Estimating the Tax Revenue Function of the Personal Incomes (개인소득세수함수(個人所得稅收函數) 추정(推定))

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate the revenue function of the personal income tax of Korea. Unlike the traditional approach employing the data adjustment, this paper explicitly includes the explanatory variables of the tax rate or schedule in the revenue function and further estimates the functions by income sources such as labor, interest, global, and dividend incomes. One of the main findings is the GNP elasticity of the combined personal income tax is around 1.2 when evaluated on the basis of the estimates of the GNP elasticities of tax revenue from respective income sources, which is somewhat smaller than those in the previous studies. Another interesting result is that the GNP and interest rate elasticities of the interest income, are found around one and .15 respectively, as expected. Also, the estimate of the tax-free income coefficient is significantly negative in the labor income tax revenue function.

An estimation of implied volatility for KOSPI200 option (KOSPI200 옵션의 내재변동성 추정)

  • Using the assumption that the price of a stock follows a geometric Brownian motion with constant volatility, Black and Scholes (BS) derived a formula that gives the price of a European call option on the stock as a function of the stock price, the strike price, the time to maturity, the risk-free interest rate, the dividend rate paid by the stock, and the volatility of the stock's return. However, implied volatilities of BS method tend to depend on the stock prices and the time to maturity in practice. To address this shortcoming, we estimate the implied volatility function as a function of the strike priceand the time to maturity for data consisting of the daily prices for KOSPI200 call options from January 2007 to May 2009 using support vector regression (SVR), the multiple additive regression trees (MART) algorithm, and ordinary least squaress (OLS) regression. In conclusion, use of MART or SVR in the BS pricing model reduced both RMSE and MAE, compared to the OLS-based BS pricing model.

What explains firm valuation? Evidence from the Chinese manufacturing sector (중국 제조업 상장기업의 가치평가 설명요인에 관한 연구)

  • The price-to-earnings ratio (PER) is an important indicator to measure the stock price and profitability of a firm; it is also the most used valuation indicator among investors. When using the PER to compare the investment values of different stocks, these stocks must come from the same sector. This study mainly focuses on the China's listed manufacturing firms. By learning from previous research results and analyzing the current situation, we studied the correlation between the manufacturing sector's PER and its influencing factors from both macro and micro perspectives, the combination of which eventually sheds light on such correlation. Analyzing GDP growth rate data, Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, and other macroeconomic variables from 2008 to 2018, we conclude that these variables jointly have a certain impact on the average PER of the manufacturing sector. We then form panel data based on relevant (2014-2018) data gathered from 317 of China's A-listed manufacturing firms to study the impact of micro-variables on PER. By using Stata and other software to analyze the panel data, we reach the conclusion that the Debt to Asset Ratio, Return on Equity, EPS growth rate, Operating Profit Ratio, Dividend Payout Ratio, and firm size have a significant impact on PER. The Current Ratio, Treasury Stock ratio and Ownership Concentration have no distinct effect on PER. Based on our empirical findings, we design a theoretical model that affects the PER.

The Impact of Employee's Attributes on Corporate Pension Insurance Products Preference (기업연금보험상품 선호도에 대한 종업원 속성의 영향)

  • Purpose - The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of employee characteristics on employees' preference towards corporate pension products. This study can provide a guidance for maximization of benefits for employees and their affiliated corporation. Employee characteristics include average length of labour, wage system of annual salary, age, types of interest rates and size of corporation. Existing research generally concentrate on vitalizations of corporate pension product raising an imperfection, improvements, tax benefit analysis and legal consideration. Thus, this study intensively analyses the effect of employee attributes on firms' decision for corporate pension products, such as DB(defined benefit) and DC(defined contribution) type. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected using self-administrated questionnaire survey on corporate pension products from CEOs or HR directors 250 foreign-invested companies', purchasing pension plans in practice with domestic financial trustees (insurance companies, banks and security companies). Hypotheses testing was conducted using Logistic Regression analysis with SPSS/PC+ 21.0. Results - The findings of the study are as follows. Employees with the long length of labour are more likely to have DB plan; more likely to prefer DC plan with the dividend distribution product regarding the types of interest rate. SMEs(less than 100 employees) are more likely to select DC plan whereas high fluctuation in wage with annual salary has no impacts. In addition, the ages has no significant effect on the preference. Conclusions - This study has examined with the empirical testing that employees' variable attributes and qualities are one of the vital factors for corporation pension plan selection. Currently, majority employees are highly likely to join DB plan and Defined interest types. Corporation with less than 10 employees prefer IRP scheme while most of corporation are intended to join DC plan. In a very near future, corporation more than 300 employees will be required to purchase mandatory plan under national regulation. For maximization of employees' contentment to corporation pension insurance and for complementing the flaws of existing plans, the future studies shall also research in a perspective of employee benefit.

A Study on the Enterprise Value Analysis using AHP and Logit Regressions (AHP와 로짓회귀분석을 활용한 기업가치 분석방법)

  • The dissertation presents the portfolio construction method using the score sheet so that general investors can utilize it easily. This study draws the significant variables to contribute the enterprise value and suggests the combined models by applying the single methodology, which private investors can easily utilize. The results of the research can be classified into 2 areas. Firstly, the significantly affecting variables were selected for analyzing the enterprise value. The variables and the method for the enterprise value analysis were studied from the existing researches to choose the optimal variables. The variables were identified by using AHP method and the structure equation method from the investigation of the previous researches. And the critical variables were added extracted from the common denominator of variables which the 3 grue investors used for their investment. The final variables identified are dividend yield, PER, PBR, PCR, EV/EBITDA, ROE, net income, sales growth rate, net current asset, debt ratio, current ratio, rate of operating profits, ratio of operating profit to net sales, ratio of net income to net sales, net profit to total assets, EPS growth rate, inventory turnover ratio, and receivables turnover. Second, the new methodologies for forecasting enterprise value modifying the existing methods were developed. The result of the Logistic regression analysis for forecasting showed that the equation could not be suitable as the accuracy with 91.98%.
