheological properties, aging of barite and dolomite and solid contents were investigated. At 10.00 lb/gm, the yield point of dolomite was $20.00lb/100ft^2$ and barite $22.00lb/100ft^2$ while the 10 second gel strength of dolomite was $30.00lb/100ft^2$ and $22.00lb/100ft^2$ for barite. Similarly, little difference was observed in plastic and apparent viscosities. At 10.00 lb/gm, the plastic and apparent viscosities of dolomite were 8.00 cp and 20.00 cp while barite was 8.00 cp and 24.00 cp. The result show that dolomite mud sample gave a little higher yield point and gel strength than barite mud sample. Therefore, dolomite has the potential to be used as weighting material in drilling mud in place of barite thereby enhancing the local content initiative of the government. When dolomite is sourced locally and used it will reduce overall mud and drilling costs.
The lead-zinc-silver-iron deposits from the Janggun mine are of hydrothermal-metasomatic origin, characterized by the marked hydrothermal alteration of the wallrocks, such as hydrothermal manganese enrichment of carbonate rocks, silicification, chloritization, sericitization, montmorillonitization and argillic alteration. The ore deposits have been emplaced within the Janggun Limestone of Cambro-Ordovician age at the immediate contacts with apophyses injected from the Chunyang Granite plutons of Late Jurrasic age. They have been structurally controlled by fractures in the carbonate rocks and the irregular intrusive contacts of granitic rocks, and are closely associated with hypogene manganese carbonate deposits. In the mine nine seperate orebodies are being mined. On the basis of the petrological study, hydrothermal alteration zone of this mine may be divided into the following four zones from wallrock to orebody. (I) Primary calcite and dolomite zone${\rightarrow}$(II) dolomitic limestone zone${\rightarrow}$(III) dolomitic zone${\rightarrow}$(IV) rhodochrosite zone${\rightarrow}$ orebody. There was not recongnized Mn and Fe elements in the primary calcite and dolomite zone. But, in the dolomitic limestone and dolomite zone, calcite and dolomite were subjected to weak hydrothermal manganese enrichment and the grade of the manganese enrichment increase oreward. By means of electron probe microanalysis, it was found that manganoan dolomite occured between primary dolomite grains, cross the cleavage of the primary dolomite and around the dolomite grains. Above these result supports that the Janggun manganese carbonate deposits are of hydrothermal metasomatic origin.
In this study, conventional biofilters packed with flexible synthetic polyurethane (PU) foam carriers were operated to remove toluene from a contaminated air stream. PU foams containing various adsorbents (e.g., zeolite, sepiolite, dolomite and barite) were synthesized for the biofilter media and their adsorption characteristics of toluene were determined. Adsorption capacity of PU-adsorbent foam was in the order of PU-dolomite ${\approx}$ PU-zeolite > PU-sepiolite > PU-barite. During the biofiltration experiment, influent toluene concentration was in the range of 0-160 ppm and EBRT (i.e., empty bed residence time) was 45 seconds. Pressure drop of the biofilter bed was 4-5 mm $H_2O/m$ column height. The maximum removal capacity was in the order of PU-dolomite > PU-zeolite > PU-sepiolite > PU-barite, while the complete removal capacity was in the order of PU-dolomite > PU-sepiolite > PU-zeolite > PU-barite. The better biofiltration performance in PU-dolomite foam was because PU-dolomite foam had lower density and higher porosity than the others providing favorable conditions for microbial growth. The results of biodegradation kinetic analysis showed that PU-dolomite foam had higher maximum removal rate ($V_m\;=\;11.04\;g$ toluene/kg dry material/day) and saturation constant ($K_s\;=\;26.57\;ppm$) than the other PU foams. This supports that PU-dolomite foam was better than the others for biofilteration of toluene.

In this paper, we have developed a simple, new and economical carbonation method to synthesize a pure form of aragonite needles using dolomite raw materials. The obtained aragonite Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) was characterized by XRD and SEM, for the measurement of morphology, particle size, and aspect ratio (ratio of length to diameter of the particles). The synthesis of aragonite PCC involves two steps. At first, after calcinated dolomite fine powder was dissolved in water for hydration, the hydrated solution was mixed with aqueous solution of magnesium chloride at $80^{\circ}C$, and then $CO_2$ was bubbled into the suspension for 3 h to produce aragonite PCC. Finally, aragonite type precipitated calcium carbonate can be synthesized from natural dolomite via a simple carbonation process, yielding product with average particle size of $30-40{\mu}m$.

This study was carried out to investigate the heat storage/release characteristics of the thermochemical reaction of the calcined dolomite with the packed bed shape experimental apparatus for development of chemical heat pump system. In the present study, it was found that MgO of the calcined dolomite was not hydrated during the hydration process under the experimental conditions. Therefore, the MgO of the calcined dolomite can be regard as an inert material. As a result, it was found that all of CaO packed kept the reaction temperature of about $510^{\circ}C$ through the entire part of the bed. The dehydration reaction was incurred first at the wall side area as the supplied heat was transferred through the wall side into the packed bed. As a result of the temperature and concentration spread, the reaction was completed at the wall side progressed into the center.
The reaction of hydration proceeded at the same time the vapor was introduced into the reactor that was filled with calcined dolomite. It has shown that the temperature has begun to fall from the bottom of reactor after increase of temperature by the heat of hydration reaction. The reaction initiated at the pipe wall and the heat was transfer to the center of block between the fins. The results show that the use of copper fin in the reactor reducted the hydration reaction time by half when compared to the case without using the fins.

This study was conducted as part of research and development of high-strength grout. Accordingly, dolomite aggregate was used as a filler incorporated into the high-strength grout. Dolomite aggregate has a disadvantage of increasing the viscosity of the grout due to higher generation of fine powder than other aggregates. Accordingly, in this experiment, it was confirmed that the viscosity, flow time, and flow of high-strength grout change according to the volume composition ratio of dolomite aggregate and cement-based material. All experiments were conducted based on the Korean Industrial Standard KS F 4044, and the mixing factor was applied according to the composition ratio of the binder and the filler. In the experiment, the amount of fine powder contained in the dolomite aggregate rather than the silica sand used in the past is grasped, and after mixing with the grout accordingly, the mixture is proceeded to measure the viscosity in an unhardened state. In addition, the flow and flow time of the grout are evaluated according to the viscosity. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the viscosity and flow time decreased and the flow increased as the volume composition ratio of the dolomite aggregate to the cement-based material increased.
Mg crowns were manufactured using domestic dolomite (Ca·Mg(CO3)2) (20~30 mm). In order to manufacture the calcined dolomite (CaO·MgO), (a) electric furnace (950 ℃, 480 min) and (b) microwave furnace (950 ℃, 60 min) processes were used. As a result of XRD analysis, it was analyzed as (a) CaO 56.9 wt%, MgO 43.1 wt% by electric furnace process and (b) CaO 55 wt%, MgO 45 wt% by microwave furnace process. Even when the decarbonation reaction time of dolomite was shortened by 1/8 in microwave furnace process compare with electric furnace process, the calcined dolomite could be produced. The hydration reaction (ASTM C 110) is a standard for the hydration reactivity of calcined dolomite, and the calcined dolomite produced by electric furnace process showed a high hydration reactivity (max temp 79.8 ℃/1.5 minutes). Such hydration reactivity was occurred by only CaO hydration reaction and that was confirmed by XRD analysis. The calcined dolomite produced by microwave furnace process showed low hydration reactivity (max temp 81.7 ℃/19.5 minutes). Such low hydration reactivity was occurred by CaO and MgO hydration reaction due to the hydration reaction of CaO thereafter occurring of the hydration reaction of MgO, and that was confirmed by XRD analysis. The prepared Mg crown were 58.8 g and 74.6 g by electric furnace and microwave furnace processes, respectively, under the reaction conditions of 1,230 ℃, 60 min, 5 × 10-2 torr by silicothermic reduction.
This research was conducted to determine the plant growth and nutrient contents of potted chrysanthemum 'Lima Honey' as influenced by application rate of dolomite in three root media, peatmoss+vermiculite (1:1, v/v), peatmoss+composted rice hall (1:1, v/v), and peatmoss+composted pine bark (1:1, v/v). All root media contained polyacrylic acid sodium salt (PASS) at a rate of $4.5g L^{-1}$. In crop growth at 40 and 80 days after transplanting, elevated application rates of dolomite up to $6.0g L^{-1}$ in three root media increased fresh and dry weights per plant. But the treatment of $9.0g L^{-1}$ had less fresh and dry weights than those of $6.0g L^{-1}$. Tissue phosphorus content decreased and those of Ca and Mg increased by the elevated application rates of dolomite. Elevated application rates of dolomite in three root media resulted in the increase of pH, EC, and the concentrations of K, Ca, and Mg at 43 days after transplanting. Those at 80 days after transplanting were also increased, but the differences among treatments were less significant as compared to those at 43 days after transplanting. From the results of dry weight in potted chrysanthemum 'Lima Honey', the proper application rate of dolomite to three root media containing PASS at a rate of $4.5g L^{-1}$ were $6.0g L^{-1}$.

The use of aluminum-based coagulants in water pretreatment is being carefully considered because aluminum exposure is a risk factor for the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Lightly burned-dolomite kiln dust (LB-DKD) was evaluated as an alternative coagulant because it contains high levels of the healthful minerals calcium and magnesium. An organic pore forming agent (OPFA) was incorporated to prepare porous granules after OPFA removal through a thermal decomposition process. A spray drying method was used to produce uniform and reproducible spherical granules with low density, since fine dolomite particles have irregular agglomeration behavior in the hydration reaction. The use of fine dolomite powder and different porosity granules led to a visible color change in raw algae (RA) containing water, from dark green to transparent colorlessness. Also, dolomite powders and granules exhibited a mean removal efficiency of 48.3% in total nitrogen (T-N), a gradual increase in the removal efficiency of total phosphorus (T-P) as granule porosity increased. We demonstrate that porous dolomite granules can improve the settling time and water quality in summer seasons for the emergent treatment of excessive algal blooms in eutrophic water.
